Two years after Stephanie Warner's disappearance, Jackson County Sheriff's Department detectives now believe the Applegate woman is dead and that her boyfriend knows the location of her body.

Detectives have identified 62-year-old Lennie Ames, her boyfriend at the time of her disappearance on July 4, 2013, as a suspect but no charges yet have been filed. Investigators say their suspicions are based on physical evidence they have collected and alleged inconsistencies in Ames' statements about Warner's whereabouts.

"We believe he's responsible for her death, and that he took her somewhere, and that he knows where she's at," said sheriff's Detective Eric Henderson. "He holds the key."

Investigators believe Ames is in Georgia, but they haven't been able to get in touch with him for about a year. What led to Warner's death remains unclear.

"The only two people that would know that are Stephanie and Lennie, and Stephanie is no longer here," Henderson said.

Warner, 43 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen at the Ashland Independence Day parade in 2013. She wore black pants and a pink tank top at the event. Days later, police visited Warner's home for a welfare check after receiving concerned calls from family in Louisiana.

This is pretty far from where Stephanie went missing, but you never know. I can't find any info on whether these remains have been identified or not.

Not Stephanie :(

Detectives have positively identified the remains as those of Anita C. Presley, 57, Sgt. William Bailey said. Her next of kin has been notified, he added. Her driver's license indicated an address in Harbor, a town near Brookings on the Oregon coast, Bailey said.

The medical examiner is expected to list the cause of death as undetermined, Bailey said, but no foul play is suspected in her death.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the worst sleuther ever. Lol

Stephanie Anne Warner was last seen on July 4, 2013, leaving a convenience store in Ashland, Oregon with her boyfriend, Lennie Ames. Stephanie had been seen earlier that day walking alongside a parade float she helped create for the 4th of July holiday event. In July of 2015, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office officially named Ames as the prime suspect in Stephanie's disappearance. Their statement also indicated they believe Stephanie is deceased, however, her body has not been found. Authorities did not release any further details in the case. If you have any information about Stephanie’s case, please contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at (541) 774-6800.

RUCH, Ore. – A Jackson County cold case that’s nearly a decade old has been reopened.

On July 4th, 2013, Stephanie Ann Warner of Ruch disappeared after Ashland’s 4th of July parade. During the parade, she was reportedly with her boyfriend, Lennie Ames.

<snip>
That all changed on Monday, May 1, 2023, when a mushroom hunter found what is believed to be human hair and tissue near Warner’s home in the 9000 block of Highway 238.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the tissue was sent to the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory to obtain a positive identification.

“Investigators have been going through the entire [Warner] case reviewing police reports, re-listening to recorded interviews, and re-examining the evidence,” JCSO said. “Southern Oregon High Tech Crime Task Force is using advanced technology to examine the digital evidence including computers, and cell phones.”

Anyone with information about Stephanie’s disappearance is asked to contact Sergeant Jesse Ainsworth at (541) 774-6816.

I hope and pray she has been found!!!! This case has frustrated me for years!

Apparently the remains were not linked to Stephanie. Other remains have now been found.

A year ago, human remains were also found in the Applegate area.

At the time, investigators believed the remains might have belonged to 43-year-old Ruch woman Stephanie Anne Warner, who has now been missing for nearly 11 years. That body was eventually linked to an unrelated missing person investigation out of Ashland.

As of now, Warner’s missing person case has never been solved.

Development in cold case turns “disappointing” for JaCo. investigators

July 2025
Friday marks 12 years since the disappearance of a Ruch woman after Ashland’s 4th of July parade. Police have been unable to find her or charge anyone in her disappearance.

Stephanie Anne Warner was 43 years old when she went missing. Investigators said a lack of leads and evidence has caused the case to go cold. It was reopened in 2023, but investigators are telling us now, they’re in need of a break.

“We have dug into this case. I have personally gone through everything. We need a break,” said Lieutenant Jesse Ainsworth with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. One of the last places Warner was seen was at the 2013 Ashland 4th of July parade. “We believe it was a homicide,” Lieutenant Ainsworth added.

Back in 2017, Jackson County Sheriff’s detectives told us her boyfriend Lennie Ames was the prime suspect and last person to see Warner. But despite investigators’ exhaustive efforts, there’s been no arrests in the case.

“To solve it, it’s going to take somebody coming out who knows something, or somebody coming across human remains,” said Lieutenant Ainsworth.

In 2023, investigators thought they got that big break. A mushroom hunter stumbled on what was believed to be human hair and tissue near Warner’s home in Ruch. “It was confirmed to not be human hair,” Lieutenant Ainsworth told NBC5 News. “Which was very, very disappointing.”

At this point, Lieutenant Ainsworth urges anyone who has information on the case to reach out to the sheriff’s office, “I’m hopeful that somebody could come forward and give us that information that could button this thing together so we can find Stephanie and get some closure.”

Warner’s sister, Sharon Lambert told us several years ago, the family desperately wants to know just what happened, “When someone passes away the day of their death is always a hard thing but in the case with this, we have no closure.”

NBC5 News previously reported that police said Warner’s boyfriend, Lenny Ames had provided inconsistent statements to detectives. The only suspect named by police, he’s also the only person of interest in the case. Ames left the Applegate Valley a few years ago to live in Georgia.

But the sheriff’s office tells NBC5 News it’s not giving up on this case.
