NSW detectives are treating the mysterious disappearance of a businesswoman from her cliff-top mansion in Sydney’s eastern suburbs as suspicious.

Melissa Caddick left her Dover Heights home early last Friday morning and is believed to have gone for a run, but didn’t take her wallet, keys, or mobile phone.

Three days before she vanished, Australian Federal Police raided her Wallangra Road property as part of an ongoing investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

Documents obtained by the ABC reveal the 49-year-old was served court orders recently preventing her from leaving Australia or selling any of her assets.

On Friday, Detective Inspector Gretchin Atkins urged anyone in the area to check their CCTV or dashcam to help with the investigation.

“We have some serious concerns for her personal safety – she did not take any of her personal belongings,” she said.

“She hasn’t been in touch with her husband, her son, her family or any of her friends since and we’re actually appealing to anybody who has seen anything.”

Disappearance of Sydney businesswoman Melissa Caddick treated as suspicious

On Friday, Detective Inspector Gretchen Atkins urged anyone in the area to check their CCTV or dashcam to help with the investigation.

Her husband, Anthony Koletti, remained composed when he fronted the media on Friday during a public appeal for information outside Bondi Police Station.

He described her disappearance as "extremely out of character".

"Melissa is a dedicated and incredible mother, a beautiful daughter, sister and loved wife — we are asking the community to help bring Melissa home — that is all," he said, reading from a statement.

Mr Koletti said he was asleep when his wife left their home about 5:30am last Thursday.

I'm glad you guys clarified that for me. :)
Haven't caught up on all threads but did watch something on this yesterday. One has to admit this case has all the elements of things to sensationalize. Big money, lifestyles, mysterious disappearance, etc. But to my knowledge, no other remains, clothing, etc. has washed up known to be hers.

You really can't make this up, it starts to sound like a Lifetime movie.🤯

Melissa Caddick's husband didn't ask why their Sydney home was raided by police in 2020

Melissa Caddick's husband has told an inquest he had no knowledge of any fraudulent activity and didn't ask her why their house was raided by the corporate watchdog.

Ms Caddick has not been seen since November 2020, after the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and Australian Federal Police raided her home in Dover Heights, in Sydney's east.

ASIC was at the time investigating the 49-year-old over an alleged Ponzi scheme. An inquest into her suspected death has heard the alleged fraud involved between $20 million and $30 million.

Anthony Koletti told the court on Tuesday he understood his wife's work to involve financial services.

"At no point did you know about any fraudulent activity?" Counsel Assisting Jason Downing SC asked.

"That's correct," Mr Koletti replied.

While Mr Koletti agreed they shared an accountant and he saw her tax returns, he said he didn't really "pay attention" to the figures.

Mr Koletti said Ms Caddick was "obviously very shocked" when ASIC and AFP officers turned up at their Dover Heights home early on November 11, 2020.

"She seemed pretty together in the morning and as the day went on, I feel like she progressively got a bit worse," he said.

Asked whether he asked his wife anything about why she believed there was a search warrant, he said he was not worried about that at the time.

"I was under the belief she'd done nothing wrong," he told the inquest.

"It must have been quite a shock?" Mr Downing asked.

"Yes," Mr Koletti replied.

He agreed that as at the day of the raid, he believed Ms Caddick to be smart, diligent, hard-working and good at what she did.

Melissa Caddick's husband unable to continue evidence after 'confusing' questions

The husband of fraudster Melissa Caddick was too distressed to continue giving evidence at his wife's inquest after saying he couldn't understand the "confusing" questions.

Anthony Koletti returned to the witness box on today at the NSW Coroners Court but Deputy State Coroner Elizabeth Ryan asked him to step down about lunchtime as his answers were not helpful.

Earlier, Koletti told counsel assisting Jason Downing SC that on the morning of Caddick's disappearance he assumed she had gone out to do some exercise, on November 12, 2020.

"I didn't think anything of it ... she's just gone for a walk which she does every day not a problem," he told police in an interview.

In evidence Koletti agreed that his wife had no habits, her exercise regime was irregular and she mostly jogged on the treadmill by that stage.

Downing continued questioning Koletti on Wednesday about this inconsistency, asking if he was now trying to justify his answers.

"One of the accounts must not be true," Downing said.

"I'm guessing so, yes," Koletti said.

"Why are you guessing?" Downing said.

"Because your questions are confusing, the way you talk is not the way my mind works," Koletti said.

"Everyone has got a different mind you've got to understand that.

"I don't think you do.

"I've been through a lot in case you haven't noticed."

Koletti was taken to his statement but the confusion continued.

"You can read, can't you?" Downing said.

"I am so confused by your questions," Koletti responded.

Evidence then turned to where Caddick's phone was found, by whom, and when. Koletti had told police a different version to his evidence in court.

"You're just going around in circles like you were before," Koletti said.

"I can't answer these questions over and over again."

His lawyer Judy Swan then interjected saying her client was finding the process distressing, but wanted "it over".

Melissa Caddick’s severed foot could have floated to beach after 93 days under water, expert says

An ocean expert says the severed foot of missing alleged fraudster Melissa Caddick could have travelled from Sydney cliffs before washing up on the NSW South Coast months later.

An examination of goose barnacles found on the foot show it was likely floating off the NSW coastline for three to seven days before appearing on Bournda beach – 400km from Caddick’s Dover Heights mansion.

Oceanographer Dr David Griffin told the inquest into the alleged fraudster’s death it was entirely possible her body entered the water when she was last seen in November 2020, then floating close to the ocean floor in strong currents for about 93 days before resurfacing in February 2021.

“The NSW coast is the most energetic oceanographic part of Australia,” he told the inquest.

“It is highly unlikely anything can just drift along the continental shelf without getting caught or snagged.”

Griffin presented his evidence earlier than expected on Wednesday when Caddick’s husband was stood down from his second day in the witness box after saying he couldn’t understand the “confusing” questions.

Michael Koletti denies he deliberately delayed reporting wife Melissa Caddick missing

Melissa Caddick’s husband has denied playing any role in his wife’s November 2020 disappearance, telling an inquest he did not deliberately delay reporting her missing to buy time or avoid police attention.

Anthony Koletti told the Sydney inquest into the alleged fraudster’s disappearance and suspected death that he definitely did not help her vanish without a trace.

“Did you delay reporting her missing in order to give her time to try and go somewhere ... or end her own life?” counsel assisting Jason Downing SC said on Thursday. “I did not,” Koletti replied.

Downing continued: “On a night you told us you were conducting searches throughout the day ... you in fact went to smoke a joint with a friend.”

Koletti told the corner’s court he was concerned about his wife and he accepted he smoked weed to calm himself down.

Text messages exchanged with the friend were later deleted by Koletti before he handed his phone to police to assist with their inquiries, Downing told the inquest. Koletti said doing that must have had “something to do with marijuana”.

What a moron.

A joint is not an "e-cigarette".
was concerned about his wife and he accepted he smoked weed to calm himself down. What?. You deleted texts because of smoking a joint. Not deleting it is less suspicious.

Reading everything about her husband. He is a complete moron. Fake tears. Bad acting. His reactions to questions are like an angry 4th grader. "So what if I did?. What's your point?." Really?! You are so suspicious and you are too dumb to realize it. But yet you continue to lie. Badly. Like you expect to get away with it. But you're not fooling anyone at all. Whatsoever. Uh duh.

So she cut off her foot?
I don't know but I do know she had connections, wealth (even though it was stolen from others) and it is too pat for my taste. If there is one thing you can live without, it is a foot. I have a good friend who lives without a leg and you'd never know she didn't have one if you didn't know her.

Been through this previously on here I think but I don't think it any less likely than one lone foot showing up to confirm she is dead.

IF it is hers. I know they say it is. It wouldn't be the first faked death by a long shot otherwise.

It reeks imo.

I agree that it reeks, but I think it reeks of a domestic violence situation.
You mean the husband abusing her? I am drawing a blank there. In knowing this case from the start (not a great memory but recall most), I don't recall anything triggering me to think that? I may be forgetting something though. I do recall thinking she was rich and bought a "boy toy" as isn't he a lot younger than she is? Just a thought I had when first reading up on the case back when.

Just playing stupid. I don’t believe that he is that slow.

A senior NSW detective has conceded official rules on when to contact the homicide squad were not totally clear when conwoman Melissa Caddick vanished in 2020, an inquest has heard.

The long-running coronial probe is examining the circumstances leading to the 49-year-old Sydney fraudster's disappearance in November 2020 and her mindset at the time.

The inquest is hearing testimony from Detective Chief Inspector Glen Browne, who was manager of the NSW missing persons registry when Caddick vanished.

March 24, 2023

The New South Wales deputy state coroner Elizabeth Ryan has concluded that the fraudster Melissa Caddick is dead while savaging the credibility of her husband, finding he withheld information from police.

But the court but has been unable to make any definitive findings about her fate, saying suicide was a possibility.

<snip>

The coroner’s court has been exploring the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, including the adequacy of the police investigation, her psychiatric condition, and the behaviour and evidence of her husband, Anthony Koletti, who was delayed in reporting her disappearance.

Ryan concluded that Caddick is deceased. She said, among other things, Caddick would have contacted her son, whom she loved dearly, since her disappearance.

“I have concluded that Melissa Caddick is deceased,” she said. “However, a more problematic issue is whether the evidence is sufficient to enable a positive finding of how she died and how and when it happened.”

<snip>

Ryan was also highly critical of Koletti’s evidence to police and the court. She found he had information about her movements but had chosen not to disclose it.

Koletti’s various statements to police, the court and the media were inconsistent. The discrepancies remained unexplained.

She said his evidence gave rise to “strong suspicion” that he knew more about her movements between 11 November, the day of the raid on their home, and 13 November, when he reported her missing.

“I have concluded that in the period [immediately before he reported her missing] he had some awareness of Ms Caddick’s movements over the previous two days, but he chose not to disclose it,” Ryan said.

She said Koletti’s lack of candour was “regrettable”.

“He did not give a full and frank account to the court of what happened,” the coroner found.
