Police strongly believe Basil's noncustodial mother, Madeline Daly, has taken the baby in defiance of court orders. The baby's father, who lives about 500 miles away in Nebraska. believes the same. Police have issued a national BOLO for Daly. "Daly is driving a 2017 gray Dodge Ram pickup with Wyoming license plate 20-T-2234." (BBM) She has long brown hair, brown eyes, a septum nose ring. In addition to the baby, she is believed to be traveling with 2 dogs and a puppy. The dogs are a black female pit bull and a cattle dog. The puppy is black and white. Police believe she will go off grid and camp in state or national forests or on BLM land. She has ties to Denver CO; Moab UT; Hill City SD; and Lincoln NE, having previously lived in those places. She enjoys cleaning houses for cash on the side and may be sleeping in her truck. She has previously worked on ranches.

What a beautiful baby boy. I can see why she doesn't want to give him up. Such a shame when the parents part and someone has to lose custody. Wonder why they didnt have joint custody? So did she and the baby have a French passport, as she is half french?

Just noticed the sign. Ten Sleep population 260. 258 now.

Dad was awarded full custody. He has always wanted to be a father. The two of them worked out visitation rights in court, she is apparently not following the court orders for her visitations with the baby.

The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 10-month-old Basil Emeric Daly.
According to Sheriff Austin Brookwell, Basil’s father has been granted custody. The Sheriff’s Office received notification of a judge’s order granting custody to the father, who lives out of state.
Basil is currently believed to be with his non-custodial mother, Madeline Daly, whom he has been living with in Washakie County. Brookwell said they were living in Ten Sleep at the start of the year and most recently living with someone in the Worland area.
Per a press release, Madeline Daly may be traveling in a grey 2017 Dodge Ram, Wyoming license plate 20-T-2234. The vehicle was last seen in Washakie County on Sunday, Nov. 16. It is believed that Madeline Daly may have left Washakie County and possibly the State of Wyoming with Basil.
Brookwell said Daly missed a court hearing in October. He said they received the orders for custody on Wednesday, Nov. 19 and attempted to located Daly and Basil. On Thursday, Nov. 20 a nationwide “Be On the Look Out” notice was sent out.
On Friday, Nov. 21, Basil Emeric Daly was listed in the missing person database.
In a press release on social medial Saturday, Nov. 22, Brookwell said, “We do not have information indicating that Basil is in immediate danger; however, it is important that he is safely returned to his custodial parent,” Brookwell said.
Due to the fact that they do not believe Basil is in danger, an Amber alert was not applicable.
At this time, law enforcement has no confirmed direction of travel. The press release included the Missing Person poster from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, a photo of Daly with Basil, a photo of Daly, and a photo of the pickup, provided by another agency from when the pickup was caught on camera back in July.
Based on interviews, it was determined that the last time Daly was seen in the Worland area was Sunday, Nov. 16.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Basil, Madeline or the pickup, or have seen Basil, Madeline Daly, or the listed vehicle, is asked to contact the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 347-2242 or Wyoming DCI at (307) 777-7181.

Looks like she had mostly full custody and dad had visitation up until this point. He lives 750 miles away from them in Lincoln, NE.

September 28 - He traveled to Wyoming for a scheduled visit.
October 21 - Court hearing. Mom did not show up. Dad granted temporary emergency custody.
November 16 - Last sighting of Basil and Mom in Wyoming.
November 19 - Custody order officially through. Dad is emergency custodian.
November 20/21 - BOLO issued, officially listed as missing.
Warrant for custody interference in the works or signed.

Seems like, as the primary custodian. she is just making things worse for herself and her son. Unless she had reason to believe she would be losing custody.
I wonder if Dad was pushing for partial/full custody. He said he was just trying to enforce his visitation rights, but...

This bit seems a bit wrong to me. At the beginning of the year she would still have been pregnant. So she wasnt "living with the baby" then.

I think giving custody to the father who resides 700 miles away in another state is a stupid decision.

Yeah, I am having to wonder about this one also... I guess I'd like to know her side of the story...

Praying the baby is safe, seems to be no reason to think he isn't and hopefully that's true.

Felony Warrant Issued For Wyoming Mom Who Took Off With 10-Month-Old Baby

More than two weeks after a 10-month-old boy was reported missing, authorities have issued a felony arrest warrant for his mother, who’s accused of taking the baby.

Madeline Daly is wanted one count of felony custody interference after absconding with her son, Basil Daly, on Nov. 16, according to Washakie County Sheriff Austin Brookwell, who said the warrant includes nation-wide extradition should she be located.

Daly’s grey 2017 Dodge Ram pickup was last seen in the Worland area in the Big Horn Basin in north-central Wyoming with her last known address at an RV park in Ten Sleep.

The boy was reported missing by his biological father, Jake Stoner, who lives in Kilgore, Nebraska.

Daly failed to show up for a custody court hearing Oct. 21, at which point Stoner was granted temporary emergency custody by Washakie County District Judge Bobbi Overfield.

The couple has shared custody, which Stoner said Daly has not been granting. His last visit with his son was in Wyoming on Sept. 28.

The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office continues its search efforts with no new updates to report, Brookwell said.

“We are continuing to follow any leads we get and work with any resources accessible to bring Basil back to the custodial parent,” Brookwell told Cowboy State Daily on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Stoner waits for news and updates from his ranch in Kilgore, where Daly had once lived prior to the couple’s separation.

The couple, who were never married, have been embroiled in a custody battle since their son was born.

Stoner said that he’s been fighting Daly for months to honor his visitation rights.

“I feel like I'm getting robbed of the joys of being a dad,” he said Wednesday from his home in Nebraska. “I have always wanted children, and I want my son, but I just can't see him.”

He’s even more worried as winter begins to settle in in Wyoming not knowing where his son is or if he’s being well cared for.

“I just hope they’re somewhere safe and warm,” Stoner said.

Although authorities were able to issue a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) alert, which gives law enforcement probable cause to pull over Daly’s vehicle but not detain her, this situation does not rise to the requirements of an Amber Alert.

Stoner’s attorney, Christopher King, lamented this fact in an earlier interview because of the high visibility of such cases.

BOLLaw enforcement issued a national Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for Daly on Oct. 20, Brookwell said, adding that his office has forwarded a probable cause affidavit to Washakie County Attorney Anthony Barton to get a felony warrant for Daly for interference. The couple, who were never married, have been embroiled in ongoing custody battles in recent months with Stoner attempting to force Daly to comply with his legal visitation rights with his son, according to Stoner’s lawyer, Christopher King.

He told Cowboy State Daily that Amber Alerts are rarely granted in such custody situations.

“Very rarely do they issue them for a parent,” King said. "Which, I think, is definitely something that would help in this situation."

Amber Alerts are only issued in cases where children have been abducted and that law enforcement believes are in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death, which Brookwell said is not applicable at this time.

Stoner described Daly as an avid outdoors enthusiast and athlete who loves camping.

He thinks she may be off grid and staying in Wyoming, at national parks, or on Bureau of Land Management land.

Daly, who is a dual French and United States citizen, is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, but has ties to other places she’s lived, including Hill City, South Dakota, Thermopolis, and Moab, Utah, Stoner said.

She also has family in the Denver area and has worked and lived on various ranches and other places throughout the Midwest and West.

He described her as very resourceful, who has in the past cleaned houses for cash or picked up other gig work as needed.

Along with Basil, Daly is also traveling with two adult dogs — a black female pit bull and cattle dog — as well as a black-and-white puppy she recently acquired for their son.

Stoner thanked law enforcement for their efforts in searching for Daly and his son, and said he’s been in regular contact with the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office, which has told him that they are exploring all of their options.

“They’re putting in their best effort,” Stoner said. “Unfortunately, I just think it’s going to take some time to find her, but I know they’re hard at work.”

Daly is driving a 2017 gray Dodge Ram pickup with Wyoming license plate 20-T-2234.

She’s described as being thin and fit with long brown hair and brown eyes with a septum nose ring.

Stoner announced Wednesday that he's putting up a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the safe return of his son.

"I feel like every day, time-wise, he's in greater danger the longer this takes," Stoner said.

I sure hope there is some way they can flag if she attempts a flight since she's a dual French and US citizen. Of course, maybe the baby does not have a passport but don't think we know...

She sounds hard working and resourceful but hard to work with an infant...

I do hate it in such cases that we only have one side of the story.

Fighting for visitation rights is a lot different than fighting for custody. Guessing he was fighting for both or either, his visitation rights to be enforced and/or custody.

She sounds well traveled...

The dogs would be noticeable if they can get the word out... They'd have to be let out, walked, etc. She could easily hid the baby with a blanket, etc. and disguise her own appearance possibly but not so easily with the dogs...

If that baby has a passport, I'd be VERY worried about her leaving the country.

Holy. Sh...

Woman shoots, kills Wyoming Missing Child

On December 23, 2025, a credible tip led authorities to locate the child and his mother in New Mexico. New Mexico law enforcement was notified.

When their local law enforcement officers attempted to make contact, the woman barricaded herself in an RV. After repeated efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, the woman fatally shot the child.

She was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office does not have further details.

Sounds like it was a very good decision. They obviously had reasons to suspect him not being safe in her care and now she proved them correct.

Wow right before and on Christmas Eve too what awful news between Buzzard and this one. Terrible news.

These people. They never kill themselves but they kill the children, the ex spouses, etc. Whether female or male, the perps.

Sounds like come he77 or high water, she was not going to let anyone have the kid but her. So she kills the kid. She should have done the world a favor and taken herself out too.

Or just herself would be better, BUT that wasn't her point or goal was it...

No words other than that... AWFUL.

Mom Says She Doesn’t Know Why She Shot 11-Month-Old, Was Too Slow To Kill Herself

A woman wanted for kidnapping her 11-month-old son reportedly told authorities she doesn’t know why she shot and killed the boy, but that in her mind, she couldn’t let her ex or his family have him.

“Even if the rest of life is worthless she would do it again just so to make sure that the (family) didn’t touch him,” Detective Lt. Jason Jordan of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case and made available Friday.

Madeline Daly, 35, shot the boy Tuesday when she realized law enforcement was closing in on her, then tried to turn a gun on herself, but by then officers were able to subdue her, according to the affidavit.

Daly told investigators that after officers stormed into the RV when she shot the boy, she “wasn’t fast enough killing herself after is all she can say about that,” the affidavit says.

Madeline Daly had disappeared until this week after she applied for a job near the town of Silver City, New Mexico, the affidavit says.

The Wyoming warrant for her arrest popped up during a background check, the affidavit says.

“Madeline was ran during a background check from the owner of (a local business),” Jordan wrote.

The owner “was going to hire Madeline, but before making that decision did some investigating of his own and saw that Madeline was currently wanted in Washakie County, Wyoming, for kidnapping.”

The owner of the business called Washakie County, which then reported her to the local authorities in New Mexico, according to the affidavit.

For her part, Daly told agents after her arrest that she was keeping Basil “safe,” and that she knew she was breaking the law, but felt it was worth it for the sake of her child.

She said that’s why she ran into a nearby RV with Basil when she realized the law was closing in on her, the affidavit says.

She also made unsubstantiated claims that Basil “would have been in danger and molested if she would have stepped out of that trailer” and that his father “never wanted anything to do with Basil, financially, physically, emotionally ever.”

When questioned about why she kidnapped her own son, Daly replied that “she was not going to allow her (then) 8-month-old baby go back and forth from Nebraska to Wyoming twice a month,” the affidavit says.

Daly said she wound up in New Mexico because she had worked in that area 10 years ago. She began working for some people there who “ended up ratting her out because they knew she was running from something,” Jordan wrote.
