ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

The mom is elderly? I'd think she'd be like my age since he is 35. Heck she could be your age. And she could my age or older than me by five years or even a decade too and I still wouldn't consider that elderly. The one post or tweet or whatever did refer to her as elderly. Siince when did 50s or even 60s become thought of as elderly?

To be fair, as ya all know, I haven't looked at all the links. How old was she? I guess that would tell me if elderly or not. And she is dead and he is missing?

Maybe it's just me but I'd consider 80s and 90s elderly and 70s mayyyybeeee. Heck I have a sister and a mom in their 70s and let me tell you neither seems elderly in the least. And 50s is middle age, not elderly.
Well my mom had me at 30. But situations are different. My grandma had my dad at 18 and married at 16. I'll try to find her age. I didn’t see her age just "Elderly".

What an idiot. She was an advocate or something to that degree. She had a complaint filed last year with the courts for records being released. Well I bet you don't have a job anymore. Good luck with those fines.

It just made me think of when the elderly are murdered. Yes. 70's and 80's. I didn't consider my mom elderly at 78 really. She was very active until she got sick. Even then it drove her crazy she just couldn't anymore. My dad was very active too. But at 87, And the situation, That has changed. He tries though. It drove my grandpa nuts too. Couldn't farm anymore.
My mom too is very active and probably younger looking in many ways than she was 20 years ago, she weighs less, takes care of her health, quit smoking some years aback and so forth. You'd never guess her age if not knowing. My dad in his 80s I guess would have been thought of as elderly and had slowed a lot but did and tried. My mom is pushing 80 and no offense to my dad but is in far better health than he was at the same age. I don't know if I'd say health so much as mobility and oomph and things like that may be more accurate.

HOWEVER I was just guessing it totally possible this mother was in her 50s, maybe 60s and that isn't elderly. Heck most (not all) people those ages still aren't fully gray which most consider a sign of being elderly. And we aren't allowed to retire AND get Medicare and SS both until mid to late 60s and so the govt. considers us not elderly (go figure) right...?)

I know all situations differ, I was just going with most likely PLUS they called her elderly without giving her age and so I thought some yout might have just assumed incorrectly that 50 or 60 is elderly lol.

She was 73. So she was 38. But he has one older brother "Nick" But his age is "withheld" For some reason.
Well so I GUESS that could be considered elderly then and is a surprise. Not impossible of course and nothing wrong with it but I'd have not guessed that the most likely which is why I wondered... My dad was 39 when they had me so not like I find it unusual. Just was guessing the more likely age was all.

Sergio Brown seems to be in Mexico.

That's pretty telling. Well. I thought it would be the case unfortunately. How awful. To have the child you gave life, Kill you. It's incomprehensible.
