‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime​

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.


On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

There was a blue car that’s been parked in her garage. That looks like it.

Several Pima Country Sheriff's vehicles were spotted by Fox News cameras outside the home of Annie Guthrie late Friday night.

At least one of the vehicles was marked as as a Pima Country Forensic Truck.

The deputies showed up at the house amid a flurry of activity at Nancy Guthrie's home — just a few miles away.

Yeah.
This honestly is giving me reminders of the search for the Titan submersible. "Oh no they've only got so many hours of oxygen left." "Oh we think we heard a banging noise they could still be alive." .... They knew the whole damn time that thing imploded. They heard it happen. That whole search was a media spectacle.
This is a game. And not a good one. I'm not sure if it's to keep the suspects distracted and with a false sense of security, or for another reason. But I think it's very unlikely she's alive. (Hopefully wrong.)

That supposedly wasn't the same guy, that was yet someone else who said to pay by bitcoin, it wasn't the "original" ransom note sender who said to pay by bitcoin also who they quickly determined to be a fraud.

TBH I don't think we can believe much they have been saying in the press. This has been such a public incident and all the press have just leapt onto it. The complete opposite of other kidnappings in the past.

According to the neighbor, it looked like she'd recently had some work done on her roof and she told the FBI.

So it appears that the FBI was looking for evidence into who did the work.

I heard a newscaster say that yesterday too and that's not what was said as I recall, not that she "would" die but that she "could" if she didn't have her medication, that it "could" be fatal. That's a LOT different than "would die".

I don't think that's anything earth shattering and doesn't explain the removal of a camera or whatever it was on the roof either. Good chance if she had work done, the family would have known it and told investigators too. Sheriff has said multiple times that they are checking with all service people and things like that if she'd had any work done and so on. I seriously doubt she called and they rushed a ton of people right out there over her tip. Imo.

Yeah, I used to like Ashleigh Banfied. Now I'm disgusted with her.

She has pizzed me off many a time these past few years on coverage on some cases. I was just getting to deciding I MIGHT like her when here she goes again, the worst thing yet!! I can't even recall the other cases she's ticked me off on any longer, but there's quite a few.

I'm done with her. I've left some not nice comments under a few of her videos recently. I'm hardly alone in doing that either and every chat has people going on about how vile she is. And TMZ too.
