he older sister of 11-year-old Alfa Ousmane Barrie was tearful on the phone Tuesday morning, desperate for information after her little brother didn’t come home from his Harlem charter school on Friday.

“This was the first time this ever happened,” Fatima Diallo said about her brother, who is the youngest of six children.

Diallo and police believe Barrie may be with a friend, 13-year-old Garrett (Man Man) Warren, who’s also been missing for days. Barrie lives in the Bronx and Warren lives in Upper Manhattan, according to police.


The two boys were observed on surveillance video leaving one of their homes and then walking together at 145th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem around 6 p.m. Friday, according to the NYPD.

“We are trying to identify everybody who was with them,” said Brian Gill, deputy chief at Detective Borough Manhattan North. “We need to speak to every single person who was with them … We want to talk to their classmates. We’ve been in contact with their schools.”

The Harlem location was the last place Barrie was seen. Warren was last seen in front of his home on Saturday around 1:30 a.m., according to an NYPD missing persons report.


“There are millions of eyes and ears in our city, and we are asking all of them right now to help us find these children,” said Ruel Stephenson, assistant chief at Patrol Borough Manhattan North.

Search efforts to locate two missing New York boys have intensified as NYPD urges the public to submit tips if they have information on their whereabouts.

According to NBC New York, Alfa Barrie, 11, and Garrett Warren, 13, were seen together Friday night on security camera, at Ana’s Fish Market on 145th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, at around 6 p.m. An employee saw the boys inside the store, where they made a small purchase. The worker noted that the boys are regular customers of the shop.


Moore said the boys went out Friday night and returned to Garrett’s home in Harlem around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning for him to change clothes. She said they left again to play basketball and didn’t return.

Meanwhile, Alfa’s sister, Fatima Diallo, said she hasn’t heard from him since Friday. He attended school at Democracy Prep that day and left shortly after noon. The plan was for him to meet his 14-year-old sister, who attends the same school, and walk home together.

Alfa failed to meet his sister, which raised the initial concern that something was amiss.

“This is something he has never done. This is all new to us. We have no idea what’s going on, he’s a sweet little boy,” Diallo said. “Everything that’s happening right now, I can’t comprehend what’s going on.”

Alfa’s family received a phone call from school Friday, informing them that he left class and said he needed to use the restroom but then walked out.

Since then, NYPD said “multiple units” have been sent out to search for the boys and police are working around the clock to find them.

“We are going to search land, air and sea. Obviously, the water is right here. They are young children. We are taking every precaution. We have state-of-the-art helicopters, Harbor Unit. We’re going to use all our assets to look for these kids,” Deputy Chief Brian Gill said, according to CBS New York.

Police on Tuesday plumbed the depths of the Harlem River using sonar and drones in a grim search for two young boys.

Their families are desperate.

Fatima Diallo's 11-year-old brother Alfa Barrie left school early on Friday and never came home. Neither did 13-year-old Garrett Warren.

Police are deeply concerned about what happened to them.


Volunteers passed out flyers near a park at 143rd and Lenox, around the corner from an NYPD surveillance camera that captured the boys walking together around 6:00 p.m. Friday.

A few hours after that, someone called 911 to report two boys in the Harlem River, leading to a massive search Friday night that turned up nothing.

The boys were not reported missing until Sunday and Monday, so police didn't make the connection to that 911 call until now.

But even as they repeat their water search, they haven't ruled out the kids are still alive, possibly somewhere in the neighborhood.

Hence, the all-out hunt across two boroughs involving hundreds of cops and a plea to the public for help.

"The missing persons squad, detectives, patrol officers in Manhattan and the Bronx, the harbor unit, members of the strategic response group and other personnel are searching for these boys and there are millions of eyes and ears in our city, and we're asking all of them right now to help us find these children," said Assistant Chief Ruel Stephenson.

HARLEM - A body has been found in the area where authorities were searching for two missing boys.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Crews are investigating after the body of an unidentified male was recovered in the East River and police believe it appears to be one of two missing boys.

Several people spotted the body near the Madison Avenue Bridge where it was recovered and brought to shore.

Police said based on the body's appearance and clothing, it appears to be one of two missing boys last seen in Harlem.

He was first taken to Randall's Island and will then be taken to the medical examiners office.

The victim has not been officially identified but the NYPD had asked for the public's help on Tuesday to help find 13-year-old Garrett Warren and 11-year-old Alfa Barrie.

Both boys were last spotted this weekend and were believed to have been seen together at a park near 143rd and Lenox.

The NYPD's scuba team, drones and a helicopter are continuing to search the area for the second victim.

Police sources say the body recovered from the water may be the 13-year-old based on clothing and size.

Police divers were deployed on the suspicion that there could be a second body in the water, but no other body has been found.

Police sources say there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body that was recovered. It is unclear how the person died, but foul play is not believed at this time.

No way did two boys die in the river accidentally, more than likely anyhow unless they had a suicide pact (unlikely) or one was trying to save the other which I also think fairly unlikely.

It maybe would to me other than I have to wonder about a lifestyle that had them at their age out all night and such. I keep thinking gang, drugs, around the wrong crowd, I don't know. That doesn't mean I guess the same thing couldn't have happened but even if that was what happened, there is something more to this story. Both one would think would be old enough to know the risks of water and let's say one was suicidal, geneally when one commits such an act they don't do it with another along, they go off on their own. It's just odd. Very sad. But odd.
