Mom missing after video shows her leaving for son’s football game nearly 2 weeks ago

A security video shows the last images of a 39-year-old mom from Palms with her dog named “Seven” on her way to her son’s football game nearly two weeks ago.

Heidi Planck is seen leaving her house — with the dog following behind her — and she jumps into her silver Range Rover and drives away.

Her ex-husband says Planck left their son’s football game at halftime.

He says she seemed distracted.

In a bizarre turn just three hours later, in downtown Los Angeles, her dog was found on the 28th floor of an apartment building.

Planck, her silver Range Rover, her purse, her personal phone, and her computer were all missing.

Planck’s friends say the apartment building management has refused to allow them to look in the parking garage to see if possibly her SUV is parked there.

They also say apartment management won’t share building security tape with the police unless they get a warrant.

Planck’s friends and family suspect foul play.

“It seems to us that everything stems from that building where her dog was found,” a friend said.

“I think something has to have happened to her, to keep her away from her son,” said Danielle Nadolny, another friend.

Planck was last seen wearing jeans and a gray sweater driving a 2017 gray Range Rover with a black-and-yellow California license plate of U840X0.

Chiquita Canyon Landfill, owned by Waste Connections, is one of the largest landfills in California and provides almost 25 percent of the solid waste disposal needs of Los Angeles County. The 639-acre landfill has been in operation for almost 50 years. L.A. County issued a new CUP for the landfill in July 2017, containing more than 130 conditions governing the landfill and imposing fees. Chiquita filed a lawsuit in October 2017 challenging 29 of the CUP conditions, including 13 operational conditions, such as limits on the amounts and types of solids waste the landfill can receive and requirements for the landfill to support the county’s legislative agenda on solid waste.

The above is from here: Ruling Allows Chiquita Landfill to Pursue Lawsuit Against County

I don't care about the politics, I just thought it odd they were searching a landfill/garbage site so far from where she was last seen. The place has been in operation for decades and as it says it is one of the largest landfills in CA and covers 25 percent of solid waste of LA County. So not so odd necessarily.

Don't have time to delve in right now but on the other hand, this is interesting in I guess one can dispose of just about anything for a fee... Consumer or commercial... Link follows.

However what makes most sense is they are searching here for a reason and that may be that she was never seen leaving this building or an apartment or wherever they found forensic evidence and that is where their refuse, dumpster, apartment refuse ends up or something on that order...

Search to Resume for Missing West LA Mother Presumed Dead

The excavation of part of a landfill in Castaic in search of the remains of a woman who disappeared two months ago from downtown LA was expected to resume next week, following delays caused by heavy rains and other logistics issues.

Several law enforcement sources told NBC4's I-Team that nothing significant had been found to date, and relayed that some investigators -- who've spent day after day raking through tons of trash and debris -- were growing worried they'd missed an important clue.

The search effort was paused when heavy rains moved through Southern California in late December.

6 months later, search continues for missing mom Heidi Planck

Six months after her disappearance, Mid-City mom Heidi Planck has not been found, and her friends are continuing the search and encouraging people to perform acts of kindness as a tribute.

Regardless of the reasons behind the disappearance, Planck is still missing, and her friends are encouraging Angelenos to be kind on Sunday, April 17, in honor of Planck.

“That’s the spirit of Heidi we want to propagate and be out there,” a friend said. “We are asking people to go out there and show us the random acts of kindness that you see in your everyday life.”

It's the do-si-do of divorced parents everywhere: dropping off your child at your ex’s for the weekend, picking them up from sports practice or ballet class a few days later.

It's all part of the well-choreographed dance that keeps a family humming and children secure in knowing exactly when they'll next see Mom or Dad.

On the cool, clear afternoon of Wednesday, October 20th, 2021 it was Heidi Planck’s turn for pickup.

The 38-year-old mom who worked in finance was scheduled to collect her 10-year-old son, Bond, from his private school in Los Angeles.

Except that as the time for pickup approached, Heidi's ex-husband, Jim Wayne, felt something was off.

One year later, disappearance of Heidi Planck still weighs heavily on loved ones

Family and friends say they’ll never stop searching for a Los Angeles mother who mysteriously disappeared one year ago Monday.

“I’m struggling with an 11-year-old boy that wants to know what happened to his mom,” said Jim Wayne, Planck’s ex-husband.

The father of their son says it’s been hard on him not knowing what happened.

“It’s gotta be tough on his mind. He wants to know everyday. He’s got questions,” Wayne said.

Heidi’s friends had four billboards put up near the Hope + Flower building, in hopes of keeping her disappearance in the public consciousness.

One of those friends told KTLA that Planck was one of the “most loving, giving people” they had ever known.

Her loved ones continue to wonder just how long the people who know what happened can keep it a secret.

“I have to wonder if it’s eating them up inside,” the friend said.

He says he talks to police often and they assure him they are actively working this case. He hopes that awareness will keep Planck’s memory alive and one day bring closure to her loved ones.

Does this fairly young woman not have a family? I get her son would be heir and I even get that she may not have had a will but the son is a minor and this is her EX-husband filing with the son in the estate. Why isn't the family stepping up to do so on his behalf or argue such?

I'm not saying the dad did it but I sure have seen no evidence of anyone who did or didn't. And the dad has pointed the finger and more from the start towards the boss. He was actually the last to see her if one consider the boss or the ex.

All I know is if my kids were minors and something happened to me I sure wouldn't want my ex controlling the kids' inheritance, my property, etc.

Nine years of Dateline's Missing in America: 188 still missing

Dateline NBC's social and digital series 'Missing in America' began nine years ago today, on December 5, 2013. We asked our Facebook community a simple question the night before. "Do you know anyone who has simply vanished?"

The response was overwhelming. Since that first post, every week we have tried to feature the story of a different missing person brought to our attention by a member of our social communities. And this year, we created a new podcast series called ‘Dateline: Missing in America,’ which highlighted six cases of the cases featured in our digital series. You can learn more about the cases featured in Season 1 and listen here.

Read and share their stories. Someone, somewhere, saw something.

Heidi Planck
California mother Heidi Planck, 39, was last seen leaving her 10-year-old son’s football game in Downey, California on October 17, 2021. She was first reported missing on October 20 after she failed to pick her son up from school. Hours after Heidi was last seen, her dog was found on the 28th floor of an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles. Police have said their investigation led them to the Chiquita Canyon Landfill, about 40 miles northwest of the downtown location where Heidi was last seen. “Forensic evidence was located inside the building which has led detectives to believe an incident occurred resulting in Planck’s death,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in an online statement. On November 29, 2021, police began searching the landfill for evidence connected to Heidi’s disappearance. Police said in the same statement that they were looking in "a specific area" of the landfill for human remains. Police have asked for tips from anyone who was at the residential building at 1201 S. Hope St., listed online as the Level Downtown Flower building, on or around October 17. In July 2022, Dateline featured Heidi’s case in season one of the new podcast series “Dateline: Missing in America.” Among others, Josh Mankiewicz spoke with KNBC reporter Eric Leonard who has been covering the case in Los Angeles. "By combining the videos that captured who goes in and out, the access controls that record date, time, doorways of who goes in and who goes out,” he said, “they were able to narrow down who could have been involved and began to focus the investigation on them.” Leonard also told Dateline that "there was a pretty clear understanding amongst the investigators that she had attended a party or get-together and went into distress -- had some kind of medical episode.” He added that “Police were able to confirm that she -- after she died -- was likely put into an upper floor trash chute and her body fell into a giant industrial-sized dumpster and trash compactor in the ground floor of the building.” Heidi's remains have not been located. Anyone with information on Heidi’s case is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department, Missing Persons Unit, at (213) 996-1800 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.

The life insurance policy was in her son's name. Heidis ex has control of her estate. They needed a death certificate to gain control of the life insurance until be turns 18. The court awarded the petition. Heidi is now legally pronounced dead. This is so sad and confusing at the same time

It is very confusing! The policy had her minor son's name on it without an executor, I assume. I sure hope the ex is on the up and up.

Missing mom Heidi Planck has been officially pronounced dead two years after she mysteriously vanished, following claims by a witness that she OD'd on fentanyl at a wild strippers and crypto gambling party.

A judge ruled that the mom-of-one tragically died at 9pm on the night she disappeared on October 17, 2021, concluding a case that had baffled investigators and the public for years.

Planck, 39, had been last seen attending her then 10-year-old son's flag football game, leading to years of speculation amid revelations of a history of drug abuse, psychotic breakdowns, and bizarre behavior.

<snip>
Within weeks of her death, authorities said they found evidence at the apartment building that led them to believe she was dead.

Rumors over her final moments have swirled in the years since, with a witness claiming in the months following her disappearance that she died while attending a party at the apartment complex.

They alleged she collapsed and fell unconscious after taking fentanyl-laced Adderall, leading panicked revelers to dump her body due to numerous illegal activities going on around her.

Two years after Heidi Planck, a West Los Angeles woman and mother mysteriously disappeared, family members are still desperately searching for answers, setting up a series of billboards in hopes that the search will be revitalized.

The billboards, three of which can be seen dotting roads in West LA, read "Missing Mom" and "#FindHeidiPlanck," with images of the missing mother.

Though family members have come to terms with the fact that Planck is likely dead, after going missing back on Oct. 17, 2021 when she failed to pick her son upon school, they're still hopeful that information can come to light and help them understand what happened.

"Nobody wants to talk about it," said Jim Wayne, Planck's ex-husband. "And yet, everybody's thinking about it."

Wayne was the one who reported Planck missing, after their son was left at school without a ride, something she had never done before.

2 years after disappearance of West LA mom, friends still seeking answers

Tuesday marks two years since a West Los Angeles woman disappeared shortly after being seen walking her dog downtown.

Friends of Heidi Planck marked the day by canvassing the area of the downtown Los Angeles building where she was last seen, and setting up a small memorial in hopes that a new clue will emerge.

"It's very mysterious the way she disappeared in this building - being that it's so secure, there's so many levels of security and cameras," said Danielle Nadolny, a friend of Planck's.

LAPD investigators say forensic evidence found in the apartment building leads them to believe an incident happened there. They were led to search for her body in the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic about a month after she disappeared, but were unsuccessful in locating anything.

"LAPD is confident there are four or five people that know exactly what happened to her and we're just begging them to come forward," said one of Planck's friends who didn't want her name used.

"We know that people may be scared to come forward. You can submit your tips anonymously through our site. I don't know what else to do except beg and plead and do this every year until we have answers."
