Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger

Katie Wells of Rigby tells EastIdahoNews.com her nephew, Dylan Rounds, was last seen Saturday in Lucin, Utah, on the farm where he is working. Rounds apparently called several family members last Wednesday after having a “weird run-in” with a guy on a gravel road.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck. He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically. Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride,” Wells explains.

Wells says the man was spotted in Montello, Nevada several days later asking about Dylan and there are reports that the man got a ride to Dylan’s trailer on Saturday.

“We don’t believe anything was ransacked,” Wells explains. “Dylan is missing, his phone is missing and his wallet.”

Noting Dylan’s age, Wells says some people seem to think Dylan ran off, but she suspects foul play.

“He is an old soul, farm boy at heart. All he wants to do is get up and work all day every day. He isn’t interested in partying, he isn’t interested in travel. He never dated in high school. He’s not your typical 19-year-old,” Wells says.

Dylan’s mom, Candice Cooley, lives in Twin Falls and his dad, Justin Rounds, lives in Ucon. They are actively involved in the search and are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds him or knows where he might be.

I'm not sure it is a farm. My only clue about what goes on there is that the building where the grain truck was parked was referred to as a shop.
he's farming it, whether crops or livestock. That entire area is just dirt, rock and scrub unless somebody has physically moved that to do anything with it. Dirt and rock piles would be probably anywhere there where people have done anything to the land for roads, buildings, etc. I am sure the mom would have been blaring out that it was new if it was to have it searched.

You're saying that he was farming the property where the grain truck was found? If so, I'm not aware of that, just that he was working on buying it.

They've said they searched the dirt pile anyway, new or not.
Not sure how thorough the search was, if it's still standing. Probed it maybe.
Yeah, I knew they'd said they did, it's just that I still wonder precisely where that dirt came from.

revisiting this video and looking at the property that has many, many dirt piles. The truck definitely does not look like it's been "power washed" at all. It looks like it was rained on. Rain will not get rid of the mud in the wheel wells and no tracks should mean it was there before the rain or very little rain. No mud ON the tires seems to say it was there before the rain. The mud in the wheel wells could be from previous rains. If somebody had power washed it and removed the mud from the tires, they would have removed much of it from the wheel wells in the process just from over spray.

Just so it's clear, that property is Dylan's farm; it's where he lived.
notice the dirt equipment and look at all of the dirt work that has been done clearing and leveling.
That property is 5 miles west of Dylan's farm; it's where his grain truck was found inside that building and behind that building is the dirt pile, which to me, appears as an oddly placed, lone pile of dirt, since no, I don't see any other such piles.

Re results of the rain, (I've also done some revisiting, lol) it hadn't been clear to me which property Dylan's mother was referring to when she described deep ruts caused by the grain truck, but now that I've re-watched the HeavyD video, it's clear to me that she was referring to Dylan's farm.

Yeah, I guess he could have purchased it from a farmer...but heck if I know/knew anything about how farmers go about their business before looking into this case, and you know, it's always unanticipated what all I end up learning about when I dive deep into these cases! Now, I don't know if I go about it the way others do, but I usually find myself exploring and studying all sorts things I'd never even thought about, never imagined!
Btw, just fyi, (per the mother, who said it was irrelevant, which is true, but still, I was interested to know) the seed he was using is called Triticale. Spring Triticale Seed for Sale - Cool Season Forages - Millborn Seeds
I've learned a lot over the years no doubt researching one never knows what in various cases and if I don't do it, others do and one learns from them. Forensics and pathology of course would be key but so many other things like you are doing here with seed and farming, in the Kelsey Berreth case we did some looking into a certain type of security camera system a neighbor had, in Morphew they have looked at various things or stores or products the husband was known to be buying or where he claimed to stop at, etc. Bobcat (machinery) dynamics and attachments, bobcat/mountain lion (animalsl) habits and ways with prey, etc. I could go on. Yes, it is very education to follow crime in many ways and one just never knows what one may find themselves reading up on lol.

Never heard of that seed but I assume it is grain? I'm no farmer but I was married to one years ago and grew up around nothing but farms and farming families and friends. I know the basics but am certainly no expert. Mostly dairy farming it was in this neck of the woods but all had crops too although most of it was for feed for the livestock. And even though dairy, they still slaughtered for their own personal beef. My MIL years ago actually bawled her eyes out when a cow birthed a male (not worth anything and not a milker when grown). I was flabbergasted she seemed more upset over that than the loss of any family member. I don't think they were hurting financially so why it was such a huge deal I'm not sure to this day... But I am sidetracking lol.

that I agree with. Where my parents lived, there are so few things that are online, mostly because it's so rural that many do not have internet or are too old school to think of getting an online presence.
Yeah I see it a lot here too. You can miss some good places to stay, bar/grills, supper clubs and more trusting just the internet. One would think from phone directories they would still find their way online but they aren't going to come up on most popular things like tripadviser and some of those, if anywhere. The ones that know to at least try to do an online presence but don't know how or won't spend the money will maybe get a FB page when people push them too and even then if someone isn't keeping it up and posting fairly regularly well it doesn't do much either... But some places it works for if they get enough local followers at least and put up daily specials and such (restaurants, etc.). Feed mills most DEFINITELY are unlikely to be online here. Lol. The towns they exist yet in have populations of maybe 25 to 300 people, some of them. Not kidding lol.

Does anyone suspect that that dirt pile and boots were dumped there at the same time?
I have wondered yup. One of my first thoughts on hearing it. Also wondered if they have checked the dirt pile and under it but seems a no brainer they would have one would think...

Yeah the locations in this case have confused me a couple of times but if it is where I am thinking and the pic I am thinking it seems that all that is there is a big shop/shed/building mostly and not a farm. I remember wondering why his camper wasn't parked near that building thinking it would be the nearest thing with power, etc. to hook up to easily and I thought it was part of the overall area acreage, etc. Or is it five miles from his camper, that particular building? Confusing.

Looking at that bottom picture that dirt pile sticks out like a sore thumb imo. I'm not even sure I understand why you'd mound rather than smooth dirt in such flatland and when it is probably mostly sand or dust anyway...?

I too find the dirt pile odd. It sticks out/stands out.

Dylan's mom said the boots lay like how boots would if someone threw them and how they would fall or flop. What though are the odds they would both fall if thrown behind a dirt pile? It seems more likely maybe that they were placed behind it but then maybe the pile just obscured the boots from a distance is what they mean. Who knows in this case... Sigh.\

I know one thing, they should excavate that area both the pile and what surrounds it and where the boots were. For some reason I can't help but think maybe someone made him or someone else dig a grave, hence the pile of dirt. I mean it is a no brainer they would look in that dirt pile, etc. right? So they have I hope...

Never heard of that seed but I assume it is grain?
I had to look it up! You know, I've used those words interchangeably, but have since learned that the seed is what's planted and the grain is what's harvested and used for food.

I wonder what the property owner could tell us about that dirt pile...and...what he thinks- or knows (I'm not yet convinced that the boots weren't there prior) about the circumstance of the boots.

I thought this sounded like it was almost unusual. A smallish pile of dirt in a flat desert with boots behind it wasn't it? Or do I have that wrong?
No, you have that right. In the HeavyD video, it was pointed out that from the road, the boots were on the other side of the dirt pile.

Yeah, that building is 5 miles from his camper/farm.
For power at his camper/farm, he used a generator.

I keep wondering about this too. He doesn't seem like the type, but it would be possible in my mind that Dylan got new boots (maybe because these got blood on them, possibly from something innocent like a bloody nose or a small farming accident) and tossed his old ones out there. Honestly the only reason that makes sense in my mind as to why his boots would be off of his person.
I just don't see him taking them off and leaving them there to walk barefoot, and it wouldn't make sense for a potential perp to take / have him take off the boots out there either.

Yeah, that building is 5 miles from his camper/farm.

And the pond was used for water per his mother. As for generators for power with the price of gas and how far he likely had to travel for it, that would get exorbitant if that was his only source of power. I'm sure we are not going to get this information but what was Dylan living on fpr ,money I wonder? Did he get a paycheck, a regular one? I mean he is owner not hired hand right? Did he have money set aside from a former crop, etc. maybe... Because gas for running seed or grain trucks to town, gas even for his own pickup and for a generator for the trailer, going out to eat and such, there had to be some money incoming. We know the truck was in dad's name as was the cell.

Yeah I probably have used both words that way too and yet I should know better. In fact it is why I have tried to clarify that feed mills often also sell seed. even though the name of the facility is "feed" mill.

Yeah it isn't only the boots that bother, that dirt pile BOTHERS me. It does just seem out of place to me and has from the start, assuming we have the full picture of the area of course. It's tough to tell from pictures sometimes and one would be surprised when present. Maybe if there it wouldn't seem odd seeing it at all...

Awhile ago I noted that crime was very high in the Montello area. Now I wonder how many murders or missing people cases there are in the general neck of the woods. I'd also like to know if anyone else is missing recently or was murdered. Because if this is foul play, one would think the perp(s) wouldn't just have done something like this for the FIRST time or only once in their lives...

Indeed.
From where I sit- until I know who dumped that dirt and when- I think the most logical explanations are: 1) Dylan had other boots, and 2) whomever dumped that dirt, also dumped those boots.
Now, in the above interview, @4:50, the father said that the boots were "by an old junk hole where they burn trash", which suggests to me that the intention wasn't to throw them away or destroy them...
