Metro investigating report of missing 2-year-old near Paradise and Twain

Metro police are investigating a missing child case that was reported Wednesday in the area of Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

Two-year-old Amari Nicholson was reported missing near the 3600 block of Paradise Road. The area is just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

He was last seen around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the child may be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance.

Officers and detectives are following any leads or tips that might lead to the location of the child.

“We are aware of citizens providing tips to news outlets informing that officers have located a body in a dumpster, but this information is inaccurate,” according to a Metro statement. “Officers have been looking into nearby trash containers as a precaution.”

MISSING: Toddler boy vanishes amid rumors of a body found in nearby dumpster

Authorities in Nevada are searching for a 3-year-old boy who reportedly vanished on Wednesday.

In a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas police said they were alerted to a child who vanished from the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue. Officers reportedly searched nearby dumpsters but found no evidence.

While the police’s statement did not name the missing child, KVVU reported that the toddler’s name is Amari Nicholson.

The news outlet reported that rumors of a body being found in a dumpster in the vicinity where Nicholson vanished were unfounded.

Huge lack of details. Not any about how he was dressed, whether alone or with someone, how he came to be there, etc. (unless I missed them but I think I read all). Did he disappear from his own home or take off while on an outing with someone, they turned around and he was missing? This is a two year old (although one article says 3, that's media for ya), someone would typically know how he was dressed, generally a parent...

fyi … that location is NOT residential rather it's where the convention center is located

Thanks. I was going to look it up but was finishing something else and had not gotten to it yet. I know it said it was close to the strip but one never knows with media how close is close and I know there is some residential within a close range, or used to be.

Is the severe emotional distress because he was having a meltdown and got away from the parents? I can’t quite figure this out.
It is not an Amber Alert so I think it is just what they are doing lately to be able to get it into the news and public and put out some type of alert. I do admit the emotional distress is a bit different. However, we are always seeing lately the alway stating possibly in need of medical attention, likely in danger, etc., not only with children but adults too.

This case is extremely vague. Not a direction of the boy, no clothing, no vehicle, no suspected abductor, no circumstances, absolutely nothing. Even in Vegas, a two year old on his own is going to be noticed.

There’s conflicting stories from family members.

Amari’s father, Jyrgio Hayes, lives in the Reno area. He doesn’t have much contact with Amari other than a visit in person last year in Henderson and several video calls.

“I don’t know where my son is. If anybody does I just hope they can help me, just tell us where he is,” Hayes said.

He heard Amari’s mother was in Colorado taking care of her mother and Amari was in Las Vegas with her current boyfriend.

On Facebook Amari’s mother, Tayler Nicholson, left a comment that said her boyfriend had Amari. She said she was in Colorado and claimed Hayes’s sister took Amari.

“I don’t know who has him. All I’m hearing is that the boyfriend said that my sister picked him up- my sister did not pick him up. The police searched my sister’s house and they know where she’s at- they know where all my family members are at and they know I don’t have my son. They traced me by my phone, they can trace him by whoever he was with. I’m gonna let them do their job,” Hayes said.

Not reported for 9 hours? And this does appear to be a residential location NEAR the strip / convention area.

Amari Nicholson was last seen around 6 a.m. on the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.

The report was initially taken as a kidnapping at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Metro dispatch logs.

“Officers and detectives have been following any leads or tips which may lead to the location of the child,” police said in a Thursday morning statement.

Police said they had searched throughout the area, including in nearby dumpsters, and found nothing

Oh. Another "mom's boyfriend". Dang it.

Why would this poor boy be in severe emotional distress if he was really picked up by a family member?

This reminds me of that case several months back where the guy was said to have him, he had him with a female "sitter" and it was claimed she took him back to the "mother" who said he was not returned to her. I can't think of the name but it did not turn out well if I recall--there were a rash of children missing around that time, one after the other it seemed. :(

Yep. King. Still hasn't been found.

I'm assuming the aunt leading the pleas and offering the reward is not the same aunt being accused of taking Amari... Also, if "mommy and daddy are the only people he knows", why would you let him go with someone "claiming to be his aunt". Also, what another convoluted mess this is.

Family of missing two-year-old pleads for his safe return

The family of Amari Nicholson, the two-year-old who went missing in Las Vegas, is pleading for his return.

He was last seen near Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

A short time ago, Amari’s aunt told 8 News Now they are increasing the reward to $30,000 as the search for the 2-year-old continues.

He went missing from the Emerald Suites two days ago.

According to Amari’s mom, Tayler Nicholson, the 2-year-old taken from the apartment complex on Twain Avenue and Paradise Road two days ago. When he went missing, she says she was in Colorado helping her mother who was recently injured.

Nicholson’s boyfriend, Terrell Rhodes, who also spoke with 8 News Now, says he was watching Amari, but he says someone claiming to be the toddler’s aunt came and took the child.

“He is a helpless two-year-old. He is tiny. He can’t fight back. He doesn’t know where he is at,” said Tayler. “He doesn’t know where mommy and daddy are because we are the only two people that he knows. He needs medicine he is scared.”

Amari’s father, Jyrgio Hayes, lives in Reno. 8 News Now spoke to his sisters in California, who are putting up the reward.

They say no one knows where Amari is, and according to them, nobody from the family has him.

They tell 8 News Now they cannot get in contact with Amari’s mother, and they are worried.

“We don’t know anything about the last couple of days that Amari was seen and the mother is not helping us at all and we are trying to work with the police, but because of this false narrative, the police are not able to help either because there is no search, no amber alert,” said Amari’s aunt Yolanda Everett.

On Friday afternoon, Metro police said they are still looking into the disappearance and need information from the public.

Both Amari’s mother and aunt say they are putting together search teams.

If you have any information you are asked to call Metro.
