A family is now pleading for help from the public to help find Antoinette Forbes, 53, a single mother who has been missing for days.
Aileen Forbes is Antoinette's sister, and was fighting back tears as she told 7News how concerned she is at this sudden disappearance.
"If you've seen Antoinette, please come forward. Any information that you have can be invaluable to us for bringing my sister, who is, she's my beloved sister, a beloved daughter and mother, colleague, friend. We want her to come home," Forbes said through tears. "Please come forward if you know anything."
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) posted a missing person notice on their X account, stating Antoinette Forbes was last seen Friday, Sept. 4, in her neighborhood on the 3200 block of Nebraska Avenue, Northwest, near the American University campus.
Aileen Forbes said she immediately sounded the alarm once she learned her sister was missing.
"Antoinette is a single mother and her son, her 10-year-old son, Nathan is her world. Nathan is the center of Antoinette's world. She would never, ever leave him. She also has a beloved dog, and our dog Max was found in the house alone," Forbes said. "Honestly, we're in shock. We can't even believe this is happening. It's unreal. Antoinette is an incredibly competent and responsible individual, so for us to lose touch with her, there's clearly something wrong."
Forbes said the two last spoke on the phone just days ago.
"For her to be missing, we can't comprehend it, quite honestly," Forbes said. "Last time I spoke with my sister was completely unextraordinary. We have a very close relationship. We were planning our Christmas vacation, and we were going to nail down flights the following day."
That follow-up conversation never happened.
7News saw MPD patrol cars in front of Antoinette's home throughout the day Tuesday.
Now, Aileen Forbes said she is holding out hope her sister will be found.
"We're trying to wrap our minds around it right now, and we're not thinking about a worse case. We want to bring her home," Forbes said. "Where is my sister? Where is she? Has anyone out there seen her or seen anything suspicious?"
