UPDATE: Family confirms Midland Co search related to Caitlin Denison disappearance

The family of Caitlin Denison confirmed that a search in Midland County early Wednesday morning was connected to the young Reno woman’s 2018 disappearance and the ongoing efforts to find her.

In a statement, the family said:

This afternoon, we received an update from the Texas Rangers regarding our inquiry into the search of the vacant field in Midland.

We were informed that the Rangers had indeed been conducting a search related to Caitlin’s case, though, unfortunately, they did not locate her. While this outcome is heartbreaking, we remain steadfast in our commitment to finding Caitlin and bringing her home.

We are grateful that law enforcement continues to actively investigate her disappearance, and we appreciate the ongoing efforts of the Texas Rangers and all involved. However, it is disheartening that we were not notified in advance of this search, leaving us to learn about it from third-party sources. We believe that more transparent communication would have helped to support Caitlin’s family and all those working tirelessly to resolve this case. As we move forward, we remain hopeful that, together with law enforcement, we will uncover the answers we so desperately need and bring justice to Caitlin and her loved ones.

Because this is an active and ongoing investigation into the 2018 disappearance, we wanted to remind the community about certain aspects of the case for which law enforcement are still seeking answers.

On January 9, 2018 flew from Reno to Midland to meet a man she’d met previously. The unidentified man is known to have worked as a truck driver in the Permian Basin oil industry, but Denison never told her family the man’s name.

Once the pair landed in Midland, investigators said they believe Denison stayed with the man in his RV, which may have been parked in West Odessa.

The following day, on January 10, 2018, the RV was moved to a location in Midland south of IH-20/Loop 250. That same day, Denison advised family and friends that she was at the Wal-Mart at 4517 N. Midland Drive with the man but was “afraid for her life”.

Investigators also believe the pair visited the Domino’s Pizza on Linda Avenue in Odessa and then went to Rick’s Cabaret in an attempt to find Denison employment. That is the last day Denison had contact with any of her family and friends.

A DPS spokesperson said Wednesday after the search, “This investigation is ongoing, and investigators remain hopeful of finding answers to her disappearance.”
