Family pleads for help finding CPS special education teacher who disappeared near Bronzeville home

It has been two days since anyone has heard from Linda Brown.

Her family spent Monday retracing the Bridgeport teacher's last steps and calling area hospitals but have turned up nothing. Now, they are pleading with the public to help them bring her home safely.

"We don't know where she is. We need to find her because I'm breaking down and I don't know what to do," said Antwon Brown, Linda's husband.

Chicago police said Linda was last seen in the 4500-block of South Martin Luther King Drive, not far from where she lives, on Saturday. But flyers with Linda's photo are now being circulated online and throughout the Chicago area.

Antwon says he last saw his wife on Friday night. The couple watched a movie at their Bronzeville home and then went to bed.

"Everything was fine. Next morning I woke up, it was like 8:35 a.m., and she was gone. No sign of her. I thought she went to acupuncture because she goes to acupuncture on Saturdays," Antwon said.

But Antwon says the 53-year-old never showed up to her regularly scheduled appointment. And by Saturday afternoon, no one in Linda's family could get ahold of her.

"The hours that went past around 1:30, 2 p.m. I'm starting to wonder, like, 'What's going on?' She hasn't called me, because she normally would call me and tell me where she is going. She never did," Antwon said.

The special education teacher at Chicago Public Schools' Robert Healy Elementary School was set to return to work on Monday. Healy's principal sent out a letter alerting the school's community with a plea to contact police with any information.

Linda's husband says she drives a blue Honda Civic. So far, CPD have not been able to find her vehicle, which they say has an Illinois plate number of CX57470.

Husband issues desperate plea for missing wife who disappeared after leaving home for acupuncture appointment

A Chicago husband has made a heartfelt plea for his wife who went missing after leaving home for a routine acupuncture appointment.

Linda Brown, 53, disappeared on Saturday and was last seen near the 4500 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Her husband, Antwon, issued a public appeal for help as the search for his missing spouse continues.

'I'm broke down,' he told FOX 32. 'I don't know what to do. I've done everything.'

Antwon added: 'I'm talking to people. We've got people searching for her. I'm out of options.'

He said the last time he had seen Linda was on Friday night when they watched a movie together and she went to bed early.

When Antwon woke up the next morning, his wife was no longer there.

'I woke up at 8.45am and she was gone,' he told the outlet.

However, Antwon did not immediately suspect that anything was wrong with his wife.

'She took her purse and credit cards, but I'm thinking she was at acupuncture,' he added.

But when she did not show up for her scheduled appointment and she did not respond to his messages and calls, Linda's family contacted police to report her missing.

'She normally answers when I call,' he told NBC Chicago.

Antwon said that he was 'terrified' by his wife's disappearance and desperate for her to return safely.

'I am just shaking,' he said. 'I need my wife home.'

According to a missing persons flyer shared by the Chicago Teachers Union, Linda was on her way to Wicker Park for the appointment when she went missing.

Linda is currently a special education teacher at Chicago's Robert Healy Elementary, per the school's website.

She was scheduled to return to work yesterday after taking a leave of absence, NBC Chicago reported.

Linda had faced mental health challenges and was receiving help prior to her disappearance.

'That was her main thing, helping kids. She loved it,' Lisa Quintana, Brown's sister, told WGN–TV.

She claimed Linda had 'never missed a day of work,' making her disappearance even more uncharacteristic.

Quintana added: 'She always went and she always had a smile on her face. Positive attitude all the time.'

She insisted that Linda would not desert her loved ones on purpose – especially her husband.

'No matter where she goes [or] what she's doing, he knows where she is at,' Quintana said.'

Her sister said Linda was 'in contact with Antwon all the time', which set off alarm bells when she stopped responding to him.

According to Chicago police, Linda may now be near the 2200 block of West North Avenue.

Investigators said Linda could be driving a blue Honda Civic with an Illinois plate numbered CX57470.

She 'may be in need of medical attention,' police warned, although no further details were provided.

Has he or LE tried/pinged her cell phone? Was he able to leave a message? Something sounds weird here. Do they sleep in the same bedroom?
You know he's going to be the prime suspect. I would assume they do. He may be a heavy sleeper. Or he heard her get ready and leave.

She must have been sighted. See below two links.

However this article in the link below states she was last seen in the 45000 block of Martin Luther King Drive.

"Linda Brown, 53, was last seen Saturday afternoon in the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bronzeville, about two miles southwest of the White Sox’s Rate Field, driving a blue 2021 Honda Civic to her weekly acupuncture appointment before she vanished, police said."

He didn't immediately think something wrong with his wife because she took what she normally would. That's an odd statement. After not being able to get ahold of her I can understand that statement.

If she was seen, the husband is unlikely to have done anything to her unless she came home but then he'd have to get rid of her and he rar.

I'm getting different sense here. She was on leave with mental health challenges which she was getting help for it was said, and she had to go back to school, her leave was up... I'm thinking she took off and felt not ready to go back maybe or something, or mental health played in... I wonder if her sighting 2 miles west of whatever it was lines up with any route she would have taken from home to acupuncture or if it's an odd area for her to have been in...

I'm not thinking foul play here but of course it could be.

I'm more worried she did something to herself than anything else. I HOPE though she is just holed up somewhere.

They don't announce where they are and they are in far more places than you would expect and getting more and more every day
Now that I know what they look like here, I see them all over the place. Nearly every major intersection and all the highways and even in some big box parking lots. Nearly every cop car here has them, too.

Oh. O.K. Thanks for clarifying. :nodding:
