Blood stains found in search for mother and 2 children missing in south Alabama

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch held a press conference Monday providing an update regarding the disappearance of a mother and her two children in south Alabama.

The missing individuals have been identified as Aurelia Choc Cac De Tiul, 40, and her two children, Niurka Tiul Choc, 17, and Anthony Garcia, 2.

Burch said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are assisting and “no resource is being spared” in the search.

But, according to the sheriff, the family could be in danger due to evidence found at the scene, including blood stains.

“But it’s not just the blood,” Burch said. “It’s the fact that there’s cell phones and cash left at the scene and a missing mattress, which is very unusual.”

The family was last seen by neighbors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at their residence in the 9000 block of Ben Hamilton Road. Neighbors called police after the family’s home was discovered empty around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Burch, Anthony’s father was initially seen as a suspect but has been ruled out for now after an initial interview corroborated his alibi that he was in Texas at the time the family went missing.

Officials provided information that Aurelia and Niurka were given final deportation orders in April 2025, but Burch said they were not deported contrary to national media “narratives.”

“We’ve obviously known where this person is, but they weren’t suspected of being involved in any violent crime,” Burch said. “So, they’ve had their order out since April, and they could have deported them then. So again, the national narrative isn’t always true down in Mobile.”

The sheriff said it would be up to the “federal authorities involved in deportation” to deport Aurelia and her daughter if they are found safe. Anthony is a U.S. citizen.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch announced three bodies were recovered Wednesday afternoon, believed to be the missing Choc family.

The bodies were found in a “lightly wooded area” of Baldwin County during what Burch described as a “routine follow-up search.”

Burch confirmed the bodies were buried.

“We have enough evidence to determine that this is the Choc family,” Burch said, though he said a positive identification will not be made until after the autopsies are complete.

Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said Hector Gamiliel Argueta Guerra, who is already being held in the Metro Jail on charges of kidnapping, will now also be charged with three counts of capital murder during the course of a kidnapping, three counts of capital murder during the course of a burglary, capital murder for the death of two or more people, capital murder for the murder of a child under the age of 14, three counts of abuse of a corpse and obstruction of justice for giving a false identification to law enforcement in order to prevent an investigation.

“This is a horrific and gruesome murder and the state will seek the death penalty in this case,” Blackwood said.

Blackwood said it is too early in the investigation to determine whether the family was killed in Mobile County or Baldwin County, but said because evidence shows the crime began in Mobile County, that is who will have jurisdiction.

When asked about a possible motive, Burch said a motive had not been determined yet, adding “I mean, what motive would there be to kill a two-year-old?”

Burch said the bodies were found in a field near a residence in Baldwin County, in the area of Downing Road. He said they were buried together.

Blackwood said the charges would be filed today, and Burch said autopsies should be completed sometime today and would hopefully reveal the cause of death.

Man denied bond in killing of Theodore mother, 2 children

The man accused of killing a mother and her two children appeared in court for the first time on capital murder charges Friday and was denied bond. The Mobile County district attorney said preliminary autopsy results were “horrific.”

Hector Argueta-Guerra faces three counts of capital murder in the deaths of Aurelia Choc, her 17-year-old daughter Niurka and her 2-year-old son Anthony. Investigators found the bodies Wednesday evening in a wooded area off Downing Road east of Summerdale. Investigators said Argueta-Guerra has ties to a nearby home, which led them to search the area.

Court documents show all three victims were killed with a sharp-edged weapon. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood declined to specify the weapon but described the preliminary autopsy findings in stark terms.

“I did receive a message while I was in court that explained some of the results, but until I see the preliminary report, I don’t want to share,” Blackwood said. “I will share that the findings are gruesome. The findings are horrific. This family did not deserve to be killed in this way.”

Blackwood asked the judge to drop three original kidnapping charges against Argueta-Guerra, saying the capital murder counts cover those allegations and more. Argueta-Guerra also faces three counts of abuse of a corpse and obstruction of justice. Blackwood said the state will seek the death penalty. Blackwood is also reviewing criminal charges against Argueta-Guerra out of his home country in El Salvador.

This is so disgusting. I hope the death penalty is enforced.

Mobile Co. Sheriff's Office makes kidnapping arrest in missing family investigation
Silverio Garcia was arrested on February3. MCSO says he is in the country illegally from Guatemala, and had firearm in possession. He was the employer of the missing woman and was in a relationship with one of her adult daughters.
So he was her employer but was here illegally?. Get them out. I'm so tired of this. They bring their crime.here and suck us dry. I'm referring to illegals. Bit there are exceptions. Dangerous situations for example need to be taken into account. My own great aunt was murdered in 1981 in NM by 3 illegals. This crime is senseless. Children too. Just evil.

Yeah. I figured it was stabbing by the statement of the amount of blood on scene. What a terrible way to die. And with the 3. They would have heard the others being attacked.Just beyond words.
