Woman escapes kidnapper in Excelsior Springs, MO - Linked to other cases?

No offense to those that live there but WTH is going on in Missouri? This makes me think of the other one, the Rainwater case. Both hint of women held hostage and tortured and of multiple victims. There has been talk since Rainwater of a lot of missing teens/women there, etc. This poor woman was terrified and clearly held. Just the details out are horrible and the hints are there of far worse details of what she suffered. She also talks of her "friends" not making it...

Attorney for Excelsior Springs man asks judge to limit info released in case

9 Feb 2024
An attorney representing a Kansas City-area man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman asked a judge to limit the amount of information released about the case.

A grand jury indicted Timothy Haslett, Jr. of Excelsior Springs a year ago. He is charged with:
  • one count of first-degree rap
  • four counts of first-degree sodomy
  • one county of kidnapping
  • two counts of second-degree assault
  • one count of endangering the welfare of a child
This week Haslett’s attorney filed a motion asking for a protection order. If the judge approves the request it will prohibit anyone involved in the case from speaking publicly about it. The public also wouldn’t have access to any court documents involving the case.

The request claims the case received significant media coverage and national interest from networks and shows like Inside Edition. Haslett’s attorney also says people are posting using TikTok and YouTube to post claims about the case and the information is not always accurate.

The request also said Haslett will not be able to get a fair trial with an impartial jury if information about the case continues to be released.

Haslett has pleaded not guilty to the crimes. He is scheduled to be in court again on April 15.

It is not known when the judge will rule on the motion.

Yes, inaccurate information is being posted that might prejudice a jury. So whatever you do, don't release the facts to disprove them.

In addition to the statements from T.J., Thompson said Crosdale appears on a photo taken from Haslett’s electronic device showing her inside his basement. A photo storage card recovered from his home shows people associated with Crosdale. Thompson also said barrel containing Crosdale's body was from the same manufacturer as others found at his house.

More info from the probable cause statement on this article.

I can't seem to track down a copy of the actual probable cause statement. If any of you can, I would very much appreciate it!

It's amazing how little attention some of these huge awefyk cases get. Or maybe the better word is--- DISGUSTING they don't get wide coverage. I wouldn't know of this but for you who live in the state or area. Nor would most people and certainly not those that don't follow crime. I do and would not have known.

I think I found it but not sure if I can insert this correctly. I won't have time to delve into it at once today, but should be able to take in a bit at a time.

Oops, it's too big to download the document. Let's see if this works

I read a paragraph or two, I think it did work but I think I should quit I that a charge of first degree rape is punishable by not less than a term of five years. Say WHAT. Of course it goes on and seems like homicide and such may be having things further but I stopped at that one as I don't have the time right now. Even if other sh*t adds up to more by far, like homicide, WHY would first degree rape be only five years at times?

I'm just constantly disgusted at how backwards things have gone if indeed they ever even got to where they should be. Smh How about for instance not less than a term of 20?

just one section:

. stated "Timothy" told her there were two other females he held captive who didn't make it. did not, know their names. There were no other females while she was there.Ystated on her first night at the residence, "Timothy" used a gas mask on her. She described a cycle of not being able to breathe while wearing the mask and then he would let her breathe. "Timothy" told he killed the first female by using a gas mask and she didn't last three minutes. The second girl died by electrocution with a device that was used in her vagina. "Timothy" said if she did not listen to him, he would suffocate her and put her in a barrel like the rest of "them". Ina follow-up interview, stated "Timothy" inserted electric shocking sex toys into her vagina and anus at the same time to punish her.

Okayyyy! So we have a total torture freak. I did not read all and couldn't take the time and still can't. There's probably more of these than we know and I can't name them but recall a few in the last decades and not even sure it always comes out either. I recall one REALLY bad one and a few others.

This here is a kidnapping and not a murder but if they LET this man walk or not get LIFE beyond LIFE, it is inexcusable. These are the types the DP is MEANT for.

Haven't had time to refresh on it but recall the basics and her escape and haven't read the doc.

MO is a DP state and we have follow thru. An eye for an eye truly fits for this case.

It is? I am not sure I knew that or at least wasn't currently aware of it. I know the deal in some states, not all. Like CA has one but never executes anyone. ID has one and is looking to do firing squad. Colorado had one or still does but last I knew governor made it not usable any longer. Etc. I know IN has it. TX has it. We don't but I believe we should.

Florida is the one kicking some butt. They now have it where it does not have to be 12 jurors agreed if I have it right AND they are allowing the DP for child SA and such.

Not sure if I knew of Missouri or just forgot. Is the DP applicable for kidnapping of an adult though? Is he charged with the DP/.are they going for it?

You have that right, an eye for an eye truly does fit and I believe in such. I mean LOOK at what all this "softness" has resulted in. Imo.

I'd have to refresh here but he is not charged with murder of anyone thus far is he? Although I'd not doubt he's done such...

He is charged with 1st degree murder. Here in MO the punishment (if found guilty) is LWOP or DP.

I probably should have recalled or knew that but never get time to look back in catching up with tons of cases, etc. I looked at the title which is kidnapping and escape and I recalled that part pretty well even before looking. Thanks for refreshing me on that. I even recalled when she escaped, they looked into or found other things with him but even now, I can't recall the details.

I am GLAD to hear that re punishment, sad to be reminded of more and other victims and again I'd have to refresh to recall.

I'm also glad to hear you have the DP and it is taken seriously.

Imo all states should have it, still have it and carry it out in CERTAIN cases. And without the decades of b.s. and expense. Just my opinion though. As we are entitled to and it is the one I hold.
