California authorities launch search for girl who hasn’t been seen in at least 1 year​

Authorities in Santa Barbara County launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn’t been at school in quite some time.

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc, but the elementary school student was not there, and “no clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.”

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.

“Even small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

Maybe they are waiting until after the holidays. To see if a mom feels bad her daughter isn't with her on the holidays.

They need to do something but even then, she isn't going to give up answers... I don't think we will ever know where is or what happened to her unless they find her...

Hmm. I don't know either. I'd almost think if his family filed for custody, she'd say that's exactly why she "hid" MB, because they were trying to get her which is part of what I initially thought, she was scared of losing her to either them or CPS, etc.

Not sure about the social services thing either.

I do think or would hope if either his family or LE knew of a way to get her ordered to produce her, they'd be doing it...?

yeah but she was still apparently paying rent and able to rent a car, etc. so i agree, she was maybe going downhill but hadn't been totally downhill yet. losing MB's SS from her dad if that has happened or does happen will probably make it impossible is what I mean for her to make it. so lol I agree and we do for once :) but I mean it will just worsen the shape even more she apparently was already getting in.

I have to laugh, my daughter and SIL one Christmas or Easter or some such had like 6 phones at least with them. They ran the extras doing those apps that pay you money for watchig videos, doing surveys and various things, they had them 24/7 almost doing such. She knows her hacks with such things lol.

But yeah, MOST people have one phone. I have taken two with me many a time but it was kind of when I was between switching phones and numbers over and I did it for a long time until I knew no one would still be trying to reach me on the old one, etc. plus I hadn't gotten used to how to operate the new one yet. Could be something like that with her, hard to say. Just saying there are reasons one might do that.

Both my phones still are active too though even though I am now fully on the newer phone. I sh ohould drop the other one and its bill one of these days.

So her older daughter was 22. I wonder if she received social for her too? What age does that stop? 18 years old? So at some point she was receiving it for both kids Eg from maybe when Melodee was born until about 4 years ago when Destiny reached 18 years old, she would have received it for two children.

18, yes. Or a payee can be named if they are unable to financially be responsible for cashing.

Strikingly pretty I agree.

Probably one of the more active threads right now, there's a few at the moment, so a lot of pages to catch up on.

Basically it's a woman who won't produce her child or tell anyone where she is at. Different than some though in that she was alive just days before LE became involved. In so many cases, most imo, the child's been gone for some time before but not in this one. Dates were confused or not known in the beginning and they came to find out she'd been around far more recently than they thought.

Not sure if you are reading the entire thread but you will find things that turn out to not be true or perhaps exaggerated. The case has a lot of interest, a lot of speculation, etc. Been quiet recently though, out there I mean.

True. This child though was alive up until recently and she has had the child her entire 9 years. The child's father died, not as if she asked for it or killed him either to get a check.

Imo, the odd thing in this one is she went on the cross country trip with the child JUST BEFORE the school apparently asked for a welfare check or some such... It almost seems to me that she had some kind of forewarning or knowledge...? So she hid her or (hope not) got rid of her rather than risk losing her...?
 
So it is now nearly two months since Melodee went missing/was taken to a couple near or in Idaho and Ashlee has admitted that as a minimum. So she clearly won't be recieving anything for Melodee now but will she still have benefits for herself from M's father? Or will she have no income at all now?

I don't think we should take that as fact, the couple thing. However, the fact MB is not in her care should end the payments IF LE has advised SS, etc.

I heard AB is receiving disability SS, that's not the same as something from the death of the dad. She would continue to receive that if she's disabled. Her income would be less though if no check for MB due to dad's death. They are two different things.

I don’t think she had her the entire nine years. I think Melodee was with other family members for a period of time. They haven’t really specified how long, though.
