A 45-year-old dentist in Colorado faces charges of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, a mother of six children, after severe headaches left her brain dead, investigators said over the weekend.

According to the Aurora Police Department, James Toliver Craig was taken into custody early Sunday morning, days after he allegedly drove his 43-year-old wife to the hospital.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the wife’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was placed on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. She was declared medically brain dead a short time later.” further investigation revealed that the victim’s sudden death was linked to poison.

Although authorities did not immediately identify the victim, a since-removed website for Craig’s Summerbrook Dental practice said her name was Angela. A Law&Crime search of the Wayback Machine-archived version of that website shows that Dr. Jim Craig called himself and Angela “the proud parents of six great kids”:

Children of Aurora dentist who poisoned his wife sue him, his practice and company that sold him cyanide​

AURORA, Colo. — The six children of an Aurora dentist who poisoned his wife have filed a lawsuit against him as well as his now-defunct practice and the company that sold him cyanide, 9NEWS Investigates has learned.
James Craig, 48, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the wake of his conviction last year of first-degree murder.
The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount for the couple’s children for “the loss of their mother’s care, companionship, guidance, and financial support” as well as other damages, including “mental anguish, anger, frustration” and pain and suffering.
Four of those children are grown, but the other two are still minors.
At his criminal trial last year, prosecutors laid out a case that Craig had poisoned his wife using arsenic, eye drops – mixing them into her smoothies – and, finally, cyanide.
Craig ordered the arsenic through Amazon and had it delivered to the couple’s home and bought the eye drops in a series of purchases at Denver metro area stores, according to court testimony.
