ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I figured it had to be recent. Even though I have watched nothing here nor elsewhere and still hadn't had a chance, all titles and stuff on YT and elsewhere were following the "hunt" and lives were on etc. every day and I think this morning when I left of recent events, searches, etc. So that fits. I went to work not knowing he was apprehended.

In the news today it was said he hadn't eaten for days abd thought of surrendering. AWWWW. Poor baby. He wouldn't have had any choice. He was starving to death. Right mom?.

Yeah, he is such a poor VICTIM. They didn't drop him lunches and POP after he ESCAPED. Meanies.

He never victimized others, he is the VICTIM. Typical.

I haven't watched much on it but even I'm hearing something about surviving on watermelon.

All taking bows over the capture but let's not forget he escaped in the first place. The dog part is cool, even I who haven't followed have heard that.

This is the same state and area while getting all this PR over this are and were screwing over Ellen Greenberg and her parents yet again.

I'm a little confused so waiting on something that seems more clear. It actually sounds like on August 25 they were supposed to leave from Illinois to go to a family reunion in Alabama (I think). But were just reported missing Friday.

Odd.
That is. Wayyyy too much time before being reported. 3 wks?!! Come on!!! If someone didn't show up to an event. I would think the 1st day maybe because of traveling it was taking longer. The 2nd day and no word. Uh uh. And what about cell phones?. I'm sure even the mother had one. I would have tried calling the 1st day when they were late.

Here's why I'm confused.

Sheila Simmons, the sister of Myrtle Brown, told WGN-TV that she last talked to her on Sept. 14 and that the woman just celebrated her birthday on Sept. 8. Simmons said she received a phone call around 3 a.m. local time that her sister and nephew were missing

Yeah. Huh?. Phone call from?. At 3 a.m. IMO. This looks very bad he didn't do this and is missing on purpose. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he was found deceased. How sad. It is extra heartbreaking when the elderly die violently at the hands of another.

The mom is elderly? I'd think she'd be like my age since he is 35. Heck she could be your age. And she could my age or older than me by five years or even a decade too and I still wouldn't consider that elderly. The one post or tweet or whatever did refer to her as elderly. Siince when did 50s or even 60s become thought of as elderly?

To be fair, as ya all know, I haven't looked at all the links. How old was she? I guess that would tell me if elderly or not. And she is dead and he is missing?

Maybe it's just me but I'd consider 80s and 90s elderly and 70s mayyyybeeee. Heck I have a sister and a mom in their 70s and let me tell you neither seems elderly in the least. And 50s is middle age, not elderly.

It just made me think of when the elderly are murdered. Yes. 70's and 80's. I didn't consider my mom elderly at 78 really. She was very active until she got sick. Even then it drove her crazy she just couldn't anymore. My dad was very active too. But at 87, And the situation, That has changed. He tries though. It drove my grandpa nuts too. Couldn't farm anymore.
