Search underway for missing mother and 10-year-old daughter

A search is underway for a missing mother and her daughter in Louisiana. Baton Rouge Police confirmed to UWK that the pair was reported missing around two weeks ago to the department.

Danielle Lea and her daughter Alayna, 10, were last seen between April & May in East Feliciana Parish, according to law enforcement and family. The mother and daughter are believed to be from East Feliciana Parish.

Sources tell UWK that search parties are currently looking near the Atchafalaya Basin in connection to their disappearance. UWK has also learned that multiple law enforcement agencies in Louisiana are involved in the ongoing investigation into the missing mother and daughter, including the U.S. Marshals.

Law enforcement sources and family of the missing mother and daughter say a man last seen with the pair was arrested in Galveston on July 27th. He’s been identified as James Michael Nona and is charged with an out-of-county warrant. UWK has learned that he was arrested for failure to register as a sex offender in a Louisiana parish. Nona is awaiting transport to Montgomery County, per sheriff’s office records.

The mother and daughter were not with him at the time of his arrest and it’s why the search is currently underway for the two. Law enforcement has not released any official details at this time on what his connection, if any, is to the case.

This doesn't sound good at all.

On Facebook:
I purchased her house from her in April and he was at closing. She kept crying and everyone knew something was up. They even tried to help her. Supposedly they headed to Texas immediately after.

Reading that made me sick and sad all at the same time! What do you do if you see this happening at a closing? Call authorities? Try to get her alone and ask what's wrong? We need to know what to do when women appear to be in distress! I'm not even sure what I would do!

Some probably just assumed she was sad selling. It happens a lot. After seeing so many home closings, I've probably seen as many with tears as not.

I don't understand why there is hardly anything in the media for them. Apparently they were quiet before he was arrested because they were afraid they were in danger and of what he'd do. But now he's been arrested. Soooo....where's the big push to find them? There's stuff on Facebook, but next to nothing in MSM.

Missing woman and child reportedly may be in St. Martin Parish

An East Feliciana Parish woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been reported missing in the Butte La Rose area.

According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Danielle Escue Lea and her daughter, Alayna Lea, were reported missing in Baton Rouge on July 28.

Authorities said they may currently be in St. Martin Parish.

Officials said information gathered during the investigation indicates Danielle and Alayna were seen in the Butte La Rose area in late April and possibly into May.

The two were reportedly with 42-year-old James Michael Nona, of Montgomery County, Texas, before his arrest in Texas on unrelated charges, authorities said.

Investigators continue search for missing mother Danielle Lea and daughter Alayna

Authorities continue searching for 39-year-old Danielle Escue Lea and her 10-year-old daughter, Alayna Lea, after investigators developed information placing the pair in St. Martin Parish months before they were reported missing.

Danielle and Alayna were reported missing out of Baton Rouge on July 28. According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, investigators believe the mother and daughter were in the Butte La Rose area during late April and possibly into May.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff Becket Breaux said investigators are committed to pursuing every possible lead.

"We're not leaving any rock unturned. If there's foul play. Involving any individual. We're gonna find out and we're gonna put them where they belong."

The investigation now involves the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, the Louisiana State Police and the Baton Rouge Police Department. WAFB confirmed that Danielle Lea's mother is an employee of the Baton Rouge Police Department.

Breaux said investigators have used multiple resources as they continue searching for the missing mother and daughter.

"We did excavations on locations. We went by boat looking at the area. We use drones. We use canines. There's a whole bunch of instances where we're trying to locate the individuals."

While reporting in Butte La Rose, KATC visited the area near the Happy Town campground after speaking with several community members who said they had heard rumors about property that may have been connected to 42-year-old James Michael Nona. Authorities previously identified Nona, of Montgomery County, Texas, as the man Danielle and Alayna were reportedly with before his arrest in Texas on unrelated charges.

When asked about those rumors, Breaux said investigators are still working to determine whether any connection exists.

"It might have been a relationship between the two and whether there was a conglomeration between the two to purchase property or we're still looking into that and the investigation is undergoing."

Breaux said investigators continue to follow every tip they receive in hopes of finding answers.

"Running on tips, we've been getting tips and every lead we get or tip we get, we're surely going all the way to the end and exhausting all avenues."
