Man Accused of Dismembering Woman Had Surgical Skills

The remains of a woman and her child were found near Gilgo Beach on Long Island. Prosecutors accused Andrew Dykes, the father of the child, who had worked in Army clinics, in the woman’s murder.

When investigators found the bodies of a mother and toddler near a serial killer’s Long Island dumping ground in 2011, they began investigating the pair as part of the Gilgo Beach case.
They referred to the mother as Jane Doe No. 3, or “Peaches,” after a tattoo on her torso and for years sought to identify both bodies through DNA and other methods. They finally identified them as Tanya Denise Jackson, 26, and her daughter Tatiana Marie, 2.
The authorities now say the cases do not appear to be linked to the Gilgo killings, in which Rex Heuermann, a local architectural consultant, stands accused. Rather, Long Island prosecutors have accused a Florida man, Andrew Dykes, 66, of killing Ms. Jackson.
On Thursday, at Mr. Dykes’s arraignment on a charge of murdering Ms. Jackson, prosecutors described what they said were his gruesome methods.
They said Mr. Dykes, a surgical assistant in the military, apparently used his expertise to dismember Ms. Jackson’s body and dispose of the remains in separate locations on Long Island to hide their affair from his wife. His job left him with “the experience to dismember,” said Ania Pulaski, an assistant district attorney with Nassau County.
In court on Thursday morning, Mr. Dykes denied the charges.
“Not guilty,” he said in a husky voice, his gray-stubbled head hung low.

That little girl would be graduating.

Not going to link a video I just came across as I haven't watched it but the headline is that this trial is to be ready to begin by Labor Day and is set for after Labor Day. Josh Zeman is one of the two people on the video so I'm sure it's likely accurate. FINALLY. Of course this is an SK case and wouldn't be surprised if it ends up delayed more than once but I guess we shall see. At least there is the first trial date set.

So watching episode 3. Nothing to report on episode 2.

In episode 3 they discuss prior murders that may have been done by him.

A dead body was found in the woods near where his daughter had been going to camp.

They are also investigating murders in Vegas and Atlantic City. They are also looking at other places Heuerman has been.

They are also guessing at how he tortured the girls, based on evidence. That gave me the willies.

RH was doing murders back in 1994. That's before he married Asa.

They also show Dennis Rader's daughter talking to RH's daughter. Rader's daughter knows what RH's daughter is going through.

RH's daughter made those drawings, if true, that is strong evidence that she saw some things.

Part 3 was the end. Efferdently, Asa is selling the house and moving south. She'll return for the trial.

I'm very curious as to how much she will get for it.

Heuermann back in court on Tuesday.

Alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann contacted dozens of sex workers hundreds of times, prosecutors say

Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann allegedly used burner phones to contact dozens of sex workers more than 500 times up until the months before his arrest, according to a new court filing.

The alleged contacts took place over the course of two years, according to the court filing, which is a prosecution response to defense efforts to suppress evidence.

Search history shows "an absence of mistake," expert says

Heuermann also allegedly conducted thousands of internet searches for "hardcore violent pornography" and "images of bruised and impaled women," along with more than 100 searches about serial killers and the Gilgo investigation itself.

Prosecutors say it's evidence Heuermann is a sexual sadist.

Former prosecutor Vinoo Varghese calls it damaging evidence that is likely to be allowed.

"These show an absence of mistake, that he was using and making these calls, and learning about how to torture people in order to perform these acts upon his victims. So the prosecution's argument is that these are relevant acts," Varghese said. "It is also very likely that the prosecution feels that they have an extremely very strong case and are not offering anything short of life in prison."

Trial may start after Labor Day

Heuermann is charged with seven murders going back decades.

In January, the defense filed motions challenging much of the evidence, claiming that a single hair is all that allegedly links Heuermann to victim Sandra Costilla. Prosecutors say the case doesn't rely on a single hair, but rather a pattern across the victims. That pattern, according to prosecutors, includes decades-old articles about the murders he allegedly stored in pristine condition. Prosecutors say they have more than 150 potential witnesses to call when and if the case goes to trial.

The defense has said it is planning for a trial, and not a plea. CBS News New York has reached out to Heuermann's defense attorney for comment on this most recent filing, but we have not yet heard back.

The judge is set to rule on all issues on March 17, when Heuermann will be back in court. The judge is pressing for a trial right after Labor Day.

Let’s hope this case gets underway this year! My goodness, it’s taking forever. There must be mountains and mountains of evidence.

Rex Heuermann, the man charged with seven of the Gilgo Beach murders that gripped Long Island, New York, is expected to plead guilty next month

He’s expected to enter the guilty plea in the serial killings April 8, according to a source familiar with the matter. Court records show an appearance scheduled for that day.
