Officials believe Twin Cities boy's disappearance to be "against his will," person of interest established

Law enforcement officials say they believe 16-year-old Jordan Dupree Collins Jr., who went missing weeks ago in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, was taken "against his will," and a person of interest has been established.

In a press conference on Wednesday afternoon held with Collins' family, Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise says he doesn't think this is a case of a teenager running away.

"We believe his disappearance is against his will. We fear worse," Wise said.

He didn't identify the person of interest, but noted no one is in custody and no criminal charges have been filed.

Wise says since Collins' disappearance, his cellphone has only been turned on once for three minutes. He hasn't talked to any family members or his girlfriend, and he hasn't logged onto social media. His mother, Ashley Berry, says her son also hasn't claimed his allowance through CashApp.

Berry held hands with other family members at the press conference before making a painful plea to find her child.

"If you have a soul, if you have a heart, just say something, please," Berry said. "I just know he's not lost. Wherever he is, he's somewhere that he doesn't want to be."

Collins — who is commonly known by the nickname, Manny — was last seen on May 8 near the 4900 block of University Avenue Northeast.

"Multiple individuals have been interviewed, and forensic evidence has been collected and is being processed," Wise said in a statement released after the press conference. "Coordinated searches have been conducted at parks and in the neighborhood."

Business owners and residents with surveillance cameras in the area are asked to review footage captured between May 8 and May 12, and submit photos and videos if they spot Collins or anything suspicious.

Wise says his office and police are being assisted in this case by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Northstar Search and Rescue — adding the agencies are "using all available resources to locate Manny."

"The family and law enforcement believe that somebody knows something," Wise said.

'Please just say something': Mother pleads for missing son who disappeared against his will

A Columbia Heights mother pleaded for the return of her teenage son on Wednesday at a news conference alongside family and local authorities.

"If somebody knows something, if you have a soul, if you have a heart, please just say something," said Ashley Berry, the mother of Jordan Collins Jr.

"I hope his father says something," added the boy's mom, saying Manny was last known to be with his father.

Berry added that she had remained in communication with her son for days after he disappeared, but his phone has been off since May 11.

Authorities believe the boy was "disappeared" against his will, according to Columbia Heights Police Chief Matt Markham.

Police investigating the disappearance of a 16-year-old Columbia Heights boy say they have established a person of interest in the case, and say that they believe he went missing "against his will."

Jordan Collins Jr., commonly known as "Manny," was last seen on May 8 near the 4900 block of University Avenue Northeast, where he was wearing a white ribbed tank top with red/black plaid pants.

My sister lived in Columbia Heights for decades on end, and I don' mean just a couple. It used to be a fairly nice area. Older homes, well maintained, good people.

She worked downtown but never would have lived there.

The last decade or two Heights was not the same. She now finally retired and moved out of the cities all together after probably close to 50 years there.

I'm sharing this as so many think they live in this decent neighborhood but many of them change over time.

Disappearance of Manny Collins: What we know so far

Law enforcement is still searching for a missing Columbia Heights teen who disappeared against his will nearly three weeks ago.

Jordan "Manny" Collins has been missing for nearly three weeks. He was last seen on May 8 in the area of University Avenue and 49th Avenue Northeast in Columbia Heights. Collins' mom, Ashley Berry, said he was staying with his father at the time.

Coordinated searches have been conducted around the neighborhood and at nearby parks, but Collins has not been located. Authorities say forensic evidence has been collected and is currently being processed.

Investigators interviewed several individuals, including Collins' father, but law enforcement would not comment on whether he was cooperating.

Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise said they have some investigative leads and a person of interest in Collins' disappearance. He would not identify this individual to "protect the integrity of the investigation" but said so far, this person has "not been helpful." No one has been arrested or formally charged.

The sheriff added that they don’t believe there is a threat to the community, and this incident is specific to Collins, but "nothing is off the table at this point."

Law enforcement is asking businesses and residents near the area of 49th and University Avenue to review video between May 8 and May 12 for any signs of Collins or other suspicious footage. Residents in the area are also asked to check their property for any suspicious items.

"We believe that somebody knows something. And maybe if it’s just in the back of their mind somewhere, that they’ll reach out through the BCA or through the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office to share that bit of information, which might be critical as we search to locate Manny," said Sheriff Wise.

Disappearance of Manny Collins: Uncle of missing teen speaks out

Investigators returned Thursday afternoon to the apartment building where 16-year-old Manny Collins was last known to be staying with his father, walking out with what appeared to be evidence bags as the search for the missing teen continues.

Investigators returned Thursday afternoon to the apartment building where 16-year-old Manny Collins was last known to be staying with his father, walking out with what appeared to be evidence bags as the search for the missing teen continues.

Wilson said he believes his nephew is still alive but may be held against his will. He has reached out to his estranged brother—Collins’ father—but said his brother is not cooperating with investigators.

"My nephew is missing, and the last person he was seen with—it’s not rocket science," Wilson said. "We’re not building rockets, man. It’s common sense. He’s yelling, ‘I need a lawyer, I need a lawyer.’"

Wilson said he and Collins have a close relationship and speak frequently. He said Collins never indicated that his father was violent, but noted the two have had disagreements about religion. It remains unclear if those differences are connected to the teen’s disappearance.

"If you’ve got a soul, if you’ve got a heart, why would you want to be a part of something like that?" Wilson said. "Why would you even want to put somebody through that?"

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that investigators are continuing to follow leads and are working to identify potential search areas. The agency said it may request additional assistance for future formal searches.

"All roads point to one thing," Wilson said. "I just want my nephew to come and enjoy his summer so we can do these bike rides and go to the lake, man, and just chill. That’s what he likes to do, and that’s what I like to do."

Religion? To each their own as long as however they believe has a core of being decent to others in it and following basic morals and decency. He is a teen, not unusual they try a new path, so long as it isn't some bad one that harms others, so what?

Mother of missing Twin Cities teen, believed to be taken "against his will," pleads for his safe return

A worried Minnesota mother says she hasn't heard from her teenage son in weeks.

Jordan "Manny" Collins Jr., 16, vanished while visiting his father in Columbia Heights on May 8. Investigators think someone took him "against his will."

"This is out of the norm for him," Collins' mother, Ashley Berry, said.

Berry says she can't sleep or eat, and is worried about her only child.

"My mind is racing all over the place. I want to believe that my son is still here in the state and physically here, but it's hard as the days go by to think that," Berry said.

She says Collins has plans and rarely misses a day speaking to her, his grandmother or his girlfriend.

"He has a job interview for Planet Fitness. He would have checked on his grandma, me and his girlfriend. He's a lady's man and he loves his Mom," Berry said.

According to Berry, her son has taken on the role as head of the household.

"He feels like he must be the man and protect the rest of his family. You're 16 and I want you to be a kid as long as possible. That's not your job. But that's him. That's his personality," she said.

Berry says Collins did not like to worry her, so he always made sure to be positive about everything.

"Wednesday before he went missing, he said he was taking a walk to clear his head, and I'm trying to check on him, and I asked, 'Is there anything you want to talk about?' And he said, 'No, do you want to talk about anything? " Berry said.

Her concern is that Collins hasn't used a phone or social media since he disappeared. For now, she is holding on to hope because so many people are searching for him.

"Even his old friends he hasn't seen in months, they've called me, like, 'What do you need me to do?" Berry said.

She is asking for the public's help.

"If you see something, say something, " Berry said.

And praying for the safe return of her son.

"Just come home, just come home," she said.

Police say they do have a person of interest in this case, and they've collected forensic evidence.

Investigators are asking neighbors to check their yards or cameras for anything suspicious.

Sure sounds like a good kid per mom.

I wonder if it was normal to see his dad.

I'm not assuming anything here but there are hints of things to wonder about. Noncooperation for one. And I know how Columbia Heights has changed. It isn't the worst of the neighborhoods in the Cities but it sure isn't what it used to be not even close.

Disappearance of Manny Collins: Police share latest on the search

Authorities say they have interviewed additional people in connection to the disappearance of Manny Collins, who went missing "against his will" nearly a month ago.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office and Columbia Heights Police Department on Monday provided an update on the investigation into 16-year-old Collins' disappearance, saying they are using all available resources to "bring answers to Manny's loved ones and community."

"Detectives are canvassing areas of interest. Forensic testing of possible evidence is ongoing. Additional people have also been interviewed and leads continue to be followed up. Larger searches are being considered, and we will reach out to the public if assistance is needed. To protect the integrity of the investigation, public details are limited. As more public details become available, we will share them," the update said.

Sixteen-year-old Jordan "Manny" Collins remains missing from Columbia Heights, with authorities on Monday saying they are considering "larger searches" to find him.

"Local, state, and federal agencies continue to investigate the disappearance of Manny Collins," it said. "All available resources are being used to bring answers to Manny’s loved ones and community.

The sheriff's office said it can't reveal any more information for now "to protect the integrity of the investigation."

Disappearance of Manny Collins: Mother of missing teen pleads for answers

The search for missing 16-year-old Manny Collins continues nearly one month after his disappearance. While hope remains, his mother is growing increasingly concerned about his well-being.

FOX 9’s Karen Scullin sat down with the mother of their missing teen as authorities continue to search for answers in the case.

"I’m being strong for my son. I know I can’t go crazy right now because I have to find him," said Berry.

Each minute, hour, and day that passes, it’s getting tougher for Collins' mother. She prays the rosary for his safe return.

"I’m all over the place to be honest. With my friends, my family, the detectives, and God that’s keeping me strong."

At the time of his disappearance, Collins was temporarily staying with his father, and Berry called him looking for her son. At first, she explained she wasn’t overly concerned.

"I was just playing. I said, 'You know what? I’m gonna put out a missing persons report.’ Cause I’ve said that before. He knows how I am. So, he didn’t answer that day. And then Saturday he answered. He said, 'Ashley, he just went to his girlfriend's house and your grandmother's house,' which that’s not true."

Collins' father has reportedly not been cooperative with the investigation. FOX 9 was there when investigators appeared to leave the father’s apartment with bags of evidence.

"They found a lot of stuff in his house that’s concerning and that’s why they’re going hard like they are now," explained Berry.

When asked if Collins was happy at his father’s house, Berry responded "He was. There were a few things he didn’t agree with his dad about as far as the religion… I guess he was kinda forcing it more. He didn’t really like it but he didn’t tell me he had a problem staying over there. He never said he was in any danger or anything."

Investigators are continuing to conduct searches in various locations. While Collins' family was hopeful for his safety last week, Berry’s outlook has changed.

When asked if she thought her son was ok, Berry responded, "No. It’s hard for me to say that. I don’t, I don’t think he is."

Despite her deepening concern, Berry continues to hope and pray for the safe return of her only child.

"Manny, if you see this, I love you. You have a lot of people that love you and care about you and we want you home," Berry appealed.

There are a few lately and this is one, I am not forming aethin solid opinion on. Something is missing imo. The religion thing has come up a couple of times now. Even touching on that,
still seems lie there must be more and that really is never explained. So she has threatened to report him missing before but plays it off as a joke? And send him there?

Authorities search Elk River landfill in disappearance of Jordan "Manny" Collins Jr.

A search involving multiple agencies is being conducted Friday north of the Twin Cities in the disappearance of 16-year-old Jordan Dupree Collins Jr., who went missing last month.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the search is at the Waste Management Landfill in Elk River, and started on Wednesday.

"At this point in our investigation, information has led us to search the landfill in Elk River," Commander Wayne Heath with the sheriff's office said in a news conference Friday afternoon. "What we're looking for is evidence that can help us identify the whereabouts of Manny. That remains our goal, and we're committed to that."

Heath added that Friday's search was for evidence, and not for human remains or a body. The sheriff's office said this is only one "facet" of the investigation, and officials are following up on other leads.

"We're committed to finding Manny, and that's why we're throwing so many resources at the investigation," Heath said.

Agencies involved in the search include the Columbia Heights Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Not sure I entirely believe that, I think it more likely they are looking for a body. A small piece of evidence would be a lot harder to find. This has been since May...

'I feel like I'm running out of places to look': Columbia Heights teen missing for nearly a month

Sunday marks one month since 16-year-old Manny Collins went missing. He was last seen near the 4900 block of University Avenue in Columbia Heights, and investigators believe he was taken against his will.

"I feel like I'm running out of places to look," said Manny's mother Ashley Berry. Berry says she is still holding out hope, but is beginning to fear that Manny's father may have done something to her son.

"In the beginning, he was cooperating, he was helping look for him, and now that stuff has hit the fan, it's like, you (he) don't want to talk to anybody," Berry said. "So that's a red flag."

Manny was last seen with his father who Berry has not heard from in weeks and is growing increasingly frustrated with. Saturday marks the fourth straight day investigators are searching a landfill near Elk River where they believe some evidence may be located. Authorities have not said what specifically they are looking for at the landfill, but they say they are prepared to search it as long as it takes to find the "next piece of the puzzle."

"As the days go, it's making it worse, because this is the longest I ever went without talking to my son," Berry said.

Officials have identified a person of interest but they are not ready to call them a suspect. Ashley continues to urge the community to keep an eye out for Manny, who she says is overly caring and has a smile you can't forget.

"He's a really good kid, and anybody who's crossed paths with him knows that he has an old soul," Berry said.

Search for Manny Collins: Deputies continue searches at Elk River landfill

Investigators were again searching a landfill in Elk River, as they looked for new leads in the search for missing Columbia Heights teen Manny Collins.

Investigators were out again on Monday at the Elk River landfill for another day of searches.

Last week, deputies said they searched the landfill between Wednesday and Friday for new evidence to help them find Manny.

"Law enforcement remains committed to using all available resources to conduct a thorough investigation in order to find Manny and bring answers to his family," the sheriff's office said on X. "This remains an active investigation and no further information is available at this time."

On Sunday, St. Paul police reported pulling a body from the Mississippi River near Harriet Island.

Monday, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said it had inquired about the body and determined the person found dead wasn't Manny Collins.
