Authorities searching for man, child missing in Big Bend National Park

The National Park Service, Big Bend National Park and the Federal Bureau of Investigation El Paso Field Office, Alpine Resident Agency Office, are asking for information from the public about a missing man and child who recently traveled to the park.

On Jan. 28, the last day they were seen, Hector Flores, Jr., 49, and his daughter, Luna Flores, 9, traveled from Fort Stockton to Big Bend National Park, in a blue 2005 Dodge 1500 truck.

The truck was later found abandoned along the northern end of the remote Old Ore Road, with many of their personal belongings inside. Authorities believe that they may be traveling on foot inside the park, without the proper clothing or equipment to do so.

Several agencies have joined the search to hike the area, drive the backcountry roads and search from the air using helicopters.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the FBI Tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov. Those who provide a tip may remain anonymous.

Texas father, daughter go missing during hike at Big Bend National Park

A search is underway for a Texas man and his 9-year-old daughter after the pair went missing during a hike in Big Bend National Park more than a week ago.

An investigation into their disappearance is underway and agencies are currently searching for them by helicopter and on-the-ground teams hiking the area. Officials said while their exact location is unknown, investigators believe they may still be in the park.

No Amber Alert so there's immediate danger other than they haven't been heard from correct?
I don't think it's an "abduction" scenario for an AMBER Alert. But I think it's pretty clear there is immediate danger. They've been potentially lost in a national park for almost 2 weeks. Being that his vehicle was found with their belongings in it... If they still had their vehicle, or the vehicle was found in a city, then maybe there wouldn't be as much worry.
Sounds like they may either be legitimately lost in the park, or he had a mental health break and decided to do something drastic. But indications are that they believe they're still in the park without the proper clothing or gear. Huge searches of the park area.
I haven't seen anything about a "custodial parent" asking for her, or anything saying she wasn't returned from a visit. If he's her custodial parent he does have the right to take her somewhere. But it seems like they have reason to believe they haven't just gone off somewhere and dropped contact. I could be misreading the whole thing though.

What in the world. Glad they're safe...

Big Bend National Park authorities locate missing man and child from Texas

After missing for over two weeks, Hector Flores Jr. and his daughter Luna have been successfully located alive and well in the Mexican state of Coahuila adjacent to Big Bend National Park, according to a news release from the National Park Service.

On Sunday, February 13, the National Park Service was notified by residents of a remote Mexican community across the Rio Grande that a man and young girl fitting the description of Hector and Luna were in the area and seeking to purchase food.

Mexico State Police were able to reach the area and confirm their identities Monday afternoon. Both are reported to be in healthy condition. The two were detained by Mexican authorities and will be returned to the United States to reunite with family members Tuesday, February 15.

From the start in this one, because of the location, I thought maybe it had something to do with immigration or maybe a father taking a child from the mother and fleeing towards family in Mexico or something. Didn't want to jump to that conclusion but the locale made me wonder and the lack of information. Still no answers but I am glad they are safe. Very glad.

Maybe he has a girlfriend down there?
