Dylan Redwine disappeared seven years ago Tuesday in La Plata County, an event that prompted a yearslong investigation that led to the arrest of the boy’s father on suspicion of murder.

Dylan’s disappearance Nov. 19, 2012, and subsequent homicide investigation sparked national attention. The boy, 13, was last seen with his father, Mark Redwine, on surveillance footage at the Durango-La Plata County Airport and at Walmart in Durango.

“It’s kind of surreal,” said Elaine Hatfield-Hall, Dylan’s mother, in an interview Tuesday with The Durango Herald. “Sometimes, it doesn’t feel like it happened.”

Dylan’s last known whereabouts were at his father’s home, 2343 County Road 500, just north of Vallecito Reservoir. His last phone activity or communication was at 9:37 p.m. Nov. 18, 2012, when he sent text messages to a friend about plans to meet up.

Dylan’s friend sent a text at 6:46 the next morning asking, “where are you,” and received no response.

Investigators found the boy’s partial remains in June 2013 about 8 miles up Middle Mountain Road. Hikers found the boy’s skull in November 2015 about 1½ miles up Middle Mountain Road from where the rest of his remains were found.

Law enforcement arrested Mark Redwine, now 58, in July 2017 in Washington state and accused him of second-degree murder and child abuse. He has been incarcerated ever since at the La Plata County Jail.

Redwine’s trial date has been postponed at least three times in the past year. He is currently scheduled for a four-week trial in April 2020.

Correct. The State rested so this is a defense display. Not sure what the point they were trying to show was though.
That's a prosecution mock up of Mark Redwine's living room that was shown to the jury early in the trial. I'm not sure why it was necessary myself. Why would the jury have to look at the furniture? There's no blood stains to see.

I'm also not sure why it was shown on this person's Twitter today.

Woman testifies she saw Dylan Redwine bleed on his father's living room floor

A former romantic interest of Mark Redwine testified that he was an “attentive” father who was “very upset” when he learned his 13-year-old son Dylan Redwine was dead.

“He loved Dylan very much, talked about him all the time,” said Karen Alexander, who lives in Bakerfield and visited Mark Redwine at his Vallecito home in 2011.

Alexander took the witness stand on Monday as a witness for Mark Redwine’s defense. He is charged with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death for his son’s 2012 disappearance.

During her testimony, Alexander also said that she saw Dylan Redwine bleed onto the floor of Mark Redwine’s living room after he cut himself with a knife during a barbecue. This is significant because prosecution witnesses have said blood belonging to Dylan Redwine was found in this area.

During cross-examination, Alexander conceded she had never been asked about this detail before, and had not disclosed it earlier in the investigation or when she appeared on the “Dr. Phil Show” in defense of Mark Redwine.

The final witness who took the stand on Monday afternoon was Richard Swayze, who worked with Mark Redwine at United Pipeline. He saw Mark Redwine on Nov. 19, 2012 -- the day after Dylan Redwine was last seen.

He said Mark Redwine looked "happier than I'd ever seen him" and that he was "sober, clearer and happy" than he usually would be. He said that Mark Redwine lingered at his desk and talked about at least one of his sons, which he didn't typically do.

“He just kept talking," Swayze said. “That’s what I found strange about the whole conversation … just seemed really strange to me.”

Blood evidence doesn't support violent incident inside Redwine home, defense expert says

A forensic scientist spent hours Tuesday morning on the witness stand going over bloodstains found inside the home of Mark Redwine and said he would have expected more blood to be present if there was some type of violent incident there.

Earlier in the trial, Joe Clayton, who was the one who applied the Luminal at the Redwine home testified about a bloodstain found on the wooden floor under the rug. He said if the rug had been there he would have expected to find blood on the carpet as well, which he did not.

On cross examination, Eikelenboom agreed to that point and said he's never been to a crime scene where someone was able to completely remove blood from carpeting, simply because it seeps into the fibers.

Prosecutors asked if it was likely the rug was later placed on the top of the blood stain after it was wiped up, and he replied yes.

He also agreed on cross examination that there were blunt force injuries that could result in death that might bleed very little or not all.

I don't believe that woman at all.

I've busted my head open many times. Head wounds bleed alot. Once was 6 staples. The bathroom was covered in blood and my shirt. So much so I had to throw it away. My mom almost passed out when she saw me. I went by ambulance so I wouldn't get blood all over my parents car. But luckily it was on my natural part or my hair just wouldn't look right. It does have a permanent indentation from the staples. That's my experience. The nurses even stressed how much head wounds bleed.
