Three missing girls in Wenatchee found dead, father still missing

Three missing girls in the Wenatchee area were found dead, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

According to the police department, police responded to reports of a civil complaint when the mom of three young girls reported that her daughters did not return after a planned visitation with their father.

Police said Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup, which was last seen heading west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30.

WSP was contacted Friday night for an Amber Alert request, but Wenatchee Police said it did not meet the required criteria, and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued.

Law enforcement eventually found Decker's car unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground.

Other officers searched the immediate area and found the bodies of the three missing girls.

Decker is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Police do not know if Decker is currently armed, but he may still pose a significant risk, according to police.

A planned visitation with a dad that was living out of his truck. How long was he supposed to have them? Hours or days? Was he supposed to be camping with them at the campground due his visitation? I totally get that he needs to see them, but WHERE were they supposed to stay and how long are my questions.

He was known to be homeless. They said he was either staying in his truck, at a hotel/motel, or at a campground.
He was only supposed to have them on Friday. I don't believe they were supposed to be staying with him at all.
He was known to have mental health issues since his time in the military, but even their mother said she didn't think he would hurt them / he loved them.

I don't know his motive but with some sadly it's child support or responsibilities and requirements. I don't know why though they think they will get away with it in almost all cases.

Maybe he's dead too, they did find his vehicle, but somehow I doubt it. Don't know though of course.

Oof! It sounds like she was just trying to keep them all in touch. I can't even imagine.

This is the latest with the exact cause of deaths of the girls. Evil POS. They were found thrown down an embankment, ziptied wrists with plastic bags over their heads.

At first I thought it was pretty likely he self-ended in the same area. But now knowing more about his history, he has mountain survival skills from the Rangers.

Who is Travis Decker? What to know about the Wenatchee, WA father wanted for murder

According to authorities, he is a former military member with extensive training.

FOX 13 Seattle confirmed with a spokesperson with the Washington National Guard that Decker was a member.

He transferred to the organization in 2021 from the Active Component – and has been pending a disciplinary discharge for not showing up to his monthly drills. The last drill he attended was about a year ago.

Travis Decker shows up in several social media posts from current and past members of the armed forces. Based on FOX 13 Seattle’s review of those accounts and other social media profiles, Decker likely has advanced infantry combat training. Multiple Facebook and Instagram posts show Decker show he was an airborne paratrooper who earned his elite ‘Ranger’ tab – meaning he has elite wilderness evasion and survival skills. A different social media profile under his name claims he qualified as an instructor at the US Army’s National Guard Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Manhunt continues in Chelan County woods for military-trained father accused of killing daughters

The search continues for 32-year-old Travis Decker, who is accused of killing his three young daughters at a campground near Leavenworth. Authorities warn that his advanced military training could help him survive for months in the remote wilderness.

Decker’s survival skills, which he gained during a 2014 deployment to Afghanistan, are proving to be obstacles for search teams. However, law enforcement is hopeful he will be spotted. The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office released a photo depicting his tattoos.

The sheriff’s office is also asking citizens who own cabins or live near remote areas of Chelan, Kittitas, King, Snohomish, and Okanogan counties to be aware Decker is on the run.

“We are asking for those owners to lock all of their doors, to include any sheds, outbuildings, and leave their window blinds open, and we recommend leaving outside lights on,” the agency stated.

A former U.S. Army Ranger with specialized training in mountain warfare and wilderness survival, Decker is believed to have escaped into the thick forests of central Washington. The bodies of his daughters, Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5), were found Monday near his abandoned vehicle at the Rock Island Campground in Wenatchee.

Search crews from the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Border Patrol, Homeland Security, and the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office are continuing an intensive ground and aerial search with helicopters, drones, and tracking teams.

“He’s specifically trained in mountain warfare,” crime reporter Steve Hickey said. “They are extremely concerned about what this man is capable of. According to his training, he is able to sustain himself for months on end, and he is capable of continuing on.”

Sheriff Mike Morrison confirmed during a press conference Wednesday that Decker is “well-versed in wilderness survival,” and that law enforcement believes he may have taken gear from his vehicle before vanishing into the forest.

“We are unsure if Mr. Decker is currently alive, so we are taking it that he is still out there,” Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said. “We will not rest until we’ve located him, whether he’s alive or he’s dead, we want to make sure he’s brought back.”

A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Decker’s arrest. Authorities ask anyone with relevant tips to call the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 509-667-6845 or submit tips online.

'Evil': New video released in hunt for Travis Decker, suspected of killing his 3 daughters

Officials have released additional photos and new video they say show a Washington state father on the run from law enforcement in connection to the slayings of his three young daughters.

Travis Decker, 32, is wanted on charges of kidnapping, first-degree murder, and custodial interference in the killings of Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8; and Olivia Decker, 5. Following a more than two-day search for the sisters, Chelan County Sheriff's Office deputies on Monday, June 2 found the siblings' bodies at a remote campground with plastic bags over each of their heads and evidence they had been zip-tied, court papers obtained by USA TODAY revealed.

The tragic findings sparked a manhunt, and Chelan County Sheriff's Office told USA TODAY on Thursday afternoon, June 5 it was narrowing its search for Decker after gathering "new information" in the case.

An online fundraiser for sisters' mother had also raised nearly $1 million by Thursday afternoon, June 5.

Authorities released new photos and videos of the suspect, Travis Decker, who was the subject of a manhunt involving local, state and federal officials.

Investigators traced Travis Decker's cell phone, which revealed he had visited the same campground a day prior to the girls' kidnapping, court papers show.

Missing Wenatchee girls likely cause of death revealed in court documents

Three young girls allegedly murdered by their father in Washington appeared to have died from asphyxiation, according to a preliminary report filed with Chelan County Superior Court.

Decker's vehicle was nearby with two bloody handprints, and had personal items such as blankets, food, car seats and a wallet on the center console. The camp showed signs of recent activity, with a tent and cooler located a short distance away.

A preliminary examination of the bodies suggests the likely cause of death was asphyxiation. The Chelan County Coroner positively identified each of the victims.

Decker's cell phone activity shows he drove to and left the same campground a day prior to the kidnapping, court documents state.

Interviews with the girls' mother also revealed a possible decline in Decker's mental health leading up to the alleged kidnapping and murders.

Decker is a former military member with extensive training, and is known to stay at motels or local campgrounds after losing housing. Decker and his ex-wife had been divorced for several years, and had a parenting plan in place for their three children. He was allowed to see them during specific hours every other weekend in the Wenatchee Valley.

According to court documents, Decker's ex-wife claimed he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which she believes he does not take medications for. Under the parenting plan, Decker was supposed to seek mental health treatments and anger management counseling, though he had apparently not been following the plan and refused to sign it.

Decker was reportedly "quieter than usual" when picking up the kids for visitation on Friday, which was "out of character" for him. He had also allegedly been talking about getting rid of his dog due to housing and financial struggles.

Court records reveal custody issues for man at center of a national manhunt

The recording from the last custody hearing in Chelan County Superior Court between Whitney Decker and her ex-husband, Travis Decker, who is now at the center of a national manhunt, paints an insightful and sometimes eerie glimpse into the months that led up to the brutal murders of their three young daughters—Olivia, 5 years old, Evelyn, 8 years old, and Paityn, 9 years old

In September 2024, both parties stood in front of a judge requesting their court-approved parenting plan, in place since March 2023, be temporarily amended. According to the recording, while both parties presented motions to request their proposed changes, the judge decided not to consider the motion presented by Travis Decker, who represented himself, after Whitney Decker’s attorney objected, saying he failed to file the motion correctly and did not serve Whitney Decker. Judge Robert Jourdan agreed, and both parties, instead, presented their arguments for and against Whitney Decker’s motion to amend the plan.

Whitney Decker’s attorney, Arianna Cozart, asked Judge Jourdan to temporarily take away Travis Decker’s overnight custody rights after expressing concern that changes in his personal life presented significant safety risks for their three children, including having them stay with him at a National Guard armory.

“The children were sleeping at the armory where there are obviously dozens of other men present, and the children were left at least once while Mr. Decker went to the Safeway,” Cozart said. “They are too little and, quite frankly, they shouldn’t be staying in the armory anyway.”

Cozart also told the court Travis Decker owed Whitney Decker thousands of dollars in child support and was homeless and living out of his truck, or motels, or friends’ homes. Cozart also requested Judge Jourdan order a domestic violence evaluation and a full psychiatric assessment.

In response, Travis Decker acknowledged his struggle with housing instability and described the challenges he faced transitioning from his career in the military, where he served as an Army Ranger, into civilian life.

“When I was separated from active duty, I tried to figure out how to live as a civilian,” he said. “I didn’t have family, friends, or any support—especially moving to a state where I had no one to lean on or even a couch to sleep on.”

Travis Decker also told the court, in order to provide overnight shelter, he would often take his daughters camping.

“I don’t believe that my weekends should be completely taken away since I have been gone,” Travis Decker said. “Every time I’ve had the girls we have been in campsites and national forests and paid campsites that have campers, we’ve never done anything that was unsafe or anything I wouldn’t want to put myself in.”

At the end of the almost 30-minute hearing, Judge Jourdan granted Whitney Decker’s motion and temporarily amended the couple’s parenting plan. However, Travis Decker refused to sign any court documents.

The judge told Travis Decker signing the documents was up to him, but his order would be legally binding with or without his signature. Travis Decker also refused to attend any domestic violence psychiatric evaluations and assessments. Seven months later, Chelan County deputies found the bodies of his children at a campground 18 miles west of Leavenworth.

They have closed an EXTREMELY popular hiking/backpacking area now.

Enchantments, surrounding areas closed during manhunt for man suspected of killing his daughters

The Enchantments and surrounding areas are closed until further notice as the search for Travis Decker continues.

The closure boundary begins at the Snow Lakes Trailhead, following the Snow Lakes trail to Colchuck Pass. It circles around, following Icicle Ridge back to the Snow Lakes Trailhead. It encompasses the Icicle Road road system, all campgrounds and all trails.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said Wednesday that Decker is “well-versed” in outdoor survival and, in the past, he has lived off the grid for at least two months. Morrison said there is a possibility Decker may have scoped out the area and planted resources in advance of his disappearance.
