Search continues near Browning for missing 3-year old girl

The search continues for Arden Pepion as of Saturday morning. Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services (BLES) is requesting that volunteer searchers sign in with Sgt. Vielle at the command post on Joe Show Road East just above TJ Show’s residence before searching. BLES explained that this is a coordinated effort and they need to maintain locations of all searchers.

They also cautioned that all searchers need to be aware of the weather conditions, terrain, and wild animals. Volunteer searchers must be at least 18 years old and sign waivers.

One of the volunteer searchers, who is not acting in an official capacity, shared on Facebook that helicopters, divers, drones, dogs, and professional search teams are participating. The person also explained that closing down the road and area around the search location was important, saying that the searchers have encountered a bear, a mountain lion, and coyotes. She added that people also leave gates open with cattle, horses, and bison in danger of getting on the road and causing an accident. She added: "The community support is amazing as well as everyone that jumped to donate their time and effort."

The Cascade County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday morning that it has sent investigators, deputies, and members of the the Cascade County Search & Rescue Team to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation to assist in finding Arden, adding, "Please pray they are successful in finding this little girl."

The Blackfeet Tribe said in a news release on Saturday morning: "Several law enforcement agencies and search & rescue teams including drones from around the state have joined as well as local volunteers. A command post has been set up by local law enforcement on the Joe Show Road. The family is grateful to everyone for their assistance during this difficult time. Our continued thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved."

Such a beautiful child. Always bad but when they go missing towards evening, it is really worrisome. One does not have full daylight for long to search if at all and then the child is instantly out all night in conditions, woods, etc. and dark that really terrifies one for especially one this young, 3 years old.

Having boots and a jacket on is a plus but guessing they are getting some cold nights yet in Montana.

Update: Effort to find Arden Pepion is now 'search and recovery'

According to a press release issued by Jim McNeely, Public Information Officer of the Blackfeet Tribe, the search and rescue mission for 3-year-old Arden Pepion has now become a search and recovery effort, according to the Blackfeet Joint Incident Command. The press release states, "Based on the elements and duration of time that has passed since she was last seen, we have come to realize that it now a recovery. Search & Rescue teams along with law enforcement agencies from across the state are continuing to assist in this recovery effort."

McNeeley said that at about 7 a.m. on Sunday, weather permitting, the Two Medicine River in the area of the search will be diverted into a drainage ditch to lower the water level to make the search easier.

Well, they must be pretty sure she was not abducted, did wander off and can't have survived to say that. IT BITES. Another child.

Oh wow! That went downhill fast. 😢

James McNeely, Blackfeet Tribe public information officer, said, "There was a report at one time of shoe tracks going that way and so that was kind of their lead into looking out there. It was snowing that night when she disappeared so that’s why they’re utilizing that now because of the proximity of the house to the river, that’s why they’re basing their decision on that right now.”

The search teams consist solely of trained personnel at this time, and they have covered a 10-mile stretch of river so far. One of the volunteer searchers, who is not acting in an official capacity, said on Saturday that helicopters, divers, drones, dogs, and professional search teams are participating. She also noted that searchers have encountered a bear, a mountain lion, and coyotes. Search for missing 3-year-old girl scaled back
Search and rescue efforts for missing 3-year-old are being scaled back.

According to the press release from Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, they decided to reduce the recovery effort after 10 consecutive days searching for Arden Pepion,.

Officials still have a search plan in place for future searches of the area.

Arden’s family setting up camp for volunteer searchers

Despite first responders’ best attempts, 17 days have passed since three-year-old Arden Pepion went missing in Blackfeet Nation. With teams scaling back the search last week, her family’s taking things into their own hands.

With still no sign of little Arden, her Grandparents Irene and Antoine say they’re preparing a camp for volunteer searchers, after local law enforcement scaled back their efforts.

“I was just really disheartened ‘cause they didn’t have no command post anymore,” said Irene, Arden’s grandmother.

“Everyday we’ve been going down there [to Joe Show East Road], and we don’t see any vehicles around,” said Irene. “They said Fish & Game would go down and they would be checking, but we haven’t seen them.”

“When they scaled back, there was nobody left,” said Antoine.

MRN tried reaching out to local police several times, but haven’t gotten any comment yet as of the writing of this article, with most law enforcement out and searching around for families’ missing loved ones.

Irene and Antoine plan on setting up camp around 10:00 am Tuesday by the Catholic Mission Church near Joe Show Road and Two Medicine Road, giving food and supplies for anyone willing to help look for Arden. https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sha...l&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=user-share

The search for Arden Pepion: "We’re not giving up hope"

We’re not giving up hope - that was the message from the Blackfeet Reservation Police Chief Jess Edwards Thursday at a virtual news conference on Thursday to update people on the search for Arden Pepion.

During the news conference, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services announced for the first time that Pepion was last seen with her non-custodial uncle.

Edwards said “based on the totality of circumstances,” officials do not believe Arden was abducted.

A formal search lasted 10 days, but was only able to find footprints leading to the Two Medicine River and a boot believed to be hers in the river.

The search since has since been scaled back, but people continue to volunteer to search for her.

Blackfeet Law Enforcement release more info about missing girl

They say people last saw Arden Pepion with her non-custodial uncle in a rural area near Two Medicine River.

In an update on Thursday authorities say Pepion had been missing for five to six hours before it was reported.

Initially, crews found footprints leading to the river.

Three days into the search they found a boot belonging to Pepion in the river.

The second to the last post put my radar up but I thought, let it go, it's probably nothing, and now the one right before this one has it FULLY UP. Five or six hours with a three year old???

Both of Arden’s parents, Arbana and Aaron plan on working with small groups of crews and volunteers as they continue searching for their missing daughter.

After celebrating the life of three-year-old Arden Pepion Friday night, volunteer search efforts for her go on.

Evidence from searches and information from the family and law enforcement point in different directions.

On April 22, Arden was supposed to be in the care of Arbana’s mother. Instead, she was believed to be with a family friend who was not her guardian, Arbana said.

His name is HaHaax Vielle.

In a recent phone interview with the Missoulian, Vielle confirmed he was with Arden the night she went missing. The two of them had spent time together beforehand, and on the evening of April 22 had gone to the Two Medicine area near Joe Show East to hang out and so he could practice shooting, Vielle said.

So now we switch from he's an uncle to family friend. A bf maybe? Out practice shooting with a three year old? Not reported missing until hours later?

Two charged in connection with disappearance of 3-year-old Arden Pepion

Missing 3-year-old Arden Pepion’s uncle, HaHaax Vielle, and his girlfriend, Kimberly Higgins have been charged in connection with her disappearance.

According to the Blackfeet Tribal Prosecutors Office (BTPO), Vielle was charged with negligent endangerment and child endangerment and Higgins was charged with accountability.

The charges allege Vielle failed to properly supervise a young child in potentially dangerous conditions.

BTPO alleges Vielle did not notify law enforcement for several hours after she was last seen and that he also left the area.

HaHaax Vielle’s bail was set for $1600, $600 for child neglect and $1,000 for the endangerment.

Kimberly Higgins’s bail was set for $1,000 for the accountability charge.

Both Vielle and Higgins have posted bail and Wednesday they plead not guilty to all charges.
