Authorities search for Missouri doctor who has been missing more than a week

Authorities in a small Missouri town are searching for an emergency room physician a week-and-a-half after his mysterious disappearance.

Dr. John Forsyth, 49, was last heard from May 21. Police said he was reported missing when he failed to show up for work that day at Mercy Hospital in Cassville, a town of 3,100 residents deep in the Missouri Ozarks.

Forsyth’s black Infiniti was found in a remote area near an aquatic park in Cassville. The car was unlocked with his wallet, two phones and a laptop inside.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, have joined in the search using people, dogs and drones. Forsyth’s family set up a Facebook page seeking information.

Richard Forsyth said his brother had been at the Cassville hospital for about 15 years. He described John Forsyth as a doting father who became engaged to his girlfriend just a couple of days before he disappeared.

Well I have just read some of this thread and what a strange one. Did they find an electric bike near the lake or a second vehicle at all?

If I recall, no mention was made of the gun or finding one and that's one thing that still bothers me.

Being found in his lab coat is odd too, agree with that.

A very weird case through and through...

If the gun is anywhere near where they found him and where his bike was, it would actually be easier too find it in the water there than in the ground . That water is crystal clear and scuba diving is very popular there because it's so clear. There's even a scuba shop and school near that area.

Did I read he was shot in the top of the head or am i thinking of another suicide case?

The very last article I posted stated that, but I think that is the first time I had read that specific part. He's a Dr., so he would know exactly how to do it and where, so that makes perfect sense to me...on that part.

I'm kind of chuckling to myself picturing him riding that bike on those twisty, turny, hilly roads with is lab coat flying out behind him. It's not funny, but still makes me realize that it really was most likely a suicide and he was on a mission. plenty of people had to have seen him because it was right before a major lake holiday here and so many were out getting their lake lots ready for the big weekend and locals getting busy for the influx of lake goers.

Yes, but it doesn't make sense that the gun is missing. In a suicide it would still be at the scene.

While not all lab coats are long, and he may not have had it unfastened, I have the same pic in my head lol. It also makes me think of Mary Poppins for some reason. Didn't she and him ride bikes with long coats on...?

I would think the coat would have made him more noticed by anyone passing him...? As it would seem odd...

He was found IN the lake, so presumably the gun was IN the lake. No telling how far he drifted from where the gun is to where he was found. I don't think they have stated exactly where he was found or where his bike was. I have a good idea, but it's only from knowing the area and it's only a guess.

I get more of the Wicked Witch riding her bike image in my head, with the deranged look on his face like hers.

It also might have been found by somebody on the Memorial Day Weekend and they just kept it or tossed it. Like I said, there is a LOT of scuba activity and a scuba school right on the north area of the lake where he presumably was found and that water is crystal clear. I am pretty confident he was found VERY close to the dive shop, too.

Do we know they don't have it? I've never heard it stated either way. I think we are presuming they haven't found it, when they very well might have.
Well they've never mentioned so and since it is a key thing that would put questions to rest in people's minds, I'd think they'd tell us if they had. They've provided other key details to support their finding of suicide like a few people knew he was contemplating suicide, that the place in head he was shot is easily done by the person themselves, etc. But nothing about the gun.

I haven't looked back but I am pretty certain because I recall wondering that some months back too, what about the gun, and I think it was discussed here that it wasn't mentioned. If I recall correctly that is.

It's a key piece.

When was he found deceased? Wasn't it some time after he was missing? Seems strange if the area is that busy, no one would have encountered or seen his body.

They didn't tell us anything about the notes before so I can see how they didn't tell us very much at all, including if the gun was found. Not being mentioned does not mean not found. They never did issue a public statement about being on the lookout for it, either, so by that I can also assume they did find it and just didn't know at the time who fired it, being him or somebody else.

it was right after Memorial Day, if I remember correctly. He also might not have died the same day he disappeared, but yes, I would have thought he would have been found much quicker if he was actually in the water that long, but he could have been in one of the quieter coves.

They said they found his bike, but I would like to know when they found his bike and how long it had been where they found it.

It would also be nice if they would tell us where all of that was found. It's a huge lake. I presume it all was on the northern end because of his ride there and how they stated how far away from Cassville he was, but even the north edge is huge.
