Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

In a way I hope he's there. But there is a reason she doesn't have custody. More of a concern is the older they get the greater risks they take in where they go and what they do.

Yeah uh. I am too. But that's normal. But I am confused by this also. Stolen van with a stolen plate. Child secured in cargo area in car seat with a bungee cord. Dirty clothes and diapers and items that could have hurt the infant. The child is definitely not theirs. They shouldn't have any, That's for sure. Home birth ppfffttt. I don't know who this child is. Stolen, Mother couldn't take care of it and gave to them. Possibly the mother was from another country and she didn't understand and they lied to her. I can't see these people being able to buy an infant.

One farmer's seaweed discovery could help slow methane emissions — and change the world

Researchers found that feeding seaweed to cattle would dramatically reduce greenhouse gases, says farmer Joe Dorgan.

Dorgan knew instinctively that seaweed would be healthy for cows, but research revealed an unintended consequence: seaweed made cows less gassy.

Globally, methane is responsible for 30% of global warming. Of that, livestock, such as cattle, account for about one-third of all methane emissions.

"They [researchers] found out that feeding seaweed to cattle would reduce greenhouse gases by as high as 40%," Dorgan said.

Digesting roughage requires extra digestion from cows and causes cows to burp more. Those burps emit methane, a heat-trapping greenhouse gas that's 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

In a year, a cow emits as much greenhouse gas as a small car. Because animal numbers have skyrocketed to help feed a growing human population, livestock now accounts for 15% of global emissions.
