OR MICHAEL BRYSON: Missing from Hobo Camp, Lane Co, OR - 5 Aug 2020 - Age 27

DORENA, Ore. -- Search efforts have grown to find 27-year-old Michael Bryson who went missing early Wednesday morning.

Bryson was camping at the Hobo Camp Campground with friends last week when he wandered away from the site Wednesday morning and that was the last time he was seen.

The search is not isolated to just the campground and surrounding areas. Friends have deployed into cities all over western Oregon looking for any leads that could point them to where he might be.

His family said the longest they've ever gone without hearing from him is two days.

"It's very rare that five days in he would not have reached out to mom, dad, or sister," his uncle said.

The effort to find Bryson has grown beyond just those who knew him.

A facebook group with more than 2,000 members is dedicated to finding the young man.

The man's dad said Bryson doesn't know a stranger. He said his son was kind and friendly to everyone he met. He said he hopes that's the energy that brings him home.

A $10,000 reward is available for any information leading to his discovery, all which was donated to fuel efforts to find him.

Without jumping to conclusions or making presumptions... I can't help but to speculate if hallucinogenics played a role at this party. IMO it could explain the sudden change of mood and him being so easily persuaded by his negative thoughts. I only mention this because it gives me hope. I would think that, after a night like that, one would need to sleep it off a while. This makes me hopeful that he is just sleeping under a tree somewhere :(... Maybe wandered a little too far off the path.. I really hope it's something so silly...
That is certainly a possibility. But, it's been a week now. He needs to be found under that tree ASAP! Temperatures are going into the triple digits this weekend and that's NOT good for a person who hasn't been eating! :praying:

yes. It is reminding me a lot of the guy that went missing from a music festival and the environment where they were camping. I can't remember his name now.

@GrandmaBear Meant to answer another of your questions. I don't think there is an official SAR team there anymore, either. I can't figure out why not? Oregon is known for its excellent SAR teams that search for lost hikers. Maybe there are teams up there and they haven't been mentioned?
There are a couple of comments regarding that but I want to be careful since you know the family. I guess it is nothing bad but some said that they feel LE knows that the stories don't add up so their focus is elsewhere ...

I did notice right off in reading the page (and I have read a TON of it and still doing so) that the search seems to be volunteers and the page asking for volunteers and my first thought was generally LE does not like volunteers without explicit directions and supervision. A couple of searchers said they went up there and there was no one to tell them what had been searched or where they could search. Usually also LE in most cases WON'T want individuals going out because they can then have another person lost or injured. I mean seriously there are people on there talking as if they searched alone in the woods, LE generally never wants that.

And yeah, I don't know your state personally but just knowing it is mountains and streams and a lot of countryside and greenery and forests, with hikers, etc., I would imagine you have good SAR teams. It sounds like it was days before dogs came in and it also sounds like everything has been done by family and friends asking for help and not LE. Even the dogs and heat seeking drones?

It is pretty clear there is no marked planned methodical search by LE. Nothing gridded, etc.?

I am not accusing anyone but it does appear LE either has stopped searching or has a reason they are not searching and the focus is elsewhere. Another remark by someone who claimed to ask LE said LE said they were sort on manpower and busy with protests. The same poster said he saw cops that same day in town doing nothing. But couldn't LE bring in SAR, etc. and more?

I know you know more than I about the area and of course the people and the case, I am just sharing what I read just in case with work and all you have not had time to go through all of what I have been reading through on the page, I have been at it since this morning through almost every remark under every post. I am sitting here on a very gray day with time to do just that, NOT that I should not be getting something else done lol.

True... I didn't count the days, I guess that would have been a good start.. but yea a week is a little too long to sleep it off. Why didn't anyone go after him😩? Hindsight is 20/20, I'm not blaming any of them.. Now I'm left with wondering if he caught a ride with someone...

It is truly baffling because LE are not SAR. Michael didn't go missing in the county where I live, but our county has an excellent SAR team. I wonder if Lane County reached out to them that they might help? I don't know. I don't get it at all.

I like any scenario that gives hope. That's why I was hoping he actually took off with someone of his own accord. It's been over a week though, I hope he knows how to survive if he is in the forest.

ETA: Sorry--I see this was already said.

Kevin Graves?

The difference would be that Michael has no history of mental illness whatsoever.
yes. that's the one.
One doesn't have to be mentally ill to have a bad reaction to a weekend of partying, which I think we can all agree was happening. One might have a bad reaction especially if they had a low tolerance from it not being a familiar thing to their system. It seems that anything is possible with what happened to him in this case.

That's what throws me as well. Even if they think foul play, they will search. They did for Gannon, they did for Suzanne Morphew, etc. Look at how many days that girl near Seattle was searched for recently? Areas differ I guess, but it sure is hard to understand when we see it in one state or case and not in another. I remember being so upset over Serenity Dennard, I won't go into it but I felt it was like within no time at all, no reason to search... Once it got someone behind it and more attention, then there were searches. Or how about Vanessa Guillen, only when the family got some "clout" behind them and enough attention on her missing and, I should add, complaints about the base...

To not sidetrack further, I just mean yeah, I don't get it. On one hand, hopefully that means they know something we don't but on the other hand it is worrisome that does it mean it is just no priority to LE?

Gotcha. The good news is that Michael would be able to think straighter once the chemicals wore off, whereas someone with a mental episode might not be able to help themselves survive as easily.

C'mon - let's find him! :praying:

I did a deeper dive and saw one of his friends mention on their own FB page that SAR was out there yesterday and appeared to be doing something. I'm not sure what was meant by it, though.

I am a bit overstuffed to remember precisely from reading but I think I read cadaver dogs were out yesterday and maybe that is SAR? I also know I read at one point that it was too late for other types of dogs that scent to track only lasts about three days and none were used in that time period so too late for those. Of course, these are just people posting, it certainly does not mean it is fact that none were used...?

Here's the video in case someone else gets a chance and wants to watch it before I can. Michael's parents are on it. Don't know if I can bare to see them in this kind of pain.

So, I watched the entire video & it is heartbreaking. Per Michael's parents he struggled with alcohol as well as drugs in the past. As far as they knew it wasn't an issue now.

They also mentioned Michael had been struggling recently with trying to figure out where he fit in.

This is MOO, could his sexuality have caused an issue for others on the morning he supposedly walked away from the bus? Did he offend someone by just being who he is? Something triggered his face to go blank and feel a need to walk away.

I didn't see that post and I haven't heard anything about the dogs.

Personally I think it was a chemical altered state of mind and lack of sleep. And did they eat much?

His parents are really really nice people. I know everybody keeps saying that, but it's true. I met them when all of our kids were in Cub Scouts. My son knows Michael as they are close to the same age. I also watched the video tonight and to see them in that kind of pain was unbearable.

In the video they mentioned that he didn't get in the news quickly because they said that it wasn't sensationalized graphic enough for a story! They said it would always take a back seat to the riots and the protesters. Really? That's what we've come to where even newscasters don't care about their own local people?

thankfully he's been in the local news the last couple of days but come on!

BTW, In the video Parrish mentions that his brother-in-law is part of EPD. EPD is the Eugene Police Department. That made me feel better to know that he has somebody in law enforcement that he can talk to about the process.

Only sharing with you in case you have not had a chance but his mom posted an hour or so ago on the FB page. Heartbreaking. She said someone of the number of people must know something and to please tell her (paraphrasing). I am in the midst of watching the video now, I should have watched it first but I am only doing so now. I feel her heartbreak, the heartbreak of both parents actually. I have been reading the FB page basically all day.

Not commenting nor did I join. Just reading all the info. I hope they get answers and that he is found safe.

2 days ago many people seemed convinced he was in town/Eugene... There seemed to be some legitimate sightings and they felt he was only coming out at night. from what was said in these sightings.

So perhaps there is some hope.

The main reason I wanted to start a thread about Michael is that there are now drones covering the area. We can look them over and see if there's anything we might see that could be Michael. We've been told it's easier to see on a TV screen, if you have the ability to watch that way. Also, there is a discussion about these videos on Michael's missing FB page:

Links to the drone videos so far:

Watched quite a bit of the drone footage... This area has some questionable figures that are difficult to make out. Any thoughts?
