Family pleads for help finding CPS special education teacher who disappeared near Bronzeville home

It has been two days since anyone has heard from Linda Brown.

Her family spent Monday retracing the Bridgeport teacher's last steps and calling area hospitals but have turned up nothing. Now, they are pleading with the public to help them bring her home safely.

"We don't know where she is. We need to find her because I'm breaking down and I don't know what to do," said Antwon Brown, Linda's husband.

Chicago police said Linda was last seen in the 4500-block of South Martin Luther King Drive, not far from where she lives, on Saturday. But flyers with Linda's photo are now being circulated online and throughout the Chicago area.

Antwon says he last saw his wife on Friday night. The couple watched a movie at their Bronzeville home and then went to bed.

"Everything was fine. Next morning I woke up, it was like 8:35 a.m., and she was gone. No sign of her. I thought she went to acupuncture because she goes to acupuncture on Saturdays," Antwon said.

But Antwon says the 53-year-old never showed up to her regularly scheduled appointment. And by Saturday afternoon, no one in Linda's family could get ahold of her.

"The hours that went past around 1:30, 2 p.m. I'm starting to wonder, like, 'What's going on?' She hasn't called me, because she normally would call me and tell me where she is going. She never did," Antwon said.

The special education teacher at Chicago Public Schools' Robert Healy Elementary School was set to return to work on Monday. Healy's principal sent out a letter alerting the school's community with a plea to contact police with any information.

Linda's husband says she drives a blue Honda Civic. So far, CPD have not been able to find her vehicle, which they say has an Illinois plate number of CX57470.

Family to resume search lakefront on South Side for missing CPS teacher

Family and friends of missing Chicago Public Schools teacher Linda Brown will continue their search for her Friday morning .

A high priority area will be at 31st Street Beach and working down the shoreline.

This comes after investigators found her car in the area and new video shows her leaving her vehicle, but not returning.

The family says there's video footage of the 53-year-old special education teacher walking over a pedestrian bridge near 35th and Lake Park Avenue that leads to the lakefront. The video has not been made public.

They said she is alone in the footage, which is from 3 a.m. Saturday.

Searching there makes me believe that there is no video of her on the other side of that walk bridge.

New image of missing Chicago teacher released by police as search nears 1 week

Police have released new information and photos of a missing Chicago Public Schools teacher who disappeared while heading to an acupuncture appointment last weekend.

An image released by police Friday shows Linda Brown on Jan. 3 in the area of 3500 S. Lake Park Ave., the last time she has been seen, police said. She's wearing a black winter hat, a black coat, black pants and black rubber snow boots.

"The missing person was last seen alone walking eastbound from that location and could be in need of immediate medical attention," the department wrote in a release.

The photo was taken after family said Brown was captured on surveillance video around 3 a.m. on Jan. 3 getting out of her blue Honda Civic. In the footage, she could be seen walking toward Lake Michigan on a pedestrian bridge, her family said.

Yep near the lake over a walking bridge, etc. Saw someone earlier that showed the park or trails, not sure you'd call it a park, but it may have been.

Body of missing CPS teacher Linda Brown pulled from Lake Michigan: 'Absolutely heartbroken'

The body of a Chicago Public Schools teacher who went missing over one week ago was pulled from Lake Michigan on Monday morning, officials said.

The Chicago Police Department said its marine unit recovered a woman's body from the water in the 3100-block of South Lake Shore Drive on the city's South Side just before noon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 53-year-old Robert Healy Elementary special education teacher Linda Brown.

Linda Brown's family launches advocacy protocol to help families of missing loved ones

The family of Linda Brown, a Chicago Public Schools special education teacher whose disappearance drew national attention earlier this year, is turning its experience into a new advocacy effort aimed at helping other families facing similar circumstances.

"We never imagined our own family being in this situation until we were," said Brown’s niece, Jen Rivera, who is also serving as a family spokesperson and founder of the initiative.

Rivera says the family’s experience highlighted major gaps in support for families of missing loved ones, especially when cases draw significant media attention. In response, the family is launching the Linda Brown Advocacy Protocol.

The initiative will provide families with resources, training and workshops designed to help them understand how search efforts work, how to communicate responsibly with the media and how to avoid unintentionally hindering investigations.

Rivera said those tools could have made a meaningful difference during Brown’s case.

"I don’t think we would have been through such media chaos," she said. "It could have prevented a lot of sorrow."

The advocacy protocol is intended to honor Brown’s life and career as an educator while offering guidance to families navigating one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

The Linda Brown Advocacy Protocol is expected to roll out resources and workshops in the coming months, with the family hoping the initiative becomes a model for supporting families of missing persons nationwide.
