Mother fears the worst after daughter vanishes in small Skagit County town

A desperate family is searching for a woman who vanished last month in a small Skagit County town, and her mother fears she may be dead.

Krista Hunt was last seen around Jan. 25 in Concrete, Washington, with a man believed to be her boyfriend. According to her mother, Pamela Hunt, the couple got into a truck and ran out of gas near the Lone Star Restaurant. Krista allegedly got out to walk away — and has not been seen since.

"She was my best friend, my only daughter," Pamela said, wiping tears from her eyes.

Pamela says her daughter's boyfriend was abusive. She claims that in the weeks before the disappearance, she took Krista to the hospital after a particularly bad altercation.

"She did in fact have a broken leg. She said he had boot-stomped her leg and her chest," Pamela said. "She said one time he set a timer and told her he was going to hit her every 15 minutes."

Two days after Krista was reported missing, her boyfriend reportedly shot himself at a bar in Concrete. He survived but has not been charged in connection with the disappearance.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the boyfriend is a suspect. They say the investigation remains "very active."

Pamela said her daughter was not the type to simply walk away from her life.

"She was a very independent person. Not the kind of person you would think would be trapped in an abusive relationship," she said.

Now, clinging to her daughter's dog, Scout — the only connection she has left to Krista — Pamela is pleading for answers.

"There would be a sign of her if she wasn't hidden. And I feel like she's been hidden," Pamela said.

Pamela believes someone in Concrete knows what happened to her daughter and hopes that person will come forward.

"The best thing is to let her come home and not let us be wondering every day what happened to her," she said.

His attempt on his own life of course failed. Isn't that usually the case?

I pray she's all right but I highly doubt it so I hope the family gets full justice and she is found.

Vigil held in Concrete for missing people in Skagit, Whatcom counties

Family and friends of Krista J. Hunt and other missing individuals from the area gathered Sunday at Silo Park in Concrete for a candlelight vigil to honor those who have gone missing in Skagit and Whatcom counties.

The vigil was organized by Hunt’s family and friends, who have been searching for her since she went missing in early February. She was last seen in Concrete.

“There are a lot of people missing out here, and there’s people currently still going missing,” said Cara Kuhlmann, a longtime friend of Hunt.

According to 2025 data from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, the state ranks eighth nationally in the number of active missing-persons cases.

As of March 2026, about 9% of active cases listed in the state on NamUs were last seen in Skagit or Whatcom counties.

Several dozen people attended the vigil Sunday, held on the southern side of Silo Park, in view of drivers on Highway 20.

It included a table with Hunt’s missing-person flyers, candles, and her favorite flowers — sunflowers. Next to the table, snacks and beverages were provided for attendees to mingle.

At the park’s southernmost point, on Highway 20, five signs displayed the names of missing individuals and urged people to speak out.

“We stand vigil for our missing loved ones and yours,” reads the first sign. The last sign says, “Where are they? Someone knows!”

Most of the names were brought to the Hunt family’s attention through Facebook groups and pages dedicated to finding missing people in the state.

“We just all need to help each other,” said Angela Anderson.

So many do it. It is so cowardly. They should just kill themselves. Sorry for what you did?. Should have thought about it before. Too late. Or they don't want to face the consequences. Either way it's too late. He was very abusive before. I saw a broken leg, and stomped on her chest. I wish women like this could get help right away. A punch or similar is bad enough. THAT kind will definitely kill you.

If he feels so dang bad, he should tell us where she is so his mom can start to try to heal.
Exactly. They often do that. Their last thing they can control. This is where plea deals come in. It makes me so angry. They know they can do it. Washington is a death penalty state. Ridgeway got a deal if he lead LE to more victims. But he said about 70 "Sounded right" They got him for 49. So he still gets to breathe. I get infuriated just looking at him.I will guess right now this will turn out the same.

No ID yet. And she’s far from the only one missing in that area. But…

Coroner confirms remains found near Concrete are missing woman Krista Hunt

The Skagit County Coroner has confirmed that human remains found earlier this month belong to Krista J. Hunt, 37, of Concrete.

Hunt had previously been reported missing Feb. 1, according to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office. The coroner confirmed her identity Wednesday, and next of kin have been notified. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

Pamela Hunt said her daughter’s boyfriend was abusive and claimed that in the weeks before the disappearance she took Krista Hunt to the hospital after an altercation.

“She did in fact have a broken leg. She said he had boot-stomped her leg and her chest,” Pamela Hunt said. “She said one time he set a timer and told her he was going to hit her every 15 minutes.”

Two days after Krista Hunt was reported missing, her boyfriend reportedly shot himself at a bar in Concrete. He survived but has not been charged in connection with the disappearance.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the boyfriend is a suspect and say the investigation remains active.

'He stole 60 years': Boyfriend charged in death of missing Skagit County woman

Juan Delgado, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Krista Hunt, whose body was recovered from the Skagit River weeks after she went missing.

Hunt was last seen with Delgado in Concrete at the end of January. Investigators say they found her blood and clumps of her hair in Delgado's truck. After Hunt disappeared, detectives say Delgado attempted to take his own life and told police he "missed Krista."

The Skagit County coroner was unable to determine an exact cause of death but noted injuries including a broken jaw, broken ribs and a broken neck. Delgado allegedly told friends Hunt had been hit by a car, but investigators say that is unsubstantiated. He refused to answer questions from investigators.

Delgado is being held on $1 million bail.

Murder defendant believed to have killed woman by hitting her with vehicle

Law enforcement believes Juan Manuel Delgado Jr. killed Krista J. Hunt in late January by hitting her with his vehicle.

Delgado, a Concrete 42-year-old, will be arraigned Thursday on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of the 37-year-old Hunt. He was charged in Hunt’s death on Friday.

The investigation into Hunt’s death has led investigators to believe that Delgado killed Hunt by hitting her with his vehicle on Jan. 26 along Highway 20 near Concrete, then dumped her body into a creek that drains into the Skagit River.

Court records state that a search of a truck used by Delgado found blood inside the truck, a jacket with blood and hair similar to Hunt’s in the bed of the truck, and recent damage to the exterior.

An autopsy performed after Hunt’s body showed multiple broken or fractured ribs, multiple broken vertebrae, a broken jaw and multiple bruises of the torso and extremities, according to court records.

The medical examiner conducting the autopsy determined a substantial amount of force would have been necessary to break Hunt’s vertebrae.

Delgado is being held in the Skagit County Community Justice Center on $1 million bail for the murder charge.
