Search on for 2-year-old Oregon boy who disappeared while playing in front yard

Authorities in Oregon are searching for a 2-year-old boy last seen playing in his home's front yard but out of sight of his parents, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says.

Dane Paulsen was reported missing around 4:25 p.m. Saturday, the office said in a statement on social media.

Members of the sheriff's office and fire and police agencies searched the property and surrounding areas on foot and with drones with thermal imaging equipment Saturday, the office said.

On Sunday, search and rescue teams were conducting methodical searches of an area north of the small city of Siletz, near the Siletz River, using divers, drones, dogs and watercraft, the sheriff's office said. Volunteers who wanted to help were urged to stay out of the main search area.

Almost 300 people were involved in the search, the sheriff's office said.

As of Sunday evening, 382 acres had been searched and 283 miles covered, the office noted.

A vehicle and male driver Dane's parents didn't know who were spotted near Dane's home around the time he was last seen were found and were "no longer a point of interest," the office said Sunday evening.

The office said an Amber Alert hasn't been issued because Dane's "disappearance does not meet the criteria to use the Amber Alert system," adding that, "There is no evidence at this time to suggest criminal actions are involved in this incident."

"Dane is friendly and fearless, and is comfortable around strangers and water, but cannot swim. Dane is known to love water and vehicles," the sheriff's office pointed out.

Court documents detail parents’ actions before Siletz toddler’s death in river

New details are emerging regarding the death of a two-year-old Siletz toddler in March 2025.

According to court documents obtained by KATU News, Dane Paulsen's father, Aaron, told law enforcement he had been "binge watching" a TV show at the time Dane had gone missing.

Documents state that Dane's mother, Cha Met Jackson, told Aaron at the time that she was leaving the house, and keeping Dane at the house with his dad.

The documents say Aaron "watched Dane walk out the back sliding glass door alone." Later, Jackson told law enforcement she heard her son knocking on the door of the 5th-wheel trailer she was inside of on their property, and said thought "oh sh*t, the baby's out." But, she did not open the door and continued to "clean up inside the trailer."

Police later found a toddler footprint at the edge of the river near the couple's house, and a toy the couple said he had been playing with prior to his disappearance.

Records state both Aaron and Jackson were "aware that Dane loved the water, was not fearful of the water, but did not know how to swim."
The little boy was knocking on the door even? And they wouldn’t let him in? No wonder they’ve gotten negligent charges against them.

Lawyer for Aaron Paulsen calls out District Attorney, floats theory of stranger abduction
Aaron Paulsen's attorney sent a strongly worded response to Lincoln County District Attorney Jenna Wallace's motion to call more than 10 witnesses in connection with the drowning death of Dane Paulsen.

Attorney Richard Cohen, in court filings submitted Friday, accused Wallace of trying to taint the jury pool by raising concerns from former neighbors.

Cohen said one of the neighbors already had issues with the Paulsen family over reports of unsupervised dogs.

According to Cohen's motion, another email that raised past parenting concerns focused more on Dane Paulsen's mother, Chamet Jackson, and should not be relevant to the charges Aaron Paulsen faces.

Finally, Cohen said investigators failed to consider an alternative theory that Dane Paulsen was abducted before being found in the Siletz River.

According to Cohen, a 60-year-old man was near the home and property at the time of Dane's disappearance.

The man was later stopped, interviewed by police and ruled out as a suspect, according to authorities.

But Cohen contends body camera footage shows what appears to be a "Jason mask" on the headrest of the front passenger seat of the man's car — a mask with two eye holes and a mouth.

The Lincoln County district attorney contends there was a long history of Paulsen and Jackson failing to properly supervise their child and that Paulsen was binge-watching TV on the day Dane disappeared.
