INDIANAPOLIS — The search for 8-month-old Amiah Robertson has prompted a lot of rumors and speculation into what exactly has happened to the infant.
We know the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department took a missing person report from Amiah's mother on Saturday, March 16, but it was later learned that the infant had not been seen alive since March 9.
Detectives continue to conduct interviews, review tips and search for Amiah.
Below is a timeline of the events we know based on what IMPD detectives have released so far in their search and investigation.
Saturday, March 9
  • This was the last day that Amiah's mother or anyone else police have spoken to remembers seeing Amiah Robertson alive. The child's mother told detectives that her boyfriend Robert Lyons had taken the infant "to the babysitter." These details were not actually released until a March 23 press conference with police. Lyons is believed to have been driving a 1996 maroon Isuzu Rodeo in "poor condition." Detectives believe Lyons was in the area of Rockville Road and South Mickley Avenue for an "extended period of time"during the day.
  • Detectives say Lyons returned around 10 p.m. to Amiah's mother but did not have the infant.
Thursday, March 14
  • During the initial report to police, this was the day Amiah's mother told police she had last seen her infant. It is unclear what went on this day but it was later determined that her mother had not seen her for nearly a week before this time.
Saturday, March 16
  • Police were called to a home in the 200 block of S. Holmes Avenue to take a missing person report for 8-month-old Amiah. Police say at the time the report was taken, family members told them they did not believe the baby was in danger.
  • Also that day, IMPD arrested a 20-year-old man from that same residence on a domestic, according to public police records. That man was preliminary charged of leaving the scene of an accident and criminal recklessness, according to those public records.

Bumping. I'm sorry it has been so long. It is a sad world that things move on when things like this need to be solved and children are missing. And perps go on their merry way as well, so very wrong.

Anyhow, still praying they find you and an arrest is made.

Remembering 8-month-old Amiah Roberston 3 years after her disappearance

It’s been nearly three years since the disappearance of an 8-month-old Indianapolis girl.

Amiah Robertson has never been found, and police have made no arrests.

On Saturday afternoon, Hutton and others will host Amiah’s annual memorial walk. It’ll start at the United Steelworkers hall, 218 S. Addison St., and end at the memorial garden.

By remembering baby Amiah, supporters hope that new information will develop in this case.

Hatton said to “the people that were responsible for Amiah going missing, we want them to be held accountable. We want them to be honest about what they’ve done to Amiah so she can be laid to rest properly.”

Amiah’s memorial walk for justice will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. Organizers asked supporters to bring balloons and signs for Amiah.

Pet case. With the arrest in the West case and now seeing this, it is what I would hope here. Another baby/child that should have been reported missing I think long before she was. Misinformation, I think intentional, probably threats, to anyone who knew anything, and perhaps more than a couple of people that "had" something on the other, and a time frame already elapsed as she didn't go missing right when reported... Even the report seemed accidental... Or came about in a response to another incident...

Poor baby. One of those cases where I think they "know" who likely did it but they just don't have enough...

I don't believe she is alive, may this baby RIP.

Mother of missing Amiah Robertson arrested for neglect

Amber Robertson, mother of missing Amiah Robertson, was arrested on Saturday for four counts of neglect.

Robertson was arrested Saturday for the following crimes:
  • 2 counts of Neglect of a Dependent
  • Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Bodily Injury
  • Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
IMPD said they would not respond at this time for any other details.

It doesn't say if the charges relate to Amiah but I am assuming because of the bodily injury one that they do. I sure hope she didn't have something happen to another child of hers!

Such good news though on a very cold case or what seemed to be. Hopefully this gets her to flip on him too. She appeared to be doing that but I didn't trust her completely at all, it was a little too odd how she found some of Amiah's things by the water days in...

Was just thinking about this baby the other day.

Witness describes discovery of key evidence in case of missing baby Amiah

In the days after Amber Robertson’s daughter disappeared in March of 2019, she was criticized on social media for sharing photographs of herself relaxing poolside at a westside Indianapolis hotel while volunteers and police searched for baby Amiah.

At the time, the media was provided a photograph, taken beneath a yellow table umbrella on a pool deck, of Robertson snuggling with her infant.

Now, a witness to the discovery of evidence and the early days of the police investigation into the disappearance of baby Amiah tells FOX59 News that she has seen another photograph of the child taken at roughly the same time that is more disturbing.

“A picture of the baby wearing the same pajamas, wrapped in the same fuzzy white blanket that she had in the picture in the news with her mother, but she was laying on a bed and her eyes were closed and the entire left side of her face was covered in bruises,” said the witness. ”The other picture looks like the baby is either very sick or that the baby is not alive.”

FOX59 News has reviewed the photographs the witness described and found the description to be an accurate portrayal of what the photos show.

The witness remembers seeing Robertson, baby Amiah, Robert Lyons and Jeanette Browning at the Ramada by Wyndham Hotel near I-465 and Crawfordsville Road on March 8 and 9 of 2019.

“With the baby at a swimming pool and basically hanging around off and on for a few days somewhere where I could physically see them but, yes, I was aware of their presence in the area where the police were looking,” said the witness. ”I was able to observe a camera that was presumably owned by one of the four members of that family, photos that had been taken during their time near this body of water.”

It was on March 25, 2019, that IMPD and divers from the Wayne Township Fire Department searched a large pond adjacent to the hotel property at roughly the same time investigators were discovering items belonging to the child along the banks of Eagle Creek near McCarty Street as sources told FOX59 News that cadaver dogs hit on the evidence.

When the occupants of Room 249 had cleared out of the hotel two weeks before, they left behind a shambles and some crucial baby items.

“Damaged things tossed around, television broken in half, basically, the flat screen,” said the witness. ”There was a pack-n-play portable baby bed. There also was a baby car seat. Those are the two main items that were left behind.”

The witness said investigators recovered the discarded baby items from a dumpster days after the pond search.

“Seeing them bring dogs out to sniff around the left items,” said the witness who described that police took, “two visual pieces of evidence and at least two physical pieces of evidence.”

During a briefing announcing grand jury charges of child neglect against both Robertson and Lyons, IMPD Deputy Chief Kendale Adams was asked if investigators had physical evidence to back up the accounts witnesses gave to grand jurors about baby Amiah’s disappearance.

”I think what we’ve put together, as far as the physical evidence, as far as the testimony, in terms of the forensic evidence, gives us a good timeline of what occurred.”

The witness still shudders at the thought of what quite possibly happened to baby Amiah inside Room 249.

Grandfather of Baby Amiah Robertson: Child's mother 'needs to pay' if responsible

Chuck Robertson says learning an arrest was made in connection to the disappearance of his eight-month-old granddaughter, Amiah Robertson, comes with mixed emotions.

"I'm ashamed to say it, but I felt relieved in a way because something is finally happening," he said.

Chuck Robertson's shame stems from the fact his daughter and Amiah's mother, Amber Robertson, has been arrested and indicted by a grand jury in connection to the baby's 2019 disappearance.

"Hate to know it was my daughter. That's my blood. I care about her and love her but if she has anything to do with this, she needs to pay for it," he said.

Chuck Robertson says his daughter has maintained her innocence to him from the very beginning.

"I would always ask and she would tell me she didn't know nothing," Chuck Robertson said. "I want to believe her, but deep down in my insides, I can't. I just can't."

Amber Robertson spoke to WRTV several times over the years, pleading for the safe return of her daughter. Now, she's facing four counts of varying degrees of neglect of a dependent.

Robert Lyons, her ex-boyfriend, is also facing the same charges. A warrant is out for his arrest. The most serious offense carries a sentence of 16 years, according to prosecutors.

Their charges are as follows:
  • Neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury — level 3 felony
  • Neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury — level 5 felony
  • Neglect of a dependent with deprivation — level 5 felony
  • Neglect of a dependent — level 6 felony
The indictment alleges Robertson knowingly placed her daughter in a dangerous situation or "cruelly confined Amiah Robertson and/or deprived (her) of necessary support" and "deprived (her) of necessary food, water or sanitary facilities." The actions resulted in serious bodily injury to the child, according to the indictment.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said if they were able to locate any remains, Robertson could face more charges.

"If she's found guilty, to know that she'll be behind bars for however long she gets, it's going to be a brand new level of loss and pain I'll have to go through," Chuck Robertson said.

Throughout the interview, Chuck Robertson held back tears when he talked about his granddaughter, thinking about what she may have gone through.

"She was a beautiful baby ... a beautiful baby. She was an amazing child. Not one time have I ever sat back and said 'Why me, why not somebody else?' because what I have felt and feel now, I would never wish on another person," he said.

Chuck Robertson says he hasn't spoken to his daughter Amber in more than a year. She was not happy about the last time he spoke to WRTV. Now that she's been arrested in connection to the disappearance of Baby Amiah, he had this to say about his daughter:

"Amber, I love you, but you made a wrong choice."

BREAKING: we just obtained court documents in the grand jury indictment of Amber Robertson AND Robert Lyons. The 2 are charged with multiple counts including neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury in the death of Amiah Robertson. Amber is in custody at this hour Robert is not.hat t
I put up a happy face simply because I despaired of charges ever coming and am HAPPY to hear they have!! GOOD!!! I think they must have decided they have done what they could to try to get enough for a murder charge and locate this tiny body and decided to go with charges that clearly there is evidence of. I doubt this wee one will ever be found and I find it so sad but at least this neglected little baby will see some justice. Those two have been free for too long!

INDIANAPOLIS — A judge has reduced bail for the mother of a baby who has been missing since March 2019.

Amber Robertson, 23, was charged in September with felony neglect after her baby, 8-month-old Amiah, had been missing for years. Her ex-boyfriend, Robert Lyons, who was originally named as a suspect in the case, is also facing neglect charges after a grand jury indictment.

Robertson's public defender asked a judge to reduced her bail so she could be with family to mourn the recent death of her mother and deliver the twins she's currently pregnant with.

Doctors have told Robertson she'll need to deliver the twins by C-section in mid-January. Robertson said she doesn't want to give birth alone while incarcerated.

The judge reduced bail from $60,000 to $40,000. Ten percent cash — or $4,000 — must be posted in order for Robertson to be released while awaiting the start of her trial.
None of Robertson's family were in court Thursday, so it's unclear if anyone will post bond.

"She doesn't deserve to be out of jail. She walked free for three and a half years knowing something about her daughter," said C.C. Hatton, an advocate for baby Amiah. "She failed to report her daughter for seven whole days as a missing person. No mother does that."

The state argued against the bond reduction, saying there was concern about Robertson being around newborn twins, plus her three other children who are all younger than 5 years old.

Robertson and Lyons' jury trial is set to begin March 6, 2023.

Wow.
Are her other children in foster care or with extended family? These two new babies certainly await the same fate. :(
Not in foster care afaik

“It’s about the Amiah case,” said Ryan Morris, who fathered a child with Robertson 15 months ago and now lives with her and two older boys. “I believe that Robert may have done something and she may know something about it and she just ain’t opened up and said anything about it.”

Judge Approves Cameras in the Court Room for Amber Robertson

A Judge has approved a media request to allow cameras in the court room for Amber Robertson’s case.

Robertson is the mother of Amiah Robertson, an 8-month-old child who went missing in March 2019 and hasn’t been found.

IMPD said Amiah was last seen with Robert Lyons at a home on the west side. Lyons was the boyfriend of Robertson, and was supposed to take Amiah to the babysitters.

Robertson faces charges of neglect of a dependent.

A judge ruled Tuesday that cameras would be allowed in the court room. Robertson’s jury trial is currently scheduled for May 22nd.

Let me guess, no reporters or cameras showed up. I mean yesterday was the 22nd.... And this in a major metropolis--Indy.

No cameras made it to the West sentencing either...

There are a handful of child cases I used to always try to come in and bump every so often. This is one. I have failed to be good about it in the last year and with the others either. Serenity. Noah. Amiah. Struggling to think of all even and that's sad.

So having a few moments and they crossed my mind again and Amiah came to mind so here I am. I think two Noahs if i recall. McIntosh and the other is from IL and dad was a lawyer and mom. Or maybe he was the McIntosh and I can't recall the other name offhand who mom and dad took from her parents. And of course Serenity. All awful cases.

So I decided to come into Amiah's, no problem recalling her name and searching and give it a bump.

And see the last post.

So whatever happened with this trial?

It's sad when interest fades or if there ever was any it disappears almost entirely by news and people. I admit I have it cross my mind ever so rarely these days sadly with life so busy and feel awful I haven't bumped them.

Even worse I don't think Amiah will ever be found. Or that there will be the amount of justice on this earth that there should be.

I hope she got some though.

Ex-boyfriend accepts plea deal in missing baby Amiah case

The ex-boyfriend of Amber Robertson has accepted a plea deal in the case of missing 8-month-old baby Amiah Robertson. He now faces up to 10 years in prison.

Robert Lyons and Amber Robertson are both charged in connection with the missing child. Baby Amiah went missing in 2019. While some of the child’s belongings were found near Eagle Creek, the girl’s remains still haven’t been found.

On Thursday, Lyons signed a plea deal where he agreed to plead guilty to one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 3 felony, in exchange for the three lesser felony charges filed against him being dismissed.

The court accepted the plea deal, which carries a sentencing range of up to 10 years in prison. A judge will determine Lyons’s exact sentence at a hearing scheduled for May 10.

The fate of baby Amiah remains unknown despite rumors swirling for years.

Amber Robertson also appeared in court on Thursday. She did not agree to a plea deal, however, and continues to be charged with four felonies related to her daughter’s disappearance.

Roberston is scheduled to go to trial on June 24.

Man indicted in baby Amiah Robertson's disappearance gets 10 years in prison

A man who pleaded guilty in the 2019 disappearance of his girlfriend’s 8-month-old daughter, Amiah Robertson, was ordered Friday to spend a decade in prison.

Marion Superior Judge Marie Kern sentenced Robert Lyons to 16 years, 10 of which will be spent in the Indiana Department of Correction for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. Judge Kerns suspended the remaining six years of his sentence and mandated he spend three years on probation.

Lyons previously entered an agreement to plead guilty to the charge in a deal that dismissed his three additional counts of neglect. Kern acknowledged the plea during Lyon's sentencing on Friday, but said the agreement doesn't hold much weight considering "we still don't know where this child is."

The sentencing brings closure to one chapter of baby Amiah Robertson’s case, which sparked a massive community search for the infant after her disappearance on March 9, 2019. The child's body, as noted by Kern, has not been found to this day.

Amber Robertson remains jailed in Marion County on numerous neglect charges. Her trial is scheduled to begin June 24.
