An indictment said the Wests murdered their adoptive children between Sept. 1, 2020 and Sept. 11, 2020. Both defendants also “induced a minor to commit or assist in the commission of the crime,” the indictment said, while also taking “advantage of a position of trust or confidence to commit the offense.”

Another allegation in the indictment said defendants “threatened witnesses, unlawfully prevented or dissuaded witnesses from testifying, suborned perjury, or in any way illegally interfered with the judicial process.”

A gag order on this case prevents attorneys from speaking.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Department of Human Services won’t release reports pertaining to California City boys Orrin and Orson West after prosecutors said their release could jeopardize criminal proceedings against the boys’ adoptive parents.

DHS senior paralegal Etta Sharp late Wednesday afternoon provided two one-page forms sent to the state Department of Social Services after law enforcement determined the boys died from abuse but said no further information would be released. The forms — one issued for each child — were completed July 12 and say the date of the boys’ deaths is unknown.

“Our agency received a communication (from the DA’s office) that indicated release of any emergency response referral information, any cross reports completed by the agency, risk and safety assessments, copies of any police reports, or any description of the services provided would jeopardize an ongoing criminal proceeding,” Sharp wrote.

<snip>
Earlier Wednesday, a Kern County judge found that reports generated from any prior contacts the Wests had with Child Protective Services were not subject to a gag order issued in the case.

<snip>
Among the charges against the Wests is an allegation they induced a minor to assist in committing a crime, suggesting at least one of the Wests’ other children witnessed what happened and will be called to testify. Prosecutors have not said how the boys died, but said they were killed three months before they were reported missing.

Hmmm. This agency needs to be called out and their dirty laundry aired at some point. I for one am NOT going to forget that or shut up about it.

Rules or laws need to change unless this agency bent them as there is no WAY these two should have been able to adopt these boys or allowed as many children as they had, wth no apparent resources, or decent roof over how many heads nor any other qualifications to do so as far as we have seen.

It's all a "for profit" thing both for the State and the "parents" who take them in these days and that is just plain dangerous stupidity to do it that way.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — There will be no closure at the end of the trial of Trezell and Jacqueline West, defense attorney Timothy Hennessy told potential jurors.

He told them to forget about a storybook ending. Not all questions will be answered.

The bottom line, he said, is whatever happened to Orrin and Orson West — the adopted children of Trezell and Jacqueline — is a tragedy. The boys have been missing more than two years and the prosecution alleges they were killed by their adoptive parents.

Defense saying whatever happened. Yeah, ask your clients what they did with their bodies. Just sayin'..

Lots of big trials about to start. This one/West boys, Gannon Stauch's, and JJ & Tylee's. Naming the victims rather than the perps as it is for justice for them but Trezell and Jacqueline West, Letecia Stauch and Lori Vallow hopefully in fairly short order will all be in prison for the rest of their natural lives.

And we are just coming off of convictions in Murdaugh and Anderson, also big trials, oh and Aidan Fucci, no trial but pled and was sentenced.

Busy spring trial wise. I'm sure I am missing some.

This case we really don't know what they have for evidence to my knowledge as it has been very quiet. Hoping they put them away for life with a solid case.

Several big trial start next week. Stach, Vallow, this one...

Key details came to light Tuesday in the case of two missing California City toddlers as a prosecutor said in opening arguments that one of the toddlers died in Bakersfield and the other was killed after living for barely four days in eastern Kern County.

Chief Trial Deputy Eric Smith said Tuesday building the prosecution’s case hinges on the Wests’ other children divulging information about their brothers dying. One child said Orrin died September 2020 in Bakersfield — the adoptive parents lived in the city before moving to eastern Kern — after turning a pale color and vomiting, according to Smith.

The same child heard a thud one September 2020 night in California City in Orrin’s room, then never saw Orrin again, Smith said. The Wests have two biological children and two adopted children aside from Orrin and Orson.

<snip>
Multiple people reported never having seen either child with the Wests — even Jacqueline West’s own mother had never heard of Orrin and Orson, Smith added.

Defense attorney Hennessy said improper techniques were practiced when questioning children, and that the same was true when California City police officers interviewed Jacqueline West. He showed a picture for jurors to see of a police officer touching Jacqueline’s thigh.

Torres Stallings probed what may have appeared to be numerous missteps by California City police officers on Dec. 21, 2020, when they went to the home of Trezell and Jacqueline West as part of an initial investigation into the report of missing children.

It never crossed my mind that the boys may have been killed in separate cities. How were they planning on covering the first murder, pray tell?

So here comes some info we didn't know. It could be guessed one or more of the other children gave info as one of the charges is something like involving a child in the crime or cover up. So they died days apart... This also means they could have well been disposed of of course at different times and in different places or the same place at different times...

These two should NEVER have had six kids or been allowed to. They didn't even have from what we know an income or more than a small apartment to take on so many in addition to their own. A pure case is my guess of adopting and fostering for profit while NOT taking care of the kids whatsoever.

It sounds like there may be some evidence, we really hadn't heard yet, but also sounds like some is dependent on children as to testimony and facts.

Dead children and yet her attorney is worried that a deputy touched J's thigh probably through clothing. Oh my that made her say something or what?

I find the remark that her mother had no idea Orrin and Orson existed very interesting. There was so much talk and gossip during this case back when first reported that hard to separate it but isn't it her mother who lived near them or in the same complex in Bakersfield who also had foster children, etc. in an apartment? I can't swear to this but it seems like it... Can't verify so I'll leave it at that.

I don’t remember hearing much about the mother at all. I just remember hearing a lot of angst coming from the boys’ bio family.

Oh yeah, both mothers. People camped outside his parents' place AND harassed them over the top actually.

And her mother, I'd swear, less was heard about but many were overboard finding things out and I'm pretty sure she was in the same apartment complex or near and SHE also was fostering, etc. and this maybe came from a neighbor in the complex or something. One of them ALSO (a mother of one of the adults charged here) also supposedly worked for DCF there which of course led to a lot of speculation about how these kids got placed etc.

This is also the case where Trezell's uncle I think it is was/is the head of the N DOUBLE A CP. And he actually said a thing or two when the kids were being looked for (long before charges) about their innocence, I think, etc. LOTS of talk of that too.

Paragraph two to three of mine come from average people/amateur sleuths, much of it, investigating or talking to people, etc. and much rumor.

CA gets a LOT of money for adopting children out per the b.s. way that was put in place years ago...

With sharp questions about information missing from a key police report, a defense attorney sowed doubt Thursday about a California City police officer’s investigation of the December 2020 disappearance of two toddlers.

Attorney Alekxia Torres Stallings, representing the toddlers’ adoptive mother, Jacqueline West, worked to poke holes in California City Police Officer Brian Hansen’s police report documenting his investigation on Dec. 21, 2020, the day West and her husband, Trezell West, reported that Orrin West, 4, and his brother Orson, 3, were missing.

Hansen testified previously that he drove around the Wests’ neighborhood in California City on Dec. 21, 2020 to see if other residences had video cameras affixed to their houses. This footage could help to corroborate Trezell West’s statements about relating to actions taken after the boys went missing.

Torres Stallings asked Hansen about a home on Harvard Street that Hansen testified he visited to watch footage under direct examination by Prosecutor Eric Smith. Hansen said he never divulged this information raised in his prior testimony, including on March 9.

Hansen had maintained there were two houses with video cameras to review, according to testimony. But, Hansen testified, there are actually three videos.

“So were you lying to court on March 9, 2023 or are you lying to the jury now?” Torres Stallings asked.

“Neither,” Hansen responded.
