Missing Quebec child: Police scrambling to find toddler who vanished in Montreal

Quebec provincial police are searching for a three-year-old girl who was last seen Sunday morning in Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) says the child, C.B., was reported missing Sunday afternoon in Coteau-du-Lac, Que., about 50 kilometres west of where she was last seen in Montreal’s LaSalle borough.

According to authorities, a woman who was caring for the girl entered a business in Coteau-du-Lac around 3 p.m. and said she couldn’t find the child.

Police searched through the night in both LaSalle and Coteau-du-Lac and also looked in Ontario.

3-year-old girl missing from LaSalle, could be in Montérégie

Quebec provincial police are looking for a three-year-old girl who was last seen in Montreal’s LaSalle borough.

C.B. was last seen on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. near Newman Boulevard.

The person who was taking care of the girl at the time, who sources have told Noovo Info was her mother, reported her missing at 3:30 p.m. in Coteau-du-Lac in the Montérégie region, almost an hour away.

“There was a person who was taking care of the child, who came [into a store] to say that they didn’t have the child anymore, that they lost her; they didn’t know where she was,” said Jean-Raphaël Drolet, a spokesperson with the SQ.

Drolet says police are looking for the girl both in LaSalle and Coteau-du-Lac, adding that she could be with her dog, a brown, long-haired chihuahua.

“If you see a dog that looks like this, don’t hesitate to call 911, and we will respond,” he said. “That’s the kind of information that could break the case.”

Police are asking anyone who lives near the two search areas to check their backyards, doorbell cameras and more for potential sightings.

Camila Alvez, who lives near the family home in LaSalle, says she never really noticed the girl or her dog.

However, she says she witnessed police searching “every apartment” for them.

“I talked with the police by the entrance [of the building] last night,” she said. “They [the police] were searching door to door. It was horrible.”

So it seems that they are eluding to it being her mom that was caring for her.
So if I'm following this correctly, the "caregiver" we've into a store at 9am staying she couldn't find her but then waited until after 3pm and over an hour away to report her missing?

No. She went into a store after 3 pm and said she couldn't find her. That was the first report according to the article.

Seems like no reason at all to travel an hour away to make a report. Not like it was a small or rural area. Would have been easier to report locally in Montreal.

That one picture of her reminds me of Caylee Anthony! I can't.... I think being a grandma has caused me to be more upset about the littles' cases lately.

I can guarantee it does that as does losing one worsen it.

She's such a little cutie. Way too many of them. It gets really old. I hope there is hope here. Really hard to say so far.

Helicopters, drones deployed in search for missing 3-year-old Montreal girl

Quebec provincial police have deployed helicopters, drones, and ground search crews in the search for a three-year-old girl who was last seen in Montreal’s LaSalle borough.

C.B. was last seen on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. near Newman Boulevard.

Her mother reported her missing at 3:30 p.m. in Coteau-du-Lac in the Montérégie region, almost an hour away.

Jean-Raphaël Drolet, a spokesperson with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said the mother “came [into a store] to say that they didn’t have the child anymore, that they lost her; they didn’t know where she was.”

All the same, the force says her family and friends have reason to fear for her health and safety and have received assistance from police in Ontario and search and rescue volunteers in the search.

“It’s worrying. It’s a three-year-old child. It’s a young child. We all know how vulnerable they are,” said Drolet.

There are still unanswered questions about the mother’s state of health when the child went missing. She was questioned by investigators Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the SQ said the mother was driving a grey 2007 Ford Escape with a yellow “Baby on board” sign in English hanging in the rear window and the licence plate K50 FVE.

Police released a video of the vehicle to the public Monday afternoon in the hopes that it might jog people’s memory and help investigators with the timeline of events.

Even before that post things hint at what was going on with mom. Mental state, drugs, other?

When was child last seen not by her? None of any of that sounds good.

Police find dog believed to belong to missing 3-year-old Montreal girl as search continues

Quebec provincial police have found a dog they believe was with a three-year-old girl when she went missing in Montreal’s LaSalle borough on Sunday.

In a statement to reporters early Monday evening, Jean-Raphaël Drolet, a spokesperson with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), said officers found a dead dog on the side of Highway 30 in Vaudreuil-Dorion at around 2 p.m. and that it matches the description of the brown, long-haired chihuahua belonging to the missing toddler, C.B.

Officers are canvassing the area where the animal was found as the search was mostly suspended after sunset Monday. The air and ground search by police will continue Tuesday morning.

So dog dead alongside a highway. Sad.

There is so much missing here but sounding at minimum like an unsupervised child and that's at minimum. And that's if any part of the story is even true.

Seemed like where it was going. Nothing with mom was adding up.

Still praying and hoping but seems doubtful this will have a good outcome.

For those without TikTok here is the mom's video. She apparently posted it "hours before reporting C missing".

From the link above: “You try that again and this is going to get ugly,” she says, looking into the camera. The video is captioned: “Have you ever faced a mother who has nothing left to lose?”

Search continues Tuesday for missing toddler C. B.

Quebec provincial police continued to comb areas west of Montreal Tuesday for missing toddler C.B., who was last seen Sunday in the LaSalle borough.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Jean-Raphaël Drolet confirmed the operation was underway in the Montérégie region, with a focus on Coteau-du-Lac, where the three-year-old from Montreal was reported missing.

Police are also looking in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area after a dead dog, believed to the Chihuahua seen with C, was found by police near Highway 30 Monday afternoon. Police were seen Tuesday morning searching along Highway 30 west of Montreal, between Highways 20 and 40. The search could extend to surrounding areas, according to Drolet.

As the extensive search continues by police, Drolet said public volunteers are not requested as of Tuesday morning.

Police have also searched the LaSalle apartment building where the girl lived and said they have met with other family members, but would not provide further details.

Search for missing Quebec toddler continues for 3rd day

About 150 police officers and trained volunteers are scouring a large search area west of the Montreal island, with the operation to locate a missing three-year-old girl now in its third day.

As of Wednesday morning, there still appeared to be no sign of three-year-old C.B.

Her mother, Rachel-Ella Todd, is scheduled to make her second appearance at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., courthouse.

Police are discouraging citizens from conducting their own searches as they might destroy tracks and hamper the SQ's efforts. On Wednesday, the SQ reiterated that the public can contribute to the search efforts by looking out for the grey Ford Escape with the licence plate K50 FVE that the mother used between 9:45 a.m. and around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

"She left LaSalle and made it to Coteau-du-Lac — that's a very large zone," said Cossette.

"We're calling on potential witnesses in case they saw that vehicle on some isolated road or if they have security cameras in front of their homes or businesses or on their vehicles ... Ultimately, we want to recreate the entire route that the mother followed with her daughter."

According to Radio-Canada sources, Todd didn't seem lucid and made confused remarks which complicates the work of investigators. Sources also told Radio-Canada an analysis of Todd's phone revealed searches for children's funeral urns, as was first reported by the Journal de Montréal on Tuesday.

Father of missing Quebec toddler C. B. shares public pleas on social media

Since the disappearance of three-year-old C. B. on Sunday, her father has shared a series of public appeals on social media, urging people to help with the search and come forward with any information.

Not much is known about Matt Bell, 35. The professional chef has not spoken to the media publicly since his daughter disappeared.

In the aftermath of C's disappearance, her mother, Rachel Todd, was arrested and charged with child abandonment.

Like Bell, she works in the restaurant industry. According to Bell’s Facebook profile, the two were engaged in 2021, although recent TikTok posts by Todd suggest they may have since separated.

On Monday, Bell shared several posts on Instagram, including updates from the Sûreté du Québec appealing to the public.

On Tuesday, he posted several times again. One of the posts was a link of a Facebook message originally shared by someone who identified themselves as a family friend. The post included a widely circulated image of C smiling.

The accompanying text read: “C is still missing. Three years old. Very timid and quiet. Any and all information is needed. Please check your cameras for a 2007 grey Ford SUV and a little girl wearing light grey pants and a white long sleeve.”

Above the image, the caption reads: “Please, anyone in Vaudreuil, Les Cèdres, or Les Coteaux — all in the Montérégie area — if you live, work, or have a business near the highway or side streets, check your cameras from June 15 around 9:40 a.m. to about 3 p.m.”
