That's what I'd like to clarify. Many families post obituaries for their missing loved ones. Sometimes they have a memorial and post one. Sometimes they post one when declared legally deceased. It appears that in New York it only takes 3 years missing before you can declare someone deceased.
However, all that being said, I could not find an active missing persons report for him with the New York State Missing Persons Clearinghouse...

It does seem odd to me the date of death 12/25/21, I didn't know where "Elmhurst" Was. It's only 6+ miles. Unless he was a UID and got lost?. Didn't speak English. But I would think someone would take him to the police station and they could get an interpreter. IMO Alot of information is missing.
