'We don't have any clues whatsoever': Search continues for missing 10-year-old girl in Bee County

Law enforcement agencies across the Coastal Bend continue to search for a girl that went missing overnight Monday, Dec. 13.

Sophia Aguilar, 10, was last seen around 1:30 a.m. in the Windridge Subdivision off of FM 351 in Bee County, officials said.

"We've been conducting an extensive ground search and also with social media for a 10-year-old girl who, we believe she left home around 1:30 in the morning," Bee County Sheriff Alden Southmayd said.

A family member heard a door open and close around that time, Southmayd said, and then noticed Sophia was missing. Rumors of the girl being found are not true, officials said.

"We've had two different scent specific canine searches that haven't come up with anything," Southmayd said. "We've had Coast Guard helicopters in the air, DPS drones in the air, and like I said its been a very extensive ground search and that's still going on, but right now we don't have any clues whatsoever."

Several agencies have been called in to assist with the search, including the Coast Guard.

Officials are not sure if the girl ran away or was possibly picked up by someone in the area.

"We don't have evidence either way," Southmayd said.

If you see Sophia, you can call any law enforcement agency or 911.

At 10 or 11 years old why was she not wearing pajamas @ 1:30am? Did she meet someone on a social media app? I'd hate to think that someone in her home isn't telling the whole story. There must be more than what we're being told in MSM.

KIds have maybe changed and maybe do things younger than some of us did but in no way would I have not been scared to leave home at 1:30 a.m. in the morning, no way, no how. Dark, strangers out, nowhere to go, where do you go at 1:30 at that age??? Or even want to go??

The only way I can see that is if someone she knew picked her up or a custody thing where she went to another family member's. But I assume they have checked all that or are doing so. Is she a biological child, a foster child or an adopted child? We sure see where it is not often the case.

There has to be more to it. Imo. Was she upset? She was dressed or somewhat dressed it sounds like at that hour of the morning. So someone heard her leave but did they go after her?

No dog scent and sounds like they have nothing to go on. I know these questions I pose don't have answers, they are just what I wonder.

I'll already ask what is becoming a normal question in most of these cases--when was the last time anyone outside the household last saw her???

Most know I am not a believer in a child just "happens" to wander off or run off and an unplanned abduction by a stranger just happens... Someone she talked to online or came to trust who was a fake identity maybe... But not a random total stranger. Not saying it couldn't happen but I don't believe it does most of the time and is against the odds.

I wonder what started the false rumor she was found...

So if she was last seen at 130am AND supposedly left about 130, did whomever saw her then actually see her leave? There's so much missing here.

It sounds as if a CAMERA (maybe doorbell cam?) may have picked her up leaving at that time. They’d also know her clothes that way. Or maybe they’re just going off of a household member saying they heard the door at that time so they assumed it was her leaving.

Also interesting is that they don’t typically deploy such massive searches for a potential “runaway”, even at age 10. Coast Guard? They’re about 60 miles from the coast. But if that’s a resource they have available to them then kudos for using it!

Is something else on camera we haven’t been told about? Is something not on camera that should have been?

I wonder the same. Did they assume it was someone else until they found her missing...? Or did they get up, realize it was her and go after her or call LE? Or did not realize she was missing until morning and then realized it was her that went out the door they heard....

They are unsure about the wearing of a polo or hoodie though... As to the clothes she was wearing...

The large search I guess after the Laundrie search with the amphibious vehicle, etc. I could take both ways. It started a lot of talk about the attention given some cases and the extensive searches versus others...

There is no Amber Alert right? Nor any mention of knowing a vehicle was part of it...

I wonder if they have reason to think she took off or is in the area. We never know until into the case if the child has any medical issues or deals with any problems and that's even if they tell us as time goes on.

Her name sounds familiar to me. Was there another with the same last name maybe? Not related I don't mean, just a missing or murdered child?

Hania Aguilar? She was murdered in NC. Was that who you could have been thinking about?
Yes, that's it! A year ago maybe? I knew the last name sounded familiar with a missing child. Again, not saying they are connected, I just felt I had seen this name before and at first I thought the first name too. They both end with "i-a". Thank you! I thought I was probably wrong.

About fifteen minutes ago Sophia Aguilar was found safe and sound at a residence in Beeville. An investigation regarding these events is ongoing. Sophia arrived at the residence and the owner called authorities immediately. There is no indication at this time that Sophia was harbored by anyone

Glad she is safe but it doesn't make much sense. She must not have went there right away or she would have been found far earlier in the day. Where was she in the meantime? A ten year old? Or the reports she was found were right but they denied it for some reason.
