Missing Fort Cavazos soldier last seen leaving Killeen home on May 15

Investigators with the III Armored Corps are requesting the public’s help finding Specialist Craig Chamberlain, a soldier last seen leaving his home in Killeen on May 15.

The soldier’s wife, Cameron Chamberlain, said she last saw her husband that Monday after they had an argument. His chain of command and his family have been unable to contact him since then.

“I believe, absolutely 100 percent, the depression had played a huge role in it,” Cameron said, “I also believe that he’s in grave danger, if he’s still alive.”

Cameron said the past few months on post were hard on her husband, and that contributed to a change in his mental health.

“When I met him, he was a carefree, loving, laid back person. He didn’t have a mean bone in his body,” Cameron said, “He had no hate in his heart. He was a happy man. And (Fort Cavazos) and his leadership completely destroyed him.”

Parents of missing Fort Cavazos soldier ask community for help finding their son

It’s been nine days since anyone has seen Specialist Craig Chamberlain since he left his Killeen home.

While Fort Cavazos and Army CID conduct their investigation, Chamberlain’s parents are on the ground searching for themselves.

They’re looking for bodies of water, fields and abandoned buildings in particular.

The family has received help from individuals, but say the more the merrier in a search this big.

Chamberlain’s parents drove eight hours to begin searching for their son.

“We’re out here by ourselves right now, but we are not out here alone,” said Gorden Chamberlain, Craig’s father, as other groups searched in different areas.

Missing for nearly two weeks now, chamberlain was last seen on May 15 leaving his Killeen home.

Since then, the family hasn’t found any promising leads.

“The Army has officially declared him as a deserter,” said Gorden and his wife, Virginia Chamberlain. At first, we were angry about it but we understand they have to go off the evidence they have.”

“There’s a lot of unanswered questions right now, and that’s what we’re working on,” said Virginia. “Our number one priority above all else is to find my son.”

Wife of missing Texas soldier found dead
Cameron Chamberlain, the wife of missing Army Specialist Craig Chamberlain, has died, according to reports.

KWTX said officials on post confirmed the death on Thursday. The III Armored Corps said it is “deeply saddened” to hear of her death and sent its “deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cameron Chamberlain.”

The cause of her death has not yet been released.

No additional information was available regarding Cameron’s death or if it was related to her husband’s disappearance.

Search team finds Fort Cavazos soldier alive after 11-day disappearance

Fort Cavazos soldier Craig Chamberlain has been found alive by a civilian search team after the Army specialist up and vanished 11 days ago.

"We found our son," Virginia Chamberlain said to 25 News. "He is alive and he will be ok."

The mom said the team of volunteers, who started their search this morning at 10 a.m. in Conder Park, found the missing soldier Friday afternoon near his home in Killeen.

Fort Cavazos command said Craig's spouse, Cam Chamberlain, was found dead earlier this week in the couple's home.

Army criminal investigators are looking into the spouse's death, which is standard procedure if a death happens inside a military member's residence.

"We are thankful that Specialist Chamberlain has been found," said Lt. Col. Zachary Brainard, commander of the 2nd Chemical Battalion at Fort Cavazos. "We will continue to provide him with the care and assistance he needs. We will also continue to collaborate with CID as they conduct a thorough investigation into this matter."

He goes missing.

Wife is found dead.

He is found alive near their home after going missing for 11 days.

Oh.

I have to wonder did no one check the home or check on the wife before this week? Or was her death after the fact of his going missing... Seems unlikely but who knows since they are saying little.

A missing man with a dead wife. Gee what an unusual story, NOT.

But maybe she committed suicide or something all upset over her husband's disappearance but I doubt it.

It sure isn't likely from natural causes because since he is 23, she was likely young and healthy as well.

And he was charged with desertion so some evidence exists I take it that he left of his own accord and for some reason.

Best guess is he ran from trouble and hid of course.

Thanks. Didn't know that but did wonder. Just now came aware of this case. Know little.

So what's your guess? He shut her up or she killed herself? The timing of it all I suspect connects to it all in some way.

She reportedly died of an OD, no idea yet if it was an intentional OD.

It's all a bit sketchy to me though, he was awol for 3 months, she supposedly didn't know he wasn't going to work, then he is missing for 10 days, his parents give a statement insinuating that his wife's words aren't trustworthy, his wife says he was taking drugs because he was upset with his commanding officer and she believes he is either in grave danger or dead, then she turns up dead and the next day he is miraculously found.

My hinky meter is on fire 🔥

No sh*t. Mine was started before even hearing all this. Now it needs an extinguisher or a full fire department with hoses responding.

I'd normally say thank goodness he was found safe and alive but I'm not sure that's what one should say or feel. The thread is that he was missing and result is found safe but seems like he wasn't a victim... Or starting to seem like...

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - The parents of a missing Fort Cavazos soldier are breathing a sigh of relief after they found their son alive on Friday evening.

This all started when Cameron Chamberlain first reported her husband SPC Craig Chamberlain as missing on May 15.

Last Thursday, authorities confirmed that Cameron was found dead amid search efforts, but did not release her cause of death. Then just a day later, a group of civilians found the missing soldier.

His parents, Gorden and Virginia Chamberlain, say they found Craig with a few bruises on his body. They say from what they could tell though, he did not have any major injuries.

”He was alert and knew where he was,” Virginia said. “Physically he was good.”

On Friday evening Virginia was printing out missing person flyers when she received a call she had been waiting for.

”I told my husband to drop what he was doing, we’ll come back and get the papers,” Virginia said.

The call said that a reliable tip had come in about her son’s whereabouts. Sure enough, their son was at the undisclosed location in the Killeen area.

<snip>

Craig is currently at the Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Cavazos receiving medical evaluations.

This one is DOWNRIGHT strange. Clearly there is much to come/unknown to us at least with what is here so far.

So he goes missing likely of his own volition. She reports him missing. He continues to be missing and after he went missing she ODs. They find her and then find the missing man close to home.

Do I have it right?

Are we supposed to just fall in and think she OD'd because she couldn't handle the fact her husband left?

This one needs a lot of explanation...

Yep, and his parents clearly had issues with Cam being who she was, and being married to their son, it seems awfully convenient to me that he turns up safe and well after she turns up dead, during a search organised by his god fearing parents. That's two problems solved right there. There hasn't been action about Cam's passing in the parents statements at all, like she never existed.

Hmmm. Seems pretty obvious what the deal likely will be... Not sure it won't turn into a thread about her as a victim rather than him as a missing person to be worried about...

A Texas soldier who disappeared for 11 days this year — and was found one day after the announcement of his wife’s death — is not a person of interest in the case, military officials said.

In a news release, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division cleared Spc. Craig Chamberlain, 23, in the May death of Cam Chamberlain and said her cause and manner of death will be released after an autopsy is completed.

The statement, which was released Friday, added that because the investigation is active, no additional details will be released.

they need a better explanation than this. He was cleared and yet her manner and cause of death are still pending and are unknown so honestly how can ANYONE be cleared, short of a rock solid alibi. Not buying one word of it for the moment, this seemingly total b.s. or spin.

4 people arrested in connection with death of Ft. Cavazos soldier’s spouse

Four people are facing federal drug charges in connection with the death of Cameron Mann Chamberlain, the spouse of a soldier at Fort Cavazos. They are accused of being involved with fentanyl trafficking.

Chamberlain was married to Spc. Craig Chamberlain, who disappeared in March of this year. Mann asked for the public’s help to find him in May and he returned soon after her death.

Court documents show Copperas Cove Police officers worked with the Army Criminal Investigation Division to arrest 36-year-old Julio Bonilla-Tirado of Copperas Cove on September 14th. Gilberto Hernandez-Marin, Juan Cabral, and Adxel Romero-Flores were all arrested in Puerto Rico.

The four face charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute at least 400 grams of fentanyl resulting in death and unlawful communications. If convicted, each defendant faces a penalty of 20 years to life in prison.

A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Hmmm. I do not have it in me right now. At first with my eyesight I thought the name of the one guy with the name Hernandez-Marin said Hernandez-Mann. So it definitely not the time and another one haven't looked at in forever...

Didn't hub abscond...?
