‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Could any of you read the replies? I don't have twitter so they didn't load for me.
Me either. Sometimes I can on other ones but not on this woman's account. Whole thing is odd. I can tell you though that no one was at their house at 9 this morning or even after as her tweet says. I've watched all of the ones I know of who are there in person. And nothing. Never heard the necklace thing from anyone else either.

This is all speculation IMO. Also saying the recipient cannot access it without an SSN - what if they aren't a US citizen? They wouldn't have a SSN. The funds could be going to an overseas account, for example.
I don't know but I think TMZ and Banfield are tired for sleazy moves and unethical, even dangerous reporting. TMZ did not get the last letter from the alleged kidnapper either and I'm glad. They must be doing anything they can to get news on this or report sh*t.

IF it's true and the family didn't pay, I wonder why AND does that mean they are moving towards an arrest. However, they could have paid it yesterday and it already have been moved out of the account no? OR another bitcoin address could have been given in the further emails that TMZ never got or saw.

Savanna said they'd pay so I seriously doubt the family has changed their mind on that unless they know who did this, they wouldn't mess around with mom's life if they said that. So I'm apt to think TMZ doesn't know sh*t. I also do not think the family would wait until the last hour and deadline to forward the money because what if something did not go through or went wrong? They'd get it done as early as they could. I'd think.

Nothing really new in it but some discussions about things I haven't heard discussed all that much. Not a lot in the case so far today, only thing I've found a bit interesting so far.

I agree with him that this is going to probably blow wide open pretty soon. I figure tonight or tomorrow something is going to break. If not before.

Entin said that the Circle K they were requesting video from is actuall like around the corner, one minute from Annie's home and not near Nancy's home by the way...

More that seems to indicate the SIL or wife or checking the truth of their statements...

Any of that work?
Yes. Thank you!

It was touching and heartbreaking but honestly there was no real hidden message in it imo. Says they are desperate and need everyone's help if you hear anything or know anything... I am not sure what the point of it is unless she felt a need OR they want a kidnapper to think that LE and them are no closer to finding someone.

Although it was heartfelt, I'd say it is a bit of a nothing burger as far as news or hints of anything...

Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram on Monday and shared a heartfelt message to her followers asking for help finding her mother, Nancy.

The TODAY co-host shared a few thoughts and offered thanks for the support she and her siblings had received over the last nine days.

“Thank you so much for all of the prayers and the love that we have felt,” Guthrie said.

“My sister and brother and I and our mom have felt this love, because we believe that somehow, somehow, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her, even in this moment and in this darkest place.”

“We believe our mom is still out there,” she added.

“We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock trying to bring her home, trying to find her.

“She was taken, and we don't know where. And we need your help,” she said.

"Please. bring her home. we need you. she needs you. all of you," Guthrie also captioned her post.

I don't believe anyone except the family and the FBI will know the payment details. The FBI would have checked out the recipient details already IMO.
