‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Do you think the Sheriff is doing well? I have no idea what party he's associated with.
I don't know. I just don't think it helps.

I'm undecided and I've watched from the start, I have no idea of party PLUS sheriff's races aren't always so much about political party as they are about infighting.... How do you go to oust one sheriff when your employer and endorse another and if that one doesn't make it...

It just does not help. I certainly am not talking major politics.

I've watched from the start and it all seems to stem from just a few... Do I think he's been perfect? Probably not. But keep in mind you are talking about if feds are better the feds Trump sent and we know you don't like him... Would I want politics in a case of mine?? NO if a cared for family member was dead or missing.

He was so open when on w/Banfield, mostly, did hold some facts as they should, and some others right in the beginning until they all started screwing him over... Imo.

I'm far more mad at news types than the sheriff. But one can't stop a rolling thing that I think was intentionally started.

Also Banfield (and others) are no friends of Savanna as she claimed.... That's not a FRIEND or hI have a a different definition of a friend.

In fact it almost makes me lean towards sometimes this "kidnapping" relates to the industry...

You can think as you will, of course, but what does it help to carry such forward when news isn't even reliable...? How does it help?

I'm absolutely NOT saying the sheriff has done well, I honestly do not know, but I do know politics and b.s. in such departments and orgs and news.

I'm simply not going there or adding to it.

Like the idiots out there making $$ off bashing that or saying this or that, ALL of them, the news. Some are cheap, lazy and just steal from others. I don't buy anything that easily.

I'm expressing opinions on a private crime board. What I say doesn’t affect the actual case.

I disagree on it being private. This is not a private thread. Anyone online at all can read on it. Anytime.

But like Epstein and the Basement, yah, those you have to sign in and be a member...

But this one is not private.

Maybe you feel that way because there aren't a ton of subscribers but just look at the viewers sometimes who won't sign up or comment...

But I do get what you mean. I kind of feel that way too if I feel for instance if a parent is guilty in a missing child case, that there just aren't that many commenting here but that's a LOT different than saying things that are being said outright as fact that is going with well I'd say a flow...

Even if I think someone guilty in case, I never got 100 percent either or present it as fact.

I don't know.

I do know you are wrong on thinking this is private here????????????????????????

My opinions on the Sheriff, are exactly that. I never accused him of being part of the crime, just incompetence.

You know, the longer this goes the more I wonder about the sheriff. He certainly doesn't have people lining up to be the president of his fan club. But even with FBI involvement, this case is barely off of square one. I think there's a real issue with motive and evidence, all around.

To be fair, we really don't know where the FBI is on it because they don't release what they are doing.
Motive is definitely an issue and evidence might have been lost with lack of experience.

This is from 6 days ago. It names a suspect, take it for what you want. I am not advocating his conclusion. It's just analyzing his thought process.

No response I see to the fact this thread is not private nor is this site? Because neither is true.

Anyhow, here is Entin's latest and it starts out with the people of Tucson concerned with all resources of the sheriff and all LE resources being put to one case and concern about attn to other crimes. Just in case anyone forgets, it's certainly not the only case in Tucson or Pima County. I'll defer to those that live there as to opinions about the sheriff or their force, and to their voters.

A lot more on it as well of course since he needs to have his full show each day and remarks about most pulling out now... He even mentions Iran. It's just one breaking news story away from him as well leaving, you know how that goes, even though he told all he'd go nowhere.

Take it for what it's worth. In this case, I'm not sure I think it bad for the family, case and area to have a little less manic attn on it.

By the way I have an opinion of the sheriff in my county too, do you think yours would be as informed as mine or mine of yours in your country? Doubtful don't you think? And who'd be better informed? Just asking.

I will say an interesting bit about a certain type of polygraph for the C I A lol... Not really relevant to the case as most isn't lately, but interesting nevertheless...

Well his guest feels it relates to SG for solid reasons... I mean she or anyone could be wrong of course but her reasoning is fairly solid... The talk about polygraphs was interesting even though not related really to the case or helpful that way...

FOR THE RECORD, at the end of this video, he answers about the woman yelling out a car window three miles away and he said a BOLO did go out on that and it was cleared as not being related to Nancy, and the driver talked to, etc.

Go figure right...???

Not suprised one bit.

Who is it from? And the Part 3 one as well. I'm kind of getting where I'm not giving creators or news "clicks" on this case and it takes a click to find out. And from where does it pull its thoughts and from whom?

Might help at least for some if you say by who as to who produced it. I might not always but I try to like say Entin's latest or it's obvious who from, etc.

I don't like what media is doing and had done with and to this case. Some anyhow.
