California authorities launch search for girl who hasn’t been seen in at least 1 year

Authorities in Santa Barbara County launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn’t been at school in quite some time.

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc, but the elementary school student was not there, and “no clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.”

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.

“Even small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

On Thursday, Dec. 18, A small protest gathered outside the Vandenberg Village home of Ashlee Buzzard, the mother of missing 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard. Melodee has been missing since October 9, and authorities say the case remains an active missing child investigation.

Santa Clarita resident Natasha George says, "We want answers and see where Melodee is we want her home we want her home for Christmas. All these lovely people out here are moms you know we just want to help her bring Melodee back home safe."

Protesters say their goal is to keep the public’s attention on the case. The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation is still active and ongoing

I was going to post on this the last few days as it IS being forgotten but I never got around to it. All I was going to do is gripe about their TOTAL LACK OF ACTION. Maybe they will wait til after Christmas to see if a mom even cares to contact her child on that day. If she doesn't that is VERY TELLING and I'd put it in a court document to DO SOMETHING ABOUT HER. Order her to produce her or JAIL HER.

I'm for it as long as they don't make a nuisance of themselves for the neighbors. The neighbors have nothing to do with Melodee being missing and should not have to deal with intrusions in their lives.

i think most of the protesters ARE the neighbors. AT least that's what it largely was and had been prior.

There’s no evidence that Melodee is even alive. I don’t think the passing of Christmas is going to matter. 😢

I don't either. I'm just trying to figure out WHAT IN THE HE77 LE is doing or thinking! It's maddening and it IS quieting. New cases have taken over here and on YT where she was being covered everywhere BUT there is no news so what is there to cover. If that department is waiting for this to go away, they can THINK AGAIN. They've had more than enough time to look into most things that would maybe help them find her.

She probably isn't alive but I still just about can't believe she was right before all this. That is sooo different than many cases we see. Something or someone triggered her if you ask me and I have a few ideas on that and it was a huge mistake. It's just so hard to believe that someone that was probably worried about losing her job would kill her.

However, the longer time that goes by, the more it seems that is probably the case.

You know in that way it has no similarities to Daybell at all. Lori had no fears of DCF or LE taking her children. And Charles wasn't fighting for JJ imo, she had left him with him remember in TX to fend for himself taking care of JJ I'm sure to teach him a lesson and Kay had to go back and forth all of the time to help Charles with JJ from where? Louisiana I think? Without JJ she'd have NO SUPPORT either but she killed Charles to get the life insurance and she didn't want JJ. All of that is so different than Ashley here. The only similarity is neither would or will tell where their child/children are.

I still have some faint hope but just can't believe anyone would keep Melodee or that she knew anyone who would and become part of this mess.

I don't think it could not affect the neighbors. They will be questioned at the very least. Maybe news casters, protesters.

After living the chaos of a national news story breaking in our neighborhood, some people think nothing of being a pest to the neighbors that live there and those people getting all butthurt when they were told to leave. Cigarette butts and trash left all over their yards and strangers in their yards at all times of day and night. Then they start blocking the roads and want/expect the people that actually live there to take a different route so they can remain blocking the roads. Not cool at all.

No it isn't. That's ridiculous. I've never been to a protest. Much less to a neighborhood. No, they don't think about the people that live in the neighborhood.

I don't think that's the case here. I think it is the neighbors, it has been from the start, they want to know where Melodee is and they don't like that it is losing attention. They watch this woman come and go without seemingly a care.

I doubt there are even reporters there regularly any longer. Entin I think was there for a bit and then got sent off elsewhere on the next breaking case.

Also the neighbors or some have been more than willing to talk to reporters.

I doubt at this point they are dealing with much interference in their lives. It has sadly quieted. Perhaps LE sits outside and still watches but hard to say.
