‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

The FBI took that. Before that didn't LE take the sister and husband's car for swabbing?
It was said so... But now with so many other false claims, I wonder but yes, that was said. IF they did, I don't think it would be unusual as the last person to see Nancy just to help clear them even and ascertain there was none of Nancy's blood in their car. Of course her DNA could be in it, because she rode with one of them.

They do have to look at and clear the family in such a situation. It's not unusual.

I have just about lost patience with this case now as things are just going round and round in a never ending circle.
I've gotten that way before now even. I'm being pretty selective about how much I watch and where it was. If it starts out with regurgitation past a minute if I check something out, I am clicking out.

Some I won't even look at any longer. CBS is absolutely worthless, nothing but rerun stuff, they must get nothing of their own on their own. TMZ well nope, not a fan. Etc. FOX is doing okay, NBC was okay today and they are Savanna's channel. I have trusted ones I will always watch, and I will watch Entin yet although I'm not entirely pleased with his behavior, Megyn I will thus far, Banfield forget it.

Anyhow, yeah. I will look at the couple on the ground that I know of just because they are THERE.

But I'm tired of it. I care of course, but I'm sick of it.

Everyone keeps saying well look how long Kohberger took and all along they were working on it. I don't think that one is a fair comparison, nor is Tepe. For one, there was no one missing in either.

I think they are working hard on it, but not sure believe they have anything much. Two raids, several detainments, not a single arrest...

Does anyone have a way to search for an old flight on Flight Radar? I saw a post on X days ago but can't find it now. I'm looking for a private plane that departed Tucson for Mexico (Puerto Vallarta?) sometime between 4 - 5 a.m. on February 1.
Gigi of Pretty Lies might know. They follow various flight stuff, not sure about historical but she might... I don't suppose you watch her though.

I have a friend that follows it, there are I think a few sites of such, but I haven't talked to her in some time. I'd ask otherwise. Maybe try googling on how to find historical flights?

I was going to try with a free 7 day trial but I can only go back 7 days. You need a “silver” level subscription to go back 90 days.

I'm always interested in his take. Most people really like him. He doesn't push his channel hard, and he's not on all of the time, and only on certain cases. Makes me think more of him actually.

I think he may have made it a day or two ago but put it up today.

It's worth watching imo. Under 20 minutes. And he's sane, and not a newscaster or in the crazy hype. It is only his opinion based on what we have.

For one thing he points out the backpack is open. It takes me a minute to see that he's right but he is, he slows things and shows them and zooms in, etc.. And that what is sticking out of it is a tarp he thinks. There are a few very good observations. While I don't agree with all, I agree with most of it, and nothing crazy in it.

@Cousin Dupree I'm going to ask you to watch it and if you would, please watch the ad for his sponsor and listen to it instead of skipping over it. I'm not saying you need the product but I think you do need to do what the product does, for yourself. Jmo. Many do. It's the wisest way.

Now, I heard a theory tonight that I kind of perfected a bit that I think isn't a bad one. Let's just say that someone paid the guy in the video to kill Nancy. Whether for revenge, someone would benefit if she died (and I am not accusing anyone, I have been disgusted with people out there who are stuck on the family ever since Banfield pulled her sh*t), or for ransom even for themselves and I'm just going to give an example. Someone offers him $50K and says if he does this, then he will pay him when he collects or he pays him half and has the money, something on that order. Anyhow the guy is getting paid, a lot of money for him. Now he goes to do it and Nancy begs him not to kill her and says I have a daughter who will pay you big time if you just don't kill me...? And he realizes the $50K is paltry and he can do this himself and she's suggesting it....

Now that actually makes as much sense as any theory I've heard.

There are some problems with it like Nancy would know the personal numbers for him to contact the family instead of the media... But maybe he laid off her and she died anyhow from the injury he gave her before she pled for this, or from lack of medicine... Before it could be acted pm and he didn't have the info to contact them directly...

It's a thought anyhow. I'm not sold on it. But watch Dr. G. and how he thinks this guy did not know the home well but was not there to rob, etc. and then come back and think about this theory... It's not the worst one in this make no sense case. It's not his theory, it's one I saw in a chat. Then I watched his show and just kind of tried to make what he thought work with that theory... His theory isn't bad either...

Finally found it. I'm not saying I think it's connected, but definitely a way to get out of the country.

Interesting. Definitely worth keeping in mind. I'm not sold that it relates but possibly. That's further than they'd have to go but maybe the person has some base on Puerto Vallarta. How do they come back with passengers? I know you need a passport to re-enter our country and Nancy would have to have hers with. Not sure how they do that with private planes but I'm sure or betting it has to be cleared or passengers do.

Puerto Vallarta on the other hand is a popular enough destination for anyone able to fly there and come back and take passengers with passports too...

Okay, I looked it up, not as far as I thought, 862 air miles... Hmm...

On the other hand, by car, it is a 19 hour trip so that's more where my brain was and I was thinking too that it was further south than that. I should have known as it is a cruise ship stop and those usually aren't the farther destinations in Mexico depending on the length of the cruise.

Seriously??!!! What happened? Who took them and why?
They were going to a restaurant with their husbands. They got in the first car that pulled up. The men were going to follow behind in a 2nd cab. Long story short, they were taken out in the middle of nowhere. The driver met 2 other men and told them the women apparently had no cash, and not to kill them because their husbands would be looking for them. They drove them back to the restaurant they were going to and let 3 hysterical women out and took off.

One of my friends understood enough to start talking and say things like "are we going out of our way? Our husbands have the money to pay for our ride" and "they're going to wonder where we are".

Scary stuff.

That is scary stuff. I can share a few things about MX but never had that happen but I was warned more than once to watch out at certain times and in certain places... My ex was worthless about paying attn to things or watching out for me, it was the other way around, I had to never relax and try to keep him from being overly stupid. We went enough years in a row I went a bit more than he did, to really get to know a lot of the locals. Well I did as that's who I am... They'd recognize us every year and because of that and they knew how ignorant (and usually beyond drunk) and care less about me my husband was, and a few times the ones I knew looked out for me. I went outside a place one night just to get some air in the town square from a very busy place and after a few minutes the owner sent one of his staff out to tell me I did not want to be out there alone is just one example.

The more years we went, the more I picked up on certain things myself.

I know enough Spanish to get something through but I can't understand them when they talk, it's too fast. And I forget my Spanish in the year in between when we went but after going for like 11 day swe were doing in the last several years, after some days, it reallky started coming back to me. I'm terrible with the verbs, etc. And the way they do female and male words. I know o is male (at the end) and a is female, but I never know what items are male or female lol. I'm far from fluent but can get myself across.

I think if I lived there, I'd pick up so much I very well might be very good at it but when they talk, as I said, I might catch a word but it's too fast for my slow Spanish.

I could probably do what that one gf did though, I'd realize if we were going way too far just as I knew where we went every year pretty well and I definitely know how to say husband and money, etc...

That's SCARY. Any thought they had of what they planned to do with them, just rob them and leave them or...?

They were talking about shooting them. The driver told them something along the lines of "no muerte".

My God.

You know, I will say this, MX isn't all bad by a long shot, or its people. Of course there are some. Maybe more so than here but we see it here too. Maybe not something like that being all that common but we do see it.

I took and learned from the times I was warned, and I only gave one example. I could share several. I listened and trusted when someone I knew there warned me. Where we went, even if you were walking alone and it getting a bit worrisome and couldn't find a cab (another time), they just watched out for tourists and would call and all of a sudden a cab would show up out of nowhere in an area there were none, I mean without you even knowing, someone saw you and did that... And the cabbies could be trusted. They aren't the biggest tourist area by a long shot but they are one, not quite as well known as some, and they want it to be better.

I used to watch after years of my even picking up on many things myself newbies show up there from the US and they are so clueless as I was on my first two trips I'd say... But worse than my naievete in the beginning... Yeah.

I know what muerte means...

Gigi snagged an interview with Ray Hermasillo, the detective in the Daybell case. She has a full show out on it today, so ticked I missed the live but I will be watching the show. But here is a short clip of it where she asks him something about the Guthrie case.

Lol Maureen (who I really like, and she has a friend on here too who has a lot of experience in foreniscs) just told Brian he's in enough trouble already. LOL, no sh*t and deservedly so. He isn't up there with Banfield though and has tried to not get too much to the line or just over it since but he still walks it pretty close imo...

These two women are good, I already have liked Maureen, she's been on with him a lot since Reiner and I'm liking the friend too and some very good questions he's asking them here, some the very things I'd like to know/thought as well.

I rate it worth watching.
