Texas teen missing since Christmas Eve believed to be in 'imminent danger': Sheriff

A Texas teen who has been missing since Christmas Eve was last seen leaving her home that morning and is believed to be in "imminent danger," law enforcement officials said on Sunday.

An unidentified person believed to be 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos was captured on security video around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday searching her vehicle for an unidentified item, according to a statement from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said they believe Mendoza Olmos left the residence on foot since her vehicle remained there and that the only items she took with her were her car keys and possibly her driver's license.

Her last known location was the 11000 block of Caspian Spring in northwest Bexar County, the sheriff's office said.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told ABC News on Sunday that sheriff's deputies and volunteers have been searching around the clock for Mendoza Olmos.

Multiple agencies have joined the search, including the FBI, which is providing technical assistance, and the Department of Homeland Security, which is monitoring border crossings and international travel, Salazar said.

"We definitely don't want to miss anything," Salazar said. "The ground search is somewhat limited to a couple of square miles. We're also not ruling out that this case may take us outside the borders of the continental United States."

Salazar said investigators have not ruled anything out in the teenager's disappearance, including kidnapping, human trafficking and the potential she left on her own accord.

Salazar said Mendoza Olmos recently went through a romantic breakup, but authorities said the breakup was mutual and don't suspect anything "nefarious" was involved, saying everyone close to her is cooperating.

"Camila’s mother stated that Camila normally goes for a morning walk; however, she became concerned when Camila did not return within a reasonable period of time," according to the sheriff's office.

Salazar confirmed that Mendoza Olmos was not detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), despite her being a U.S. citizen.

"That was a personal concern. So, I had it checked to make sure that there were no stops, no detentions, and that she's not somewhere in a federal detention facility. That is something we needed to check," Salazar said.

Salazar noted that it was unusual for Mendoza Olmos to leave her phone at home, saying she leads an active lifestyle and it's "highly unusual" that she hasn’t returned.

"That's why we're working basically around the clock on this case," Salazar said.

While Salazar would not disclose some details of Mendoza Olmos's disappearance, he said there is enough information to suggest she is in "imminent danger."

Salazar requested help from the community in the search, asking neighbors of Mendoza Olmos to check their surveillance cameras for any footage of the teenagers.

Good points.

I was married too at 19 and with a baby. The 19 year old is not a baby.

I imagine they've explored things with the ex. I've heard it was a mutual break up but I've heard different things on how recent it was. One news station acts like it was recent but I've also heard it was months ago.

I will say most we've seen leave that did it on their own are being very controlled yet by their parents even though they are adult age. We've seen several over the years. And this is sounding as if there is some control here, sleeping with her, meeting her on walks, etc.

One can only hope it's the case as then she'd be alive. IF a problem child wasting resources and attention.
Technically an adult at 18. IDKY They do that.

You know she left everything at home that could track her--the phone, the car. Yet she had her keys that has been said and she was looking for something in her car. Her friends say she could have left without sneaking, why not take her car, etc. but not even friends know everything always and not sure how current these friends were. Watching something that is showing a ton of various things on this case.

But they said something that struck me and it was they think if she'd left on her own she would have taken her car. I beg to differ, with GPS and such, she left the things that could track her...

I hope she left of her own free will. Not that if she did I won't have things to say but I'd be very happy she was okay.

I think it should be added here just for the thread content that Camila was also recently baptized.

And that friends said she was conscientious about keeping her phone charged...

I am thinking she has a second phone that neither parent knows about. Has the boyfriend's name been published? Also, she may be pregnant, hence the baptism.

Something seems to be missing on this thread. Did I miss where anyone said a body was found, and so on? I don't think so, I looked back.

I don't really understand why she is going on walks on her own in the dark along a highway in the early morning. It seems it was a regular thing. Especially when she is suicidal?

Has the ex been contacted? That would be my first stop as a parent. She left her phone. Did she have a second phone?

Also, still calling her a teen at age 19. I was married with a 9 month old baby at that age.

So why is mom still checking on her when she goes on walks and is still sleeping with her. Where is her father? Why did she break up with the boyfriend. Has he been contacted by LE or the family?
19 as in nineTEEN is a teen. A legal adult, teen.

Yeah when things like that are said, links are much appreciated...

Disappearance of Camila Mendoza Olmos: BCSO provides update

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office revealed deputies have found a body amid the search for the missing Texas teen Camila Mendoza Olmos, who was last seen outside her home in Northwest Bexar County around 7 a.m. on Christmas Eve.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, search teams, comprised of FBI agents and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, discovered the body around 4:45 p.m. near the Burning Bush Landscaping Company at Bent Cyn and FM 1560, a few hundred yards from her home in an area of tall grass. Salazar said they went back to an area that had already been checked.

Salazar said it's too early to tell who the body is or what the cause and manner of death is. He said the medical examiner will be making both of those determinations, but he hopes that they can try to expedite that process to be able to get the community answers that "everybody's been waiting for."

Salazar confirmed a firearm was found with the body and said investigators currently do not suspect foul play, citing indicators that suggest possible self-harm.

Few hundred yards from home. So was the picture/recent video not her or did she circle back or cut through or some such...

I am forwarding through a lot of it. Emergency lights and traffic. Looks like family or someone there. Tape now going up for the scene I guess.

Just linked one related.

I never knew she had a gun until this was basically over. Had I known that...

DL and keys is what I heard. No car. And I listened to the dad, mom, etc.

Very, very sad ending as it seems it will be confirmed. Beautiful girl. Why.

Unfortunately because depression is a horrible uncontrollable monster. She didn't think there was any other option. I'm so absolutely gutted for her family (if this is confirmed to be their beautiful girl) and I know how they will feel.

I'm a bit confused about the body being found in an area that had already been searched. I would assume if this is her that she would have been gone fairly early in the search so I'm just not understanding how she was missed the first time.
Also, if a gun was indeed used didn't anyone hear it go off? We live a few miles from a military base and the gunshots from there are clearly heard here.
Also....I didn't hear anything about her even having access to a gun until the body was found so you're definitely not alone there.
