The truck of 34 year-old Aaron Johnson was found last week on Dec. 1st, but Aaron himself is still missing. Both were reported missing since Oct. 11 when his wife, Amanda Thayer, an LCO tribal member, said Aaron was dropped off by his truck in the 6-Mile area of the LCO Reservation around 6 pm on Oct. 11 and no one has seen or heard from him since.

A large search was conducted by law enforcement on Monday, Dec. 7, in the Blue Hills area just inside Rusk County where his truck was found about a quarter-mile off the Blue Hills Fire Lane between Meadow Dam Road and Perch Lake Road on a logging trail.

The search team consisted of the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted by eight members of Sawyer County’s Search and Rescue team, two Sawyer County deputies and two LCO Police officers. Cadaver dogs were also employed in the search, but Aaron still remains missing.

Rusk County Sheriff Jeffrey Wallace is asking that anyone with information in the case or if anyone saw the truck parked on the logging trail from Oct. 11 to Dec. 2, to please contact Investigator Steve Gronski at 715-532-8504.

According to the Missing Person’s report, Aaron is 5'7" and weighs 220 lbs. He has blue eyes and dark blonde hair that he wears shaved. He has many tattoos on his head, neck, arms, back and stomach.

On Friday, Dec. 4, Amanda herself went to the area where the truck was found and walked further down the two trails that split at the spot where the truck was parked. She was accompanied by six volunteers. They turned up nothing, but according to a Facebook page set up by Amanda, #BringAaronHome (AJ Johsnon), Dirk Meyers said he and Bob Sander have been searching the area where the truck was found and that they had found what appeared to be his gloves.

Wisconsin authorities continue search for man last seen in 2020

A western Wisconsin man has been missing for five years, and authorities are continuing to ask the public for tips to help solve the case.

Aaron S. Johnson, of Birchwood, was last seen on Oct. 11, 2020. According to the Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Missing and Exploited Children and Adults, Johnson was dropped off at the intersection of Highway CC and Highway N in Sawyer County.

A witness saw someone who looked like Johnson walking in the Blue Hills area the next day. Officials shared the photo that the witness took.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the disappearance. They reported in December 2020 that Johnson's truck and several of his clothing items were found in the Perch Lake area of the Blue Hills.

KARE 11 reached out to the sheriff's office for any updates on the case. Sheriff Phil Grassmann said the case is still open, and "we have not received any leads or information for quite some time."

He looks muddy.

This is really confusing.

The Blue Hills Fire Lane and Meadow Dam Road are a long ways from the intersection of County CC and N. I mean not walking distance. Apparently he drove the truck as near the Fire Lane, etc. is where he ended up.

I'm not positive on this as it is very difficult to find a way to map it, I tried, but I know they reference two different counties which makes it harder too as county roads/counties means they could differ in each county but still exist.

The Blue Hills are a vast area, popular with some hunters. There are long stretches of dirt roads too, logging trails where you will encounter no one, no houses or cabins, no gas stations, no anything, however, with both sites if he was on or near county roads, he is not totally out in the boondocks, at that point anyhow.

Also confusing is why was he dropped off to begin with? Was he dropped at his truck or something and if so why? Was he out of gas or they parked it and rode together say the night before? I tried to see if there was a bar or gas station or anything at these intersections but again mapping it was difficult and I didn't succeed very well. Maybe someone better at it could give it a go.

He also was not dressed for October in WI. I don't care how nice the days might have been (I may look that up), the mornings and a good half day and the evenings would be cool. And by December and November, most definitely cooler yet. Was he picked up from home and then dropped off? I didn't note that it said? Boxers and a tank one wouldl think he'd intend to get to his truck (I'm assuming it was elsewhere and that was the reason for the ride) and come right home. Very odd.

They say they found his clothes but either way he was underdressed by far.

The Blue Hills are very scenic when the leaves change and a beautiful ride in the fall. You can drive through them wtihout too much trouble depending on how you go. I had a pretty scary long ride through there once on a dirt road. Not scary as to crime or animals or anything but because I did not know I was on an unending (seemed like) road with no civilization or gas station for tons of miles.

The Hills are not mountains by any means but they are some stretch of a number of miles. They touch on at least three counties. Both Rusk and Sawyer are very rural counties and not so populated, their biggest towns are not high populations either although in Sawyer the biggest town and area does draw a lot of Twin Cities and Chicago people who build "summer homes" etc. Sawyer has a large reservation and an Indian casino as well. However, it sounds as if his truck was found down the other way south some ways.

It was some time before his truck was found.

I can say this, if you got off on foot into the woods, you might never be found. Even taking an old logging road, it could be years.

Thanksgiving in 2020 was November 26th (I looked it up). That means deer hunting would have ended on November 29th. So the truck was found two days later. My guess is someone leaving the area late maybe having been at a cabin saw the truck there and worried some hunter had trouble if it was there after deer hunting. Just a guess. The trees would also have been bare by then and visibility better. Does anyone know differently, who found it and how? Maybe from the family's FB page?

Sadly, I'd say if he didn't unalive himself, he died of exposure. He was not dressed for the wilderness, for fishing, hiking, etc. So why was he there to begin with? He was walking at least at one point because the person got a pic of him and he refused their help saying he was fine. Odd. Confusing as he77.

October 11, 2020 was a Sunday. Was he out the night before and they left his truck? Again I don't understand the drop off which was not where his truck was found two months later.
