A search is underway on the Pleasanton Ridge for 37-year-old Philip Kreycik, who was reported missing by his wife Saturday after he failed to return from a run in the hills near the Moller Ranch staging area in Pleasanton.

Kreycik parked his vehicle at the staging area around 11 a.m. Saturday and told his wife he was going for a one-hour run in the East Bay Regional Park.

Kreycik is an avid long-distance runner with no known health conditions.

An extensive search is being conducted in the surrounding area. Personnel from the Pleasanton Police Department, East Bay Regional Park Police, Alameda County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol are utilizing drones, fixed wing aircraft, off-road vehicles and search and rescue teams to locate Kreycik.

An extensive search is underway on Sunday in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, where authorities are looking for a man who didn't return from a run Saturday in the hills.

Philip Kreycik, 37, parked his car near the Moller Ranch staging area about 11 a.m. and told his wife he was going for an hourlong run in the East Bay Regional Park, Pleasanton police said.

Kreycik's wife reported him missing at 2 p.m. Saturday. An avid runner with no known health conditions, Kreycik is described as White, with a thin build and brown hair and eyes. He is presumed to be wearing running attire.

Police resume official search for missing Berkeley runner Philip Kreycik​

The Pleasanton Police Department said Friday the official search for a Bay Area man whose bewildering disappearance occurred nearly three weeks ago is resuming.

The search was called off two weeks ago, though volunteers have continued to patrol the area through the help of a Facebook group with more than 12,000 members. But today Pleasanton police said they are deploying search teams once more along with members from the Alameda County Sheriff's Department.

"Tomorrow, members will return to where Philip intended to run and comb select areas in hopes of bringing him home," police said in a statement posted on Twitter. "We will provide an update after the search is complete."

The police department said the on-the-ground search comes after reviewing the GPS coordinates of those places that have been covered and determining new areas to search.

"They’re searching higher in Tehan Canyon, just to explore a new area," said Sgt. Marty Billdt, a Public Information Officer with the police department. "They want to double check in the lower probability areas where he could have possibly gone."

A renewed search for a missing Berkeley father of two yielded no new information Saturday, three weeks after the ultra-marathon athlete disappeared while on a run in the East Bay hills.

Search and rescue teams rappelled into steep ravines and cut through tough terrain Saturday hoping a renewed search would provide closure for Philip Kreycik’s family and friends.

“No luck today,” said Pleasanton police Lt. Chris Niederhaus, as searchers filed back to the search command center at a local high school mid-afternoon. “No new leads today, no new evidence today.”

Using GPS data from the grid searched conducted by search and rescue teams, officials would the information to determine whether there are others areas to search, Niederhaus said. As of Saturday afternoon, no additional searches were scheduled by authorities.

UPDATE: Pleasanton Police Announce Body Found Matching Description of Missing Jogger Philip Kreycik​

Authorities announced Tuesday that a body matching the description of missing jogger Philip Kreycik was found in the Pleasanton park where he had disappeared on July 10.

Pleasanton police said a volunteer found the body Tuesday shortly after 2:30 p.m. about 250 yards off of a game trail in a remote area of the park.

Officials said that they were unable to positively identify the body on Tuesday, but offered their condolences to the family in the wake of the discovery. The Alameda County Coroner would be determining a positive identity and determining cause of death, authorities said.

“We’re very heartbroken here today. Everything is looking likely to see that it was Phillip who was found on that ridge,” said Sgt. Ray Kelly with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. “We wanted to bring him home alive and safe, so this is disappointing.”

Authorities said officers and detectives from both the Pleasanton Police Department and the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department were at the scene Tuesday afternoon, investigating and recovering any pertinent evidence.

“We’ll treat this case with the upmost investigative integrity,” Kelly continued. “His family wants to know how and why this happened, and they deserve those answers.”

Kelly confirmed that the citizen volunteer came across the human remains in a remote part of the park, well away from any proper hiking or running trails approximately a quarter mile outside of Kreycik’s intended route.

“It appears from reports I received is that this area is not easy to get to,” said Kelly. “It’s not something someone would come across.”

It's just important to realize that just because an agency says they have thoroughly searched the area, covered it 100% and looked anywhere a person could possibly be and still didn't find them, doesn't mean they're not there.

Missing runner case: Autopsy results rule out traumatic injury as a cause of death​

Preliminary autopsy results for the Berkeley man whose body was found Tuesday after weeks of searching do not show any indication of trauma, all but confirming that Philip Kreycik succumbed to a medical emergency, possibly due to the heat, officials said Friday.

While toxicology results are still pending, the initial findings can rule out some of the theorized causes of death that tied back to physical wounds: There were no debilitating head injuries, no broken bones, no signs of a mountain lion attack, said Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ray Kelly.

“None of those apply,” Kelly said. “It looks to us like he sat down in the shade under a tree, and that during that time he had some type of medical event.”
