ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

WHAT??!!!!

My first thought was did someone set something extremely heavy on the lid A case of pop, a 50 pound bag of dog food, etc.? My second thought was my mon has a newer machine where the lid locks unless you cancel the load/start, at least from the outside, not sure of inside, who would think of needing to get out from inside for goodness sakes?

My thought at this moment quickly after those thoughts is no way is this NOT foul play/a crime. He is seven and if even close to a normal or even shorter height/size, I just can't see it. And you don't start a machine without putting in clothes and detergent. And it doesn't seem to be a game of hide and seek with another child as he was the only child in the home nor then of horseplay of two children... On the other hand, are the parents so dumb they called him in missing while expecting him to go unfound in the washer on a search OR thought investigators would believe such a scenario was an accident if they did find him?

This defies anything I can think of that makes sense where it would be accidental....
It says it wasn't revealed if there was water in the washer or if the lid was down.

Wow. Busted because you didn't get a permit. But what difference would that make. The contractor would be the one who would know if there was any danger, I would think.
The difference would be that the job would have a much better chance to have been installed correctly.

And even positional can be put there by someone. I hope I'm wrong but I'd lean towards that. Hope it isn't the case though.
I think that's it actually. Of course someone can do that. That's one reason it's so suspicious. And say he must have gotten in there himself because he had injuries. IMO That's what I think is going to be the story. Lie.

I thought you didn't see that. Sorry. No it doesn't and I knew that's what you were saying. I can't think of any circumstance that this would happen. They fixed the being stuck in the trunk and fridge issues thankfully, But I never heard of a death from this.
No need to be sorry, I get it. I did see it all, just can't picture a viable accident scenario very easily. I too thought of trunk, freezer, frig, etc. Never heard of this and it isn't some small two year old. 7 years old. I allow for autism and intentionally hiding, etc. but still, I just can't picture entirely accidental. I mean I guess it could be and if so, then I will be glad I am wrong but if so, it would be a first I ever heard of.

I can't see an accident. The time is interesting. Really early. I bet it was to match the hours he would have been deceased.
Yep if nothing else, I am going to guess the timeline won't add up or he wasn't being watched, checked on, kept an eye on... I'm also guessing LE already has a pretty good idea whether accidental or not but of course have to do cause of death and such and not say anything...

IMO. If you're going to lie, Don't make it stupid. You're a compulsive liar I see. But you suck at it. Gets them caught though.

Their brains were on the spin cycle alot. Murdering morons IMO. The more I think about it, The more I think they're guilty. I just can't rationalize it no matter what.
I really can't either. That's not to say there might not be some scenario I am not thinking of but at MINIMUM they maybe stuck him in there and didn't "intend" for him to die or some such...

I guess there IS the possibility only one foster parent did it or knew and the other was clueless and reported him missing but it seems pretty unlikely too...

Early days yet. I'm sure we will be hearing more...

Yeah. Good point. Could've been put in there alive as punishment and died. If he was killed by abuse, Sadly It wasn't the first instance of abuse. But probably several instances since 2019. IF he was abused.

Yep at minimum I am thinking he was contained in there, put in there so they could have quiet and deal with no child. It was in the garage wasn't it I believe...?

Here is the other thing, even with a locking top load, my mom's only locks once it is started. The lid is not locked if NOT started. The child didn't get in there and then start it.
