ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Yeah O.K. Larry. You will be given a mental evaluation on the morning after spending the night in one of our finest detention suites.

A Michigan woman was denied a protection order against her husband two weeks before she and her family were found dead Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide, court documents show.

Tirany Savage, 35, filed for the order June 24 in Michigan’s 34th Circuit Court, claiming her husband, Bo Eugene Savage, had recently bought a gun, repeatedly threatened suicide and refused to leave the family’s home, according to documents published by NBC affiliate WPBN of Traverse City.

“I do not want my safety or my son’s safety in jeopardy,” she wrote, according to the order.

The order was denied three days later by a judge who found insufficient evidence of immediate or irreparable injury, according to documents obtained by the station.

The judge, Troy Daniel, wrote that Savage could request the order in divorce court, the documents show. Tirany Savage filed for divorce last Thursday, the station reported.

Three days later, deputies in Roscommon Township, roughly 115 miles north of Lansing, were dispatched to a home around 3:30 a.m. and found the bodies of Tirany Savage; her husband; her son, Dayton Cowdrey, 13; and her mother, Kim Lynette Ebright, 58, the Roscommon County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

I hope that judge feels like :poop:

The founder of Texas EquuSearch, the volunteer search and rescue organization that has assisted missing persons cases around the country for more than 20 years, has been awarded more than $24 million in a wrongful death lawsuit over the cold case abduction and murder of his daughter.

Tim Miller founded EquuSearch in August 2000 in honor of his daughter Laura Miller, who was abducted in 1984, when she was 16. Her remains were found along with those of three other women two years later.

Although no suspect has been charged in Laura Miller’s death, Miller sued Clyde Edwin Hedrick, a convicted killer and the man he believes is responsible. The original petition alleges that Hedtrick "abducted and killed" Laura Miller after she left her Texas home for a walk on Sept. 10, 1984.

I remember her picture. So not only was she killed, But found with 2 others. So there is technically another serial killer that was roaming then. And from 1984, I don't think they will find out who it is. I hope they do. And that's pretty stupid to dump 3 bodies in 1 place. That makes me think they are from or know the area. But couldn't be too close or after 3 he probably would have been caught. Trucker?. Drove through there on a regular basis. He could kill and be gone. It's the 3 together that get me that someone would take that chance. Does that mean they ARE from the area and so he knew what was going on and knew no body had been found before dumping each one?.

I hope he sees that money.

This is disgusting. It is not okay but even if say a parent has his/her hands full and a ton of stress and loses it, that is one thing and not okay but putting your child's body in a garbage can or dumpster??? This may not be the biggest part of a case or evidence sometimes but for me just looking at a case it is HOW COULD YOU. Let's say again that it wasn't intended, the person lost it or had no coping skills, no temper management but then AFTER the fact or perhaps unintentional act they throw their child away like GARBAGE to save their own arse...? THAT to me is aggravating!!! Dumpsters, trash cans, etc. :(

Don't make this political.

“Having released this determination, OCME will not comment further on the investigation,” the office said in a statement.

An official with direct knowledge of the matter told the outlet that her injuries match those typically suffered falling down the stairs.

It may happen, but every time I hear about someone falling down the stairs, it's not what killed them. Of course that's from watching all the crime shows I do. It seems odd to me. "Blunt impact injuries"?

Agree. Her falling down the stairs didn't kill her, the injury/injuries from falling are what did it.

If you recall, Bob Saget died of blunt impact injury from a fall.
