Investigators say the mother had legal custody at the time they left California, but may have left the state with the child due to a social services investigation. However, investigators in Los Angeles, such as Lt. David Kearney of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, say no criminal charges will be pursued.

The child was returned to mom, and that’s the end of it. They closed their case in California, and we are not filing any criminal charges against the mom.

“She was taken into protective custody on Tuesday, and then on Thursday, there was a court hearing," Kearney added. "The judge basically ruled that the daughter goes back to mom.”

He swam fully clothed for over half a mile??? They caught up with him in a boat but he gave another name so they let him carry on swimming???? Fully clothed wasn't just a bit suspicious to them?

"Immediately after the shooting, Ellis drove to nearby South Beach Park, abandoned his car, went into the ocean fully clothed and swam about 900 yards offshore, Currey added.

He said local fire department rescue services personnel drove out to Ellis via boat after they got a concerned call from a woman on the beach.

Currey said rescuers determined that Ellis did not need to be rescued, that he did not know he was a suspect in the killings and that he gave officials a different name when he was approached.

Authorities are searching for Ellis by boat, and it is possible that he drowned, the police chief added.

Ellis is about 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 200 pounds. Multiple firearms were recovered from his home."

According to a search warrant, detectives searched the home of a man they said knew the victim and gave inconsistent statements to investigators.

MILWAUKEE —
A search warrant affidavit obtained by WISN 12 News revealed the woman found dead at a home near 37th Street and Townsend Ave. had been stabbed 107 times and appeared to have been "deceased for several days."
The affidavit said Milwaukee Police detectives learned of the discovery March 13, just after 4:15 p.m.

According to the document, investigators initially believed the victim, Janie Pendleton, had "suffered upwards of 20 stab [wounds] throughout her body."
During an autopsy, detectives learned more specific details about the death.
"Detectives observed a distinct shoe pattern on Pendleton's right forearm," Det. Michael Braunreiter wrote in the affidavit. He said the doctor performing the autopsy reported Pendleton, 41, "suffered a total of 107 stab wounds and ruled her death a homicide."
The search warrant, signed by Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Williams Sosnay, granted detectives permission to search the home of a man investigators said knew Pendleton and gave inconsistent statements to detectives.
Despite that knowledge and information, the page reserved for investigators to list what they found had one brief sentence.
"No evidence obtained."

Quadruple amputee, professional cornhole player faces murder charges

  • A quadruple amputee professional cornhole player has been charged with murder and related offenses over a fatal Charles County shooting on March 22, 2026.
  • Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, Md., was arrested in Charlottesville, Va., and arraigned in Charles County for the fatal shooting of 27‑year‑old Bradrick Michael Wells.
  • Webber was arrested at a Virginia hospital and faces first- and second-degree murder charges as he awaits extradition to Charles County.
LA PLATA, Md. - A professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee has been formally charged with murder and multiple related offenses in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred in Charles County on March 22, 2026.

What we know:

Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, Md., was arraigned in the District Court of Maryland for Charles County after being located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and arrested following the fatal shooting of 27‑year‑old Bradrick Michael Wells, according to court documents.

According to the statement of charges filed by Det. M. Bigelow of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton Webber picked up two witnesses from work in a vehicle, with Bradrick Wells already in the front passenger seat. The documents state that, while driving, an argument broke out between Webber and Wells.

The witnesses, identified in the charging documents as W1 and W2, told police that Webber pulled out a firearm and shot Wells twice in the head during the argument. The statement of charges says Webber then pulled the vehicle over and asked the passengers to remove Wells from the car, which they refused.

The two witnesses exited the vehicle and flagged down a police officer, the documents state, while Webber drove off with Wells still inside the car. According to the filing, around 12:41 a.m. on March 23, a resident at 10115 Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall discovered Wells’ body on the side of the road.

The statement of charges notes that both W1 and W2 positively identified Webber as the shooter and Wells as the victim, providing the basis for the murder and assault charges currently pending in Charles County District Court.

What we don't know:

Police have not explained how Webber was able to drive a car or fire a weapon.

The backstory:

Webber underwent quadruple amputation as a baby after a blood infection, according to reports. He's a professional cornhole player in the American Cornhole League (ACL).

I heard about this on the news yesterday and I was shocked! This guy has overcome so much and now he’s a murderer? Why?

107 times. Well that indicates rage, personal. Try making the same motion 107 times. She was probably dead and they kept stabbing her. Then not to be found for days. It's horrific and sad.
