California authorities launch search for girl who hasn’t been seen in at least 1 year​

Authorities in Santa Barbara County launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn’t been at school in quite some time.

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc, but the elementary school student was not there, and “no clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.”

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.

“Even small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

Detectives Arrest Ashlee Buzzard on Unrelated Charges; Search for Melodee Ongoing​

Lompoc, Calif. – Sheriff’s detectives have arrested 40-year-old Ashlee Buzzard on charges unrelated to the ongoing search for her missing 9-year-old daughter, Melodee Buzzard.
Detectives learned of a recent incident where Ashlee prevented a victim from leaving a location, against their will which constitutes false imprisonment. This crime is not connected to the ongoing search for Melodee, however, detectives are unable to fully outline the crime as it would impede their ongoing investigation.
On Friday, November 7, 2025, detectives arrested Ashlee on a warrant for a felony charge of false imprisonment. She will be booked at the Northern Branch Jail with bail set at $100,000. Her booking photo does not meet the criteria for public release and will not be distributed.
Although this arrest occurred during the course of the missing person investigation, it is not directly related to Melodee’s disappearance. Sheriff’s detectives remain fully focused on locating Melodee and confirming her safety.
Members of the public who have seen Melodee or who may have information about her whereabouts are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office through any of the following methods:

Not just not posting on social media but not posting it at all is what I'm seeing for this one.

I do agree with this though because a lot of people that have shots are not guilty of the crime they were booked for and their mugshot should not be out there connecting them to a crime that did not happen.

They showed a picture of her with Melodee carving a pumpkin and I thought it was another family member, but it was Ashlee. My heart just aches for a little Melodee. Who was she living with?

I watched a video that had a neighbor on. A coup1e of things I had not heard before was she said anytime mom and daughter 1eft the house together, daughter was g1ued to mom's side/right by her side AND that every time they ever saw Me1odee, mom had her with a hood over her head, EVEN if it was 90 degrees. They a1so saw AB sitting near a shed (think in the back yard) crying when her home was being searched. Her mom said at that point (the neighbor's mom) she a1most fe1t sorry for her, seeing her crying, but then they both said no, she cou1d just te11 them where her daughter is instead.

The channe1 is the same one/woman as above, new to me, she got the PI on, now she had the neighbor on, etc. I subscribed now.

In this one, they had footage of her in court and I have to say she looks nothing like we've seen in previous pics, even the face without makeup, and the hair, I'd never have recognized her if not told this was her.

The reporter also has a conversation with paternal grandma in it, who was in attendance with other family members.

Near the end, the channel talks of a custody battle with the paternal side they make sound ongoing or recent. I thought any of that was some years ago? Is there a more recent such action does anyone know?

On STS last night, there was who I believe was a close member of the family.

She said the guy who was held by Ashlee was NOT there at the behest of the family nor connected with the family, at least not the grandma, aunt, etc. Also is post has now been deleted. Go figure right?

I think she also said Ashlee had another child taken away some years back, I didn't catch it in detail. I doubt she was talking of the half sister as she is older and was not hers.

When asked why Ashlee was not in the obit, she was ready for that so they've gotten questions or flak about that imo and she said first they were never married and second he was a devout Catholic and you don't mention such if a devout Catholic. WHAT?? I have seen Catholics mention their son's gf, significant other, etc. in obits. Also he wouldn't have been here to suggest or insist on that. No hint that I caught of how long they were together or if they were together at that time or after Melodee, etc.

In the above, grandma says she thought Ashlee odd and different from the start.

I'm sorry but I am not liking this family. While it is understandable they'd be worried MB is missing, they are too involved and I also am not sure LE wants or wanted that.

I'm also not surprised the guy took down his post, he rubbed wrong from the start too. Who asked him to go talk to her anyhow? He upset her too.

And again the family has a PI. Again it is understandable they want her found and safe but it doesnt mean LE wants them involved.

Furthermore, the guy told the public what happened when LE was not talking and did not want to tell the public because it might interfere with the investigation to find MB. I doubt they approved his little post.

On News Nation this morning, they were talking about the guy, is it Tyler, and that she told him where she dropped off MB supposedly although he said she may not have been telling the truth. I'm sure he told cops. The good thing about that is she is alive in that scenario supposedly.

The friend of the father's family last night on STS said the dad worked for something Petroleum Company. She said at one time Ashlee worked as some kind of teacher's aide or assistant. Of course she'd get survivor's benefits for Melodee but per the SS website that's likely around $1,100.

Ashlee had to have had other income or help imo as that house alone would rent for more than that. Her clothing and the wigs cost money too. However, she did not have a car that she was using.

We don't know that she was not working either. A normal job.

We also don't know she was fully in financial straits but we do know a credit card account or two was an issue.

We know little of her situation or if she worked nor does the other side.

Oh also per News Nation, Ashlee accused Tyler of being with or helping the cops and the other side who want to take MB away from her.

I think that's her entire reason for this personally.
