SAN ANTONIO — A 10-year-old South Texas boy confessed to killing a man he says he didn't know two years ago during questioning for a separate investigation at his school, according to officials.
On April 12, the child suspect allegedly threatened to kill another student on a bus, authorities in Gonzales County say. When he was asked by school officials, authorities say, he admitted that he shot and killed a man two years ago. That confession launched an investigation by the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office.

During his interview with deputies, the boy "described in detail" how he killed 32-year-old Brandon O'Quinn Rasberry in January 2022.
According to investigators, the child's grandfather lived at the same RV Park as Rasberry. On the day of his death, the 7 year-old retrieved a pistol from the glove box of his grandfather's truck before going to Rasberry's RV and shooting him while he was sleeping. The child told investigators he didn't know the victim and the attack was unprovoked.

According to a press release from authorities, Gonzales County sheriff's deputies were able to find the gun, which had been sold to a pawn shop in Seguin. From there they were able to confirm that the weapon was used to kill the victim.
Officials said that "because of the severity of the crime," the boy was brought to a San Antonio psychiatric hospital. He has since been admitted to a detention facility in Gonzales County on a charge relating to a school bus incident. He won't be charged for Rasberry's slaying, however. Officials say that's because of how old he was when he said committed the crime; he shot the victim a week before he turned 8.

I am not going to comment. I can't even quite take this in right now. I went my whole life with never saying WTF and in two weeks or so I caved and it is common.

Was the name originally raspberry? Not a joke. Just one of many things.

Is the kid a US citizen and his parents? Next thought.

And with that and leaving it at some simple thoughts, more are churning, I do not have it in me to even take this in right now. Wow. Have to shut it down to do what I have to do tonight yet.

I know @GranndmaBear, this is shocking. And he kept the secret all this time. At the time of the murder, there was surely a lot of discussion around the rv park.

I did not look at the links and couldn't. Often it is lack of time but this time and even now I just can't go there.

So he was seven do I have that right? I get not charging as an adult, a seven year old certainly is nowhere near one and isn't one, however, I do have to wonder what seven year old does this and how they've been raised and even though the brain isn't, some children are older and have seen more than some more than age adults as well.

I just am shocked. I've packed a fair amount of crime in in a couple of days off but also a lot of hard life and work on those days off. As always, everyone me included has their opinions and emotions high in Delphi. I tried to catch up on all cases before looking at Daybelll. But I also watched a lot of Daybell the last couple of days.

Went to catch up on new posts and take a break and saw this one and hence the :thud:

Sometimes I just don't know about this world any longer.

This kid just sounds like I don't even have words... SEVEN right?? That is a baby, what like a first grader? I have grandchildren that are teenagers and every single day I think of them when they were that age and the fun memories of their innocence, etc. I don't know if it is my age or a lot of loss but I do. They STILL are as compared to a seven year old like this.

I don't dare go to into this one right now or look further. I know when not to. And it is kind of where I am at. Put a lot of crime in in last two days. And lots of life stuff I won't share with all. Just on overload I guess.

WE are still shocked by youngish teenagers doing really evil crimes. And now we have a SEVEN YEAR OLD who seems to have done it intentionally, well aware it was wrong and cover it up and who the heck would be suspecting or looking at a small child for it? WOW. Again haven't read the links but that is the picture I am getting.

I try not to avoid most because ambiivalence or ignoring helps little in this world but this one is one I am going to have to look at more fully some other day.

Judge bars 11-year-old who confessed to 2022 murder from going to Gonzales ISD campuses amid safety concerns

A judge granted a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction on Tuesday to keep an 11-year-old off all Gonzales ISD campuses and away from school events.

The child confessed to murdering a man he didn’t know in 2022, and the school argued having the child in the classroom would endanger others.

In April of last year, the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the child -- then a student at Nixon-Smiley CISD -- confessed to shooting 32-year-old Brandon O’Quinn Rasberry while he slept back in January 2022.

Because the boy was under the age of 10 at the time of the killing, Texas law prevents him from facing criminal charges.

According to documents, the boy said he shot Rasberry after he was told to "shut up" earlier in the day. Authorities said the boy found the gun in his grandfather's truck.

Attorneys with Walsh Gallegos, the firm representing Gonzales ISD, filed a lawsuit against the boy and his grandmother, seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction to ensure the child is kept out of classrooms.

An attorney representing the district, Meredith Prykryl Walker, confirmed the results of Tuesday's hearing where the judge issued an order to bar the 11-year-old boy from Gonzales ISD grounds.

“The district is pleased with the results of today’s hearing. The safety of the Gonzales ISD community continues to be at the forefront of the district’s decision making. The district will continue to advocate for all of its students," Walker said.

According to the lawsuit, the boy would pose an immediate threat to students and staff based on an alleged history of violent behavior as revealed in a psychological report conducted in May 2024. It reportedly included concerns about the boy killing a litter of puppies and destroying property, along with allegations of physical and sexual abuse.

With the report stating the child shows “significant signs of sociopathy,” the district says it acted to protect its students by asking the court not only for a restraining order but also for permission to place the boy in a secure residential treatment facility.

It seems they don't know how to deal with this. An 11 year old threatening to kill someone and admitting to killing someone two years ago when he was 9.

He has to be in secure custody, that seems obvious. It is shocking, but child murders are not unknown.

He was 7 and 10 from what I read, younger yet.

I'd agree he needs to be in a secured psychiatric facility most likely but he definitely needs help and I think his life bears looking into. Allegations of physical and sexual abuse are mentioned. So he gets into grandpa's truck (unlocked?) and gets a gun out of the glove compartment (unlocked?) and has time to go to the trailer of a man (unlocked?) who was sleeping (was this night?) and shoots him. Was this kid supervised at all? Did grandpa have custody or was he just visiting? Were the kid's prints on the gun? It was found in a pawn shop. Who pawned it? Grandpa? Did he know the grandson shot the man?

Seems to me there is a LOT more to look into here.
