Haleigh was last known to be sleeping in her family's trailer in the 200 block of Green Lane in the area of Hermit's Cove in Satsuma, Florida, late in the evening on February 9, 2009. She went to bed at 8:00 p.m. Her father's live-in girlfriend of five months, Misty Janette Croslin (sometimes identified in the media by her later married name, Misty Cummings), went to sleep in the same room at 10:00 p.m. Haleigh's three-year-old brother was also sleeping in that room.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Lemyles Cummings, finished working second shift and arrived home sometime after 3:00 a.m. on February 10. Misty told him she'd just discovered Haleigh was missing from her bed. The rear door to the trailer was several inches ajar and the screen door had been propped open with a cinder block. Ronald and Misty called 911 at 3:37 a.m. to report Haleigh's disappearance.

The police found no sign of forced entry to the trailer, but they are uncertain whether the back door was locked. Ronald and Misty have insisted that it was, and Ronald maintains the trailer was broken into.

Haleigh's younger brother told investigators that a man dressed in black had come to their home that night and taken his sister. Authorities aren't sure how much credence to give to his story, given his age. An extensive search of the area turned up no sign of Haleigh. Her father stated she wouldn't have left home by herself at night, as she is afraid of the dark.

In October 2009, six months into the marriage, Ronald filed for divorce. He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason, mainly the stress caused by Haleigh's disappearance and the subsequent police investigation and media attention. The divorce became final within days; since Ronald and Misty had only been married a short time and they didn't share any property or have any children together, there was little to discuss.

Police repeatedly questioned Misty about Haleigh's disappearance and looked into the possibility that she wasn't in fact at home when the child disappeared. Misty describes herself as a devoted caregiver to Haleigh and her brother and said she had been home the entire night and hadn't left the children alone.

Investigators have been publicly skeptical of Misty's story, stating she failed four polygraphs and one voice stress test, and changed her story multiple times; they described her accounts as "consistently inconsistent."

Ronald Cummings seeks to have Christmas Day 2022 charges dismissed in Putnam

Ronald Cummings, the father of missing and presumed dead Haleigh Cummings, appeared in Putnam County Circuit Court for a pretrial hearing Thursday in his latest arrest on Christmas Day 2022.

He had been released from prison about two months prior after serving time on separate drug charges.

The 40-year-old's newest charges were amended on Nov. 9 to battery on a law enforcement officer, trafficking phenethylamines (10 to 200 grams), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, resisting an officer with violence, depriving an officer of means of protection or communication and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the Putnam County court records.

In the latest case, Cummings' attorney Terry Shoemaker filed a motion on Dec. 23 to dismiss the charges of trafficking in phenethylamines and depriving an officer of means of protection or communication.

Link requires a sign up or payment to read at least on my end.

It doesn't matter to me though regardless of these newer charges because in this case imo he and his little gf are responsible for the murder and cover up regarding this child and should be in prison for life to begin with.

I know some will disagree with me. Not saying it can be proven or tried successfully but then it has never been attempted either... And we don't know all LE knows.

RIP Haliegh, not sure you will ever see justice on earth but there will be higher justice.

What a guy. Apparently prison did nothing to teach him any lesson. A stellar example for a dad, one with a missing child on top of it. Not.

‘We do not forget:’ 15 years since Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance in Putnam County

Saturday marks 15 years since an AMBER Alert was issued for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, who disappeared from her Satsuma home in Putnam County.

Haleigh’s disappearance garnered national attention, but she has never been found.

Her case remains one of Florida’s seven unsolved AMBER Alerts.

Haleigh would be 20 years old now.

Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida is offering a reward of $15,000 for help finding Haleigh.

America's Lost Children: 37 Active AMBER Alerts Still Haunt Families

The first AMBER Alert was issued in 1996. The notification, which stands for America's Missing Broadcast Emergency Response, has recovered at least 1,074 abducted children around the country.

Throughout the years, however, not all missing children are found and there are still 37 active alerts.

"Obviously we would want ever case of a missing child to be resolved and for the child to be recovered alive," Alan Nanavaty, executive director of special programs the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children missing children division, told Newsweek.

The alerts serve as just one tool to help find missing children. Last year alone, Nanavaty said her organization had 20,000 children missing reported to the organization. Around 90% of those children were found.

"Since we've been tracking AMBER Alerts, since early 2005 timeframe, 99% of the children have been recovered," Nanavaty said. "It's not a good or bad thing. It's just what it is, and law enforcement continues to work on the cases."

"I think in terms of the AMBER Alert being used or activated at this point on these cases, the value diminishes over time. However, there are still things that can be done," Nanavaty said. "The most important part is locating that child as quickly as possible and bringing them home safely."

2009 Amber Alerts

Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home in Florida. She went missing from her bed. Haleigh's three-year-old brother and their father's girlfriend (who later married him) were in the room as well.

When Haleigh's father came come from working a second shift, his girlfriend told him she just discovered Haleigh was missing from her bed. The rear door to the trailer was slightly ajar.

Police found no signs of forced entry. Haleigh's brother told investigators that a man dressed in black had come to their home.

Haven't watched it yet but the lead in is step mom has changed her story to she saw what happened...

Only a third of the way in and finding it worth it. I'll give Nancy this, she's not afraid to all something out or that Misty was a liar.

I have NEVER thought this to be an abduction, disappearance, etc.

Everyone I know of and look at chat, etc. knows she is guilty and always has. Imo.

This is very good. She brings up coverage from at the time but also has LE on that was on it at the time with them talking currently, etc.

I have been back and forth on Nancy over the years but lately, she's imo doing some great coverage.

Now we are getting into the other story. This IS NEW right? Now she knows who took her, her and son cowered and hid under the covers when hearing her struggle with abductors and the guys were there to take a machine gun. Is this new or is Nancy doing a replay of sh*t from years ago? Either way, it is a good show. Been awhile since I've looked back at all. I'm thinking it is talking of some back when but it is a new and current show...

Hearing from LE now that was on the case back at the time is really interesting to listen to. No holds barred almost that she did this.

Just finished and I think I was suckered in about this being new but I do not care because it was REALLY, REALLY good imo.

Nancy was in the middle maybe with me and she just raised 4 points easily. Meaning my opinion of her. A good watch. IMHO.

St. Johns County sheriff brings attention to unsolved HaLeigh Cummings case

The St. Johns County sheriff brought attention to a 15-year-old case that rocked the Putnam County community.

Sheriff Hardwick recently appeared on Nancy Grace’s podcast “Crime Stories” to talk about the investigation into the disappearance of 5-year-old HaLeigh Cummings.

“It’s one of those cases that will just never go away because it was never solved. And it’s almost like a failure to myself professionally and personally, that we never recovered a 5-year-old girl. We never completed the case, per see,” Hardwick said.

Hardwick said Croslin’s account would include new or inconsistent information each time they talked to her like the fact that her brother Hank and her cousin Joey Overstreet were at the house that night and that a machine gun was in the house for hunting purposes.

Hardwick said at one point, detectives drove Croslin around for every possible lead.

“The dive teams from the agencies that actually went to the boat ramp, they were finding alligator fingernails and teeth in the water. That’s how hard these units were looking for her. Next, she’d get back in the car, I don’t think this is the place. I mean, so just one of those things we would do everything in our power, our ability, our resourcing, to bring HaLeigh home, but it was just dealing with a person that was mentally unstable and sometimes smarter than us,” Hardwick said.

HaLeigh would be 20 years old today, and a lot of questions remain unanswered about her disappearance.

“We were contacted by the Nancy Grace production company and producers,” Hardwick said. “I will not stop talking about this case. Of course, it’s in the hands of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Gator DeLoach; they’re a phenomenal team over there. But there’s only so much you can do when the leads dry up, per se. So anytime we get a chance to mention this on any media stage, and anybody that wants to listen to us, you never know that one person maybe watch the news going you know what, ‘I remember something now that came to me’ or maybe that person has that guilty conscience and says, ‘I gotta get off my chest.’”

Hardwick said he held out hope that she was still alive.

“To this day, we just, we’re always hoping because of other cases across America where children have actually turned up as adults. And I will say healthy, but alive probably is the correct response,” Hardwick said. “My thing is this with this case, I just would love to close up my professional career, whenever that ends, and say the Haley Cummings case was solved.”

Yes and her show was a very good watch. Imo.

And good for him for saying he will go on any media platform to tell people, maybe someone, some day, etc. To say it to anyone who will listen.

There were a few LE on her show if I recall that worked the case. It was good.

I don't know about the mentally unstable remark but interesting how he said she was sometimes smarter than them.

Of course there's not enough evidence BUT my opinion in this case has been fully formed for a long time. I never go to 100 percent as I'm not going to do that, but it's as high as I go.

I don't know that I buy the thing that he married her because he thought she'd trust him more and tell him the truth then. That one was a bit much for me. And we judge a lot of women who let a new man or even one they've known for some time around their kids and look who he chose here. Just saying... BUT my eyes are are on her so there's that.

She was young and jealous of he77 of this little girl, dad's girl. NOT an uncommon thing at that age. I could go on but I already probably overdid with one very long post tonight. What I would go on with is living in a trailer, with a man who was gone to work supporting them all, and more, and she's stuck home with the kids.

One thing this show did and he did in the article you posted, the sheriff, is point OUT how many various stories and ways she led them and how the stories always changed, etc.

Where is this witch today? Maybe I know that but just not recalling, not like it's the most active case until now some good show on it, etc.

Like I said Nancy went up a lot of points with me on this one. She's really lately had some good ones.
