Vancouver boy has been missing since at least June, FBI says
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved in the search for a boy from Vancouver, Washington who has been missing since at least June of 2022.

The FBI Most Wanted account tweeted on Monday morning about the case of Breadson John, also known by the name "Brxsan." He would be 8 years old as of this release.

Though the federal agency posted about John's disappearance Monday, the last known development in the case was more than seven months ago.

On June 17, 2022, the FBI said, detectives from the Vancouver Police Department attempted to conduct a welfare check at John's home after receiving reports concerned about him from the community. The detectives were unable to locate John at the time.

In a follow-up statement, Vancouver police said that detectives have attempted to contact members of John's family to see if he was with anyone else or remains missing.

"To date, the family members that have been contacted have not provided investigators information related to the whereabouts of Breadson and he has not been located," the agency said.

John was born Oct. 17, 2014 in Hawaii. He's described as being of Pacific Islander descent with black hair and brown eyes. Photos provided by the FBI are more than a year old, the agency said, so his appearance is likely to have changed.

John speaks English and Trukese/Chuukese. He has ties to Hawaii, Arizona, Washington and the Truk/Chuuk Islands in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The FBI released limited details about the circumstances of John's disappearance and it's unclear if he could be with an adult. However, he appears under the "Kidnappings/Missing Persons" category of the FBI's Most Wanted web page, not under "Parental Kidnappings."

It's also unclear if there were any previous efforts to distribute information about John's disappearance to the media.

Officials said family members have not provided investigators with information about John’s location. John’s grandparents, who were John’s last known guardians and persons of interest in the investigation, were charged with custodial interference last month.

It was a community member who initiated a welfare check for John by putting up posters and sounding the alarm that he was missing and endangered.

“It’s common that a caregiver of a child, if they didn’t know where the child was, would try to do everything they could to help locate the child. And that’s not what we’re getting right now,” Bernd said. “We ask the public’s help, and they’re one of our best resources when it comes to finding those missing puzzle pieces to solve the case. So we’re convinced someone out there knows what has happened or where he may be.”

It’s unclear at this time whether John was even attending school.

“We’re talking about an eight-year-old little boy here. He should have every advantage, an opportunity that any other eight-year-old boy in this country has. So, we want to find out where he is,” Bernd said.

The FBI and the Vancouver police are trying to locate an 8-year-old boy who hasn’t been seen in more than six months.

Breadson John’s family members who live in the area have said he isn’t missing, but they haven’t told police where he is, officials said.

“I don’t believe that law enforcement has ever laid eyes on him,” said Steve Bernd, a spokesman in the FBI’s Seattle office, which is handling the case.

The boy, who also goes by the name Brxsan, apparently was living with his grandparents, Masterino Machuo and Refoela Refalopei, at the Walnut Grove Landing apartments in the 4700 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue in Vancouver. A “community member” contacted Washington Child Protective Services last year, prompting a June 17 welfare check by police.

Machuo and Refalopei have not cooperated with the investigation, officials said. They were charged in December with custodial interference, which is a common charge in cases where a family member kidnaps a child.

“If it was me, and the authorities were looking for my child, I’d be handing over as many new photos as I could to help them find him,” Bernd said. “That’s one of the things that shines the light on [the question of] why these caregivers are not giving us more details. They keep on insisting that he’s not missing. Well, then, where is he?”

The Vancouver Police Department confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive that police officers did not see the child during the June 2022 welfare check. A neighbor who used to see John playing outside told police that the boy hadn’t been around since late May or early June, Bernd said. Machuo and Refalopei later moved out of the apartment complex. They are still living in the Vancouver area, according to the FBI.

So far, there’s no evidence a crime has been committed, Bernd said.

Police are trying to locate John’s parents, but their whereabouts aren’t known. They may have released custody of John to his grandparents and returned to Micronesia last year, officials said.

Is this another case of a deceased child. Not reported because it was not natural or accident. And they could keep getting those checks every month. So sickening.

Breadson John: ‘Uncooperative’ Grandparents Facing Charges, Washington Boy Missing for Nearly 8 Months

The grandparents of an 8-year-old Washington boy who hasn’t been seen missing for nearly eight months are reportedly facing charges as the FBI’s Seattle office joins in the search.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, the Vancouver Police Department conducted a welfare check at Breadson John’s home on June 17, 2022, after community members were concerned. Although little details are known at this time, the FBI announced on January 23 that it has joined the investigation.

The Chronicle reports that Brxsan’s family members told investigators that the child isn’t missing but they refuse to say where he is, according to officials.

“That’s one of the things that shines the light on [the question of] why these caregivers are not giving us more details. They keep on insisting that he’s not missing. Well, then, where is he?”

Police said the only photos they have of Brxsan were found on Facebook and are over a year old at this point. His description, police said, is probably different now.

Bernd said that at this point, police don’t have any evidence that a crime has been committed. The boy’s parents purportedly traveled to Micronesia last year and have not returned.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Agents with the FBI believe a missing 8-year-old boy from Vancouver, Washington, could be in the Kansas City area.

In June 2022, police in Vancouver, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, attempted to locate the Breadson John at his home after the community raised concerns about his welfare.

Breadson, who also goes by the name Brxsan, has not been seen since.

An FBI spokesperson said they believe it’s possible Breadson traveled to the Kansas City area in August 2022 and could remain in the area.

The FBI says Breadson could also have ties to Hawaii, Arizona, Washington and the Trek/Chuuk Islands in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Anyone with information about the boy is asked to call the FBI at 800-225-5324.

Vancouver 8-year-old missing since June found in Missouri

Breadson John, the 8-year-old boy who has been missing since June 2022 was found in Jasper County, Missouri, according to the FBI.

The FBI in Kansas City found John and released him into the custody of Social Services. Washington Child Protective Services is traveling to Missouri to bring him back to Washington state.

“Breadson’s recovery would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the Vancouver Police Department, FBI Kansas City, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office,” said Richard A. Collodi, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Seattle field office. “We are relieved at this outcome and how quickly we were able to resolve it.”

When police spoke with the boy's grandparents, they told detectives he wasn't missing, but would not tell police anything else, the spokesperson said.

The couple, the spokesperson said, then moved out of their apartment a few weeks later.

Last week, he said, agents developed a lead the boy's grandfather had taken him on a plane to Missouri in August, but only the grandfather had returned to Washington.

"They were able to determine an address to a location of where the boy was and safely retrieve him," the spokesperson said.

State charges of custodial Interference have been filed against the boy's grandfather, the FBI said.

What remained under investigation Wednesday by local and federal authorities: Why the grandfather took the boy to Missouri, where the boy stayed, and what the boy was doing there.

Lot's of rural areas to hide out in Jasper County. It does have a couple of decent sized, but still small, cities - Joplin and Carthage, but mostly very rural.

I just wonder who grandpa took him to and why. His parents left him with his grandparents, who took him to...???
Poor kiddo. I'm glad he is alive. I honestly didn't expect it.
